Edit: Jesus Christ, people. If you buy a $150 Thinkpad made by slave labor instead of a $1,200 MacBook made by slave labor, you're still supporting a capitalist economy based on slave labor. Justifying the rental expense doesn't really make sense, because they end up paying more in utilities in addition to the rent. If you're still on the hook for a lease and have most employees WFH, just downsize when the lease ends or move everything remote if possible.

Seems like banks are worried about the loan holders defaulting and are pushing companies to bring employees back to bring up demand for commercial real estate?

I'm aware, but that doesn't negate my point. The tenant company still has to pay more in utilities and such to bring people back to the office. Whether they pay that cost for 10, 20, however many years is extraneous.

Marketing email's subject made me think my card got hacked (lemmy.world)

A hostel company I stayed with a while back emailed me with the subject: "Your booking is confirmed!". This made me frantically check all my accounts since I hadn't booked any hostels recently. I was super concerned until I opened the email and saw... it was a stupid marketing email......
