Marvel writing already could've been done by AI

TrickDacy ,

I hate to be that guy, but not always exactly this. I have relatives that were born dirt poor but are now rich. You can definitely say they exploited people to get that way but the birth lottery gave them nothing financially

TrickDacy ,

I mean, I consider having 13 cars and 3 houses rich. But yeah it's a relative term

TrickDacy ,

Which many other people including myself had and yet I'm not rich

TrickDacy ,

My point is that oversimplification and being incorrect matters.

TrickDacy ,

You are dumb I agree. Because that's what it takes to make up stories about other people's lives to make yourself feel better.

These were people that literally grew up without indoor plumbing or electricity for years, in a community where owning a car meant you were rich. They were sharecroppers so they owned nothing and slaved away to make rich people money.

But sure they weren't dirt poor because some dickhead on the Internet wanted it to not be true so they could keep generalizing people different than them as all the same.

TrickDacy ,

You know nothing. I'm describing my great uncle, so I would have no reason to lie. No one else in the family is what you would call rich. I'm simply providing a factual counterexample because generalizing is the surest way to not understand nuance

TrickDacy ,

Really? I kept getting the feeling they were being sarcastic so I stopped reading

Noonono see apple not bad all times

I doubt you use their products or will be affected by them being altered in any way

I use a MacBook pro daily but even if I didn't major lawsuits against monopolies affect me and everyone else

TrickDacy ,

And yet here we are, years in, Lemmy still growing

TrickDacy ,

It definitely makes sense to anyone with the ability to see past their nose. I wish companies like Comcast and Verizon could see it.

TrickDacy ,

I mean, in some situations those two I mentioned are but I've been in the position to easily switch service to another company and that doesn't change their behavior at all.

TrickDacy ,

They 100% have been having that conversation since the 50s if not earlier

TrickDacy ,

Fuck TikTok and fuck this post. To be clear, I didn't click the shitty ass link

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone (lemmy.world)

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

TrickDacy ,

I checked my pixel 7a bought from Google directly and I also don't have this app

Threads is automatically hiding comments that mention Pixelfed (mastodon.social)

For anyone wondering if Threads and Facebook at large will be a fine neighbor in the space and compatible with other apps/services in the fediverse: they’re already automatically hiding comments that mention Pixelfed https://mastodon.social/@dansup/112126250737482807

TrickDacy ,

Yeah I mean who could've seen something like this coming?

TrickDacy ,

Huh, weird that when I was there, there were literally thousands of cars. Probably just hallucinated it

TrickDacy ,

For years I've somehow missed this. Cars driving on nearly every street and somehow that "car-free", yeah makes perfect sense.

TrickDacy ,

Yeah I don't understand that at all. I thought car free meant a place, usually a part of town, where cars are not allowed. Those places exist. So to call places nothing like that "car free" seems pretty useless imo

TrickDacy ,

I suspect you're referring to the use of the term when applied to a person. It makes much more sense to me to say "I'm car free" even if I own a car if I don't drive it regularly. I mean, still not accurate, but makes more sense.

Main thing to remember is only one group matters. And it's whichever group I'm not in.

    TrickDacy ,

I tried it for 2 years. After having a lot of weird issues I finally upgraded to an AMD card and so many of those issues went away. Firstly I can install updates without worrying about breaking games or random graphical things. AMD has been way more solid.

    TrickDacy ,

Well I tried it for home Internet and it was mostly fine but was a little less reliable than wired. I think reliability is important.

    TrickDacy ,

    Yeah, same

    TrickDacy ,

I've no idea. I've made probably 50 jokes about "the ghost of Steve Jobs" in the last decade

    TrickDacy ,

So considering most everyone who thinks Linux is too hard is going off the state of Linux 10 years ago or longer, I cannot agree with you. "You can possibly have an issue" is not something that even Microsoft's huge budget can save them from.

    TrickDacy ,

It seems as though recently any joke that somehow could be construed as involving gayness became "homophobic" to a certain crowd. Nothing in this image says butt sex is bad. Is it homophobic to simply imply the obvious truth that submission in sex is a real thing?

    TrickDacy ,

    They are computers. So yes.

    TrickDacy ,

That sucks. Yeah, there's a million combinations of hardware out there. I on the other hand installed linux on two pretty ancient laptops and revived them from being too slow to even use with windows, and the builtin web cam worked perfectly on both. /shrug

No one is saying Linux has no challenges, just that the image of it that most people have is outdated. I've had issues on windows with some extremely stupid hardware issues myself. Can't pretend it's perfect either.

    TrickDacy ,

The comment I made originally though doesn't imply that Linux is anywhere near the most supported. I'm just saying, in like 90% of cases someone who could install and use Windows could do the same with Linux, and many would even prefer it.

You found an example of Linux being a pain, dude I could talk all day about Windows doing the same. The last time I tried to give Windows a chance as a dev machine -- WSL would be broken literally every couple of days. It's a joke of a broken system especially in light of how solid people think it is.

    TrickDacy ,

It's on you if you read all that into that image.

    TrickDacy ,

    Exactly.

    TrickDacy ,

So if one has boobs would it be hateful toward straight people? It's actually just as simple as using the word "fucking" as a verb to imply hurting or taking advantage of another person. It was then made into graphical format. This requires a leap to see anything in it besides that.

Do you get mad every time you hear "you fucked me!"?

Other than someone being a whiner about the word fuck, I've never ever heard of this being stretched into some sort of bigotry. Because it absolutely isn't.

    TrickDacy ,

    WSL works fine

No, it doesn't. You've said my experience is invalid so no more engagement can happen on my side.

    TrickDacy ,

Have you used Docker on WSL? Seems like a pretty common use-case.

If your experience were commonplace, nobody would use it.

I think only specific classes of developers actually do use it. In the circles I'm a part of, I'm the only person who ever talked about trying Docker on WSL. Most devs I've ever met almost cannot stop themselves from saying "eww" if you even mention windows.

    TrickDacy ,

    Well said.

    TrickDacy ,

So, here's the thing about language though... It changes, all the time. The word fuck itself used to mean "to hit/strike". Do we then say that it's always invoking violence if used in a sexual way? Almost never, really, but yes in this meme's case that much older connotation is somewhat being referenced (though almost no one thinks about that consciously, therefore that meaning simply isn't there in many folk's minds).

But the word fuck is used in so many different ways there literally are books and documentaries on that single word. Most of the uses have nothing to do with violence. Most are probably not even sexual.

If I said "that woman sucks!" Am I accusing her of being a fellating hussy? Almost never would that be close to how that phrase is used. But that's almost certainly what it would've meant originally.

The word cunt is another example. No one calls another person a cunt to say "you are a vulva and that is bad". It means a variety of things regionally but almost never anything about genitals these days.

This conversation reminds me of my mom lecturing me about calling my brother a son of a bitch (I had literally no idea what it meant and was like 8). She told me I was calling her a female dog. No, Mom, not only did I not know what I was actually saying, it hasn't meant that for a very long time.

    TrickDacy ,

Ideas represented graphically aren't typically meant to be taken literally. They could've written "they are fuckin ya" but that would not be funny. Nor would it have fit the format of the meme.

Which it actually was chuckle worthy despite this thread.

    TrickDacy ,

Or alternatively I could stand up for semantic shift's existence. You literally told me that you were convinced of this paranoid thought by someone else. So not really an organic lived experience. The thread in general seems to agree that you are reaching. That fact is not offensive either, actually

    TrickDacy ,

No offense but you aren't my queer friend. And besides, both things can be true. This expression can strike someone as wrong and it can also be a part of a semantic shift that other people see differently.

    TrickDacy ,

A work of pure ignorance, this comment 👨‍🍳😘
