Zink , to Technology in Google Chrome’s plan to limit ad blocking extensions kicks off next week

Fortunately I at least have Firefox on Linux. But then when I need to use Windows for something… well look at that, also Firefox!

A head pops out of the water

“Just use miiiiint!”

I’m familiar with some positively pleasant police officers that help around the local elementary school. All the adults and kids love them.

That doesn’t make me reject ACAB though. I don’t know what those cops have been up to in the 99% of their working hours where I don’t see them. Normally nice people do horrible shit all the time even without qualified immunity!

And even if they are as squeaky clean as cops be, the saying isn’t “a few good apples purifies the bunch.”

Zink , to linuxmemes in Shit...

Ehh, mutually assured destruction has worked so far, but there are some crazy assholes out there who might not act rationally.

Zink , to linuxmemes in Switched to linux before it became mainstream

I like to consider what I would or wouldn’t regret when I’m older. I’ve heard plenty of successful people lament not being a better parent while focused on their career. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard somebody regret spending time with their family instead of their work.

I use Linux cuz the IT & security folks at work gave us the OK for developers to dual boot.

Switching between the OSs makes windows feel so bad in comparison. Fortunately I basically only boot windows to make sure it stays in good standing with updates and network security. And this isn’t some hand crafted lightweight install. I threw Mint on there and it’s worked perfectly since day 1.

While he’s no doubt very high intelligence, I think there’s a combination of personality, personal interests, and drive that these outstanding people have. For some people, the work is what they want to be doing AND what makes them happy/fulfilled.

Like you, I am not like that. A productive day at work can feel great, but I’m never sitting at home thinking I’d rather be working on some idea for an app or game.

Society has taught me that what I SHOULD want to do is that “productive” stuff. Work long hours, strike it rich on my own or climb the ladder at work, etc. But the wiring in my brain does not get fulfillment and happiness from that stuff. But spending that time on family, pets, and hobbies has greatly increased my quality of life over the past few years.

Zink , to Comic Strips in Portable convenience [The Square Comics]

I want to add an extra panel where the laptop gets connected to AC power as well, and powers up like Popeye eating spinach.

Yeah, and the media is complicit in all of it.

But I still feel comfortable putting a chunk of the blame on the voters. You’re absolutely right about progressive policies being popular on their own, but the fact that people don’t vote accordingly is the fault of both the communicators and the public. The public who just rolls with the team sport of politics and don’t care to look into actual policies and their effects on people.

I don’t think the public carries most of the blame though, because being ignorant is not nearly as bad as all the intentional bad faith bullshit done by those more involved in the system.

Zink , to Technology in Amazon execs may be personally liable for tricking users into Prime sign-ups

I did check myself before I posted that. In fact, if you type “intent is 9/10 of the law” into DDG, the entire first page of results gives you “possession is 9/10 of the law” instead.

But to be fair, I did see two examples of the intent version after scrolling through the first few pages.

Zink , to Technology in Amazon execs may be personally liable for tricking users into Prime sign-ups

I think the saying is that possession is 9/10 of the law.

But I agree. Of course they intended to fuck people over. That’s their job, pretty much.

Zink , to Comic Strips in Seeing a lot of this lately...

I think it depends on the context and the details.

If your sell is “I’m not Mitt Romney,” that is pretty weak, even if you don’t like Romney.

If your sell is “I’m not Donald Trump,” that is a much more compelling thing to consider. I mean the fucker is on trial for and got impeached for some things that are truly heinous to see from a random schmuck, never mind the freaking President of the US.

Zink , to Comic Strips in Seeing a lot of this lately...

I think that should say “my candidate is far less shitty than the other guy” which is a different situation.

Zink , to Comic Strips in Seeing a lot of this lately...

Unfortunately I don’t think we collectively vote to help the poor and working class in the first place.

Zink , to Comic Strips in Seeing a lot of this lately...

You speak as if the democrats cooperating with republicans is a flaw on their part. They don’t exist in a vacuum — they have to deal with the American public. And when half this fucking country is voting for the disgusting shit the republicans are all about, the democrats aren’t going to stay in office if they always do the right thing. Politics sucks.

And just to clarify: I’m not saying they’re innocent. They do protect a lot of the same institutions that drive inequality, etc.

Also I don’t really hear "Things will get better if you just vote for our chosen establishment democrat one more time” much lately. It’s more like stopping the bleeding or putting down the gun against your head before you can start making improvements. Trumpism is just that bad.
