Nice. The old Trådfri plugs don't have any sensors.

[FIXED] Is it possible to tell Jellyfin to search also the original title?

Hello! I have a problem: sometimes I instinctively refer to a movie by the English name (for example, Star Wars), but if I search for it in jellyfin it is not found, as the italian translated name is "Guerre Stellari". I'd like to be able to search for it with both the original name and the translated name. The original name is...

But the metadata is handy on so many levels.

I agree with OP, there needs to be an option to search both original title, translated title and maybe even descriptions.

A good zigbee repeater light switch?

I have been using the Kasa (TP-Link) branded smart switches around my house, but now that I have a few third reality zigbee sensors for my doors and so on, I am seeing the value of using more outlets/switches that act as zigbee repeaters. Do any of you have pretty reasonable (and cheapish) smart light switches or outlets I can...

I have been pretty lucky with the Aqara plugs. I have like 8-10 of them at this point and they work really well with homeassistant, giving energy readings and such.

You mean like a blog just for internal use?

Maybe SilverBullet can be of use here.

Using HA to start my work laptop

No major question here, just thought you might find this interesting. It's an example of the kind of (off-the-wall) things you can do with HA that aren't immediately obvious. When I was starting out with HA, I enjoyed reading these examples, because it gave me ideas for my own setup. And, I wrote many automations that should...

Very nice idea! I didn't know there was a wake on lan integration. I should try that for my desktop. :)

I've used OpenCart before. It's a bit sluggish, but gets the job done.

All software has glitches and any alternative will introduce a learning curve since they are all different from what she is used to.

So I don't really have an answer.

What's your server wattage?

I'm in the process of wiring a home before moving in and getting excited about running 10g from my server to the computer. Then I see 25g gear isn't that much more expensive so I might was well run at least one fiber line. But what kind of three node ceph monster will it take to make use of any of this bandwidth (plus run all my...

Mine is about 8W on average.

It's an Odroid H3 that runs Nextcloud, Jellyfin, AudiobookShelf, a bunch of websites and Home Assistant.

It has 2x Sata SSD's connected.

This setup is not high speed at all, so it's not what you asked about. I just answered the headline question. ;)

If any air ventilation fan turns on in the house it uses at least 3x that power, so I don't calculate the price on my servers power draw as it almost not noticable.

I use TP Link's TAPO C310 for outdoors and a C200 indoors. They are Wifi or PoE and have a custom component for Home Assistant that works pretty well.

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

Reolink cameras are twice the price of the Tapo ones in my area....

Was your phone also on your tailscale network while you tried to access it?
If a device is on a tailscale network you need to be on the same tailscale network to be able to connect to it. Which likely means you need to add your phone to your tailscale network before the apps will access the server.

Fedora does not have proper h264/h265 encoding/decoding by default, since they are non-free codecs. That could be the issue.

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

A solution would be to place these movies in a seperate Library and only give your mother access to that library, so it does not show up for you other users.

Strit ,
@Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

Nextcloud has a few options for something like this. PhoneTrack I think the app is called. You install the app on the phone and then connect it with a nextcloud server with the PhoneTrack app installed and setup. Then it would send all that information to your nextcloud instance. I don't know if you can stop the traffic to googles servers though.

    The DNS record for the domain/subdomain needs to be enabled for it before SSL can be applied with Traefik. If it doesn't resolve, the dns challenge can't complete. Does regular http connect to it?

    https://forum.syncthing.net/t/sharing-folder-with-others/14024/2

    Syncthing is not a public sharing tool, it’s for your own devices. Perhaps you are trying to fit it to a scenario it’s not made for.

    If I'm not doing anything fancy and just use it for basic reverse proxy stuff for my docker containers, would I need to change stuff in the configs? Most of the stuff mentioned in the migration guide is about tls.caOptional stuff, which I don't believe I use.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    Cool. I don't have any swarm related config stuff.

    True, but matrix does have the advantage of federated login, while Mattermost is 1 login per server. So I just wanted to add the information. Sure it might be overkill for you, but I'd wager most of the users here on Lemmy already have a Matrix account, so it would be much easier for them.

    I did not mean to say that Matrix is better than Mattermost. They serve different needs.

    This new release does seem to solve some long standing issues people have had with nextcloud for a while. Like great performance improvements and Federated Chat with Nextcloud Talk.

    And improving Circles and renaming it to Teams seems like it's only gonna be really useful for Businesses. But I do hope that some smaller organizations can get some use out of it.

    All in all, I think this release is great, if what they said in the announcement is true. I don't care much for all the AI additions, but I understand why they are doing it.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    A lot of people use them for log files when troubleshooting within a support channel of some sort.

    what will be my next server operating system (Fedora Server, Fedora CoreOS, NixOS), your experience and opinion

    I want to reset my server soon and I'm toying with the idea of using a different operating system. I am currently using Ubuntu Server LTS. However, I have been toying with the idea of using Fedora Server (I use Fedora on my laptop and made good experiences with it) or even Fedora CoreOS. I also recently installed NixOS on my...

    I'm probably the odd one out, but my home server is running Arch Linux. And it's been really smooth. I do weekly maintenance in the form of updates and cleanup and it's been reliable since I set it up a couple of years ago.

    Have you set up docker stuff before?

    What's the real world connection speed from your residential IP to your Server?

    I'm using contabo and the VPS I got is advertised as 1 Gigabit. When I do a speedtest or use iperf3 to connect to public servers I get pretty close to 1 Gigabit. But from my residential IP the speed drops down to 100-250 Mbit/s. My home internet connection can handle 500 Mbit just fine....

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    My server is on my LAN, so I get full Gigabit connection.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    Likely because it's mainly written in PHP and the default database is SQLite, which is not great for large deployments.

    But I use Nextcloud daily on a low end machine and I don't think it's that bad.

    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    I don't know any lightweight options, but as VS-Code was suggested, I'd like to suggest Hedgedoc too.

    Silverbullet looks pretty easy to set up. Can you change the font and such it uses?

    Strit ,

    Same here. I have a few static sites setup to just be served via nginx.

    I think most wifi routers segregate the two networks, so they can't see devices on eachothers network.

    Someone will surely correct me if I'm wrong in this.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    I think the main benefit is that Guests devices on your network can't find and exploit your own devices.

    How quick and useful is the interface compared to the regular Jellyfin app when playing music?
    I currently use the regular client, since I already have it installed for video content.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    Okay. I can already do that in the normal client app. But this client looks really nice and I'm glad it's a thing. :)

    This is also what I use. It ticks all of OPs boxes, but it might be overkill if you just want notes.

    There are Calendar, Time and Time Pattern triggers for automations. See if they fit.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    Set up the regular Nextcloud install, instead of the AIO. The AIO is not required for any of the things you need, so you end up with lots of stuff you are not gonna touch.

    I use Nextcloud with:

    • Calendar
    • Contacts
    • Cookbook
    • Notes
    • Tasks
    • Polls

    Tasks can work together with the Tasks.org Android client and there are seperate apps for Notes and Cookbook, while Calendar and Contacts can integrate with your mobile apps via DavX5 using CalDav.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    Mine is around 10W average.

    It runs:

    • Websites
    • my blog
    • Jellyfin
    • Home assistant
    • Nextcloud

    And a few other things.

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    If you just need an online office suite, you can go for Collabora Office. It has some nice integrations, collaborative editing etc. Not sure about an iPad app...

    Strit ,
    @Strit@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show avatar

    That's cool.

    I might give this a try on my Plasma 6 desktop when the time comes.
