Yup. My old gaming rig is now quietly humming away in the basement as my dedicated media server.

The toll road scam: A government-made monopoly you pay for.

Here's a funny-because-it's-true take on Transurban and the poor tax it imposes, from Punter's Politics:

Roads need to be resurfaced constantly and rebuilt every 30 years or so. You will never finish paying off a road.

Bikes belong on roads that are built for vehicular traffic.

I think Cinnamon is version 6 on Mint while Debian is stuck on a v5 build.

You're thinking of crossover cables, though I'm not sure if those are still necessary.

An extra lane doubles capacity, so best case scenario you'd be looking at is traffic jams that go up to 15km, for a while.

Building more lanes makes it easier to drive and so more people are going to. You can't solve traffic this way due to induced demand.

All I ask is an e-bike and a path to ride her by.

Had my first driving lesson today (lemmy.ml)

I live in Australia but normally get around with a folding bike that I can take on busses and trains easily, however I have decided it's time to learn to drive, not due to any love of cars but rather just so I can do it if needed. Also I technically own half a car so it would be good if I can use it if I am ever moving or doing...

Preface: My primary method of transport is by bike if I can help it. I hate cars and everything they represent.

When I get behind the wheel of a car, it's like something in my brain flips and I notice my behaviour changes. I become more annoyed, aggravated, and impatient. I don't know what it is, but something about being surrounded by a steel cage that can explode up to 100km/h at a moment's notice makes you feel invincible.

A large part of the problem comes from the design of the road. To accommodate as many cars as possible the road is built to be gigantic, and when you're driving a car this makes you feel like you're safe to maneuver even at the expense of everybody else.

I think if we started designing cities properly, focusing first on pedestrians then bikes then buses etc, we'd end up with an urban environment where motorists do not feel as comfortable throwing their ego around and so will quiet down and behave.

I thought I was finally finished distro hopping after I landed on Fedora, but then I found Nobara and then the whole RHEL drama started so I went back to Debian stable but then NixOS caught my attention.

It will never end
