KDE and GNOME have that built in. You can add it via webdav to nautilus or gnome-files

Cheap? There are chinese 15 bucks android TVs. Amazon sells theirs for 50 bucks and it can play almost everything.

Amazon's is crap because it's like apple. You can't do anything that amazon doesn't want you to.

Chinese might be spyware. I have no idea. The good thing is they are usually rooted and you have full access to it. You can do whatever you want. They can play 4k but no avi or DV.

Maybe it's a weird idea but did you try immich's upload feature?

It worked with the key. Matrix isn't the easiest I agree but so far it's the most promising one. I love simpleX's anonymity but it doesn't have matrix' traction. Simple X's algorithm combined with matrix would be awesome and p2p of course :)

I understand your reasoning. And I understand it for old projects, matrix wasn't an option 5 or 10 years ago. Almost all modern public projects are on matrix nowadays. Someone said it already, there are also bridges and matrix doesn't excludr anyone.

Cool! You don't need a server specifically for that, a room is enough. Just create an account on a reliable server and create the room. Most big rooms are on matrix.org in my experience, unless it's some of the big projects from mozilla, gnome or kde but even openstreetmap are on matrix.org

Why is Matrix mentioned more often than XMPP in self hosted forums?

I'm looking into hosting one of these for the first time. From my limited research, XMPP seems to win in every way, which makes me think I must be missing something. Matrix is almost always mentioned as the de-facto standard, but I rarely saw arguments why it is better than XMPP?...

Xmpp is old and has no traction. Matrix is new and there are many people believing in it. There is a lot of money put on matrix. A lot of people want matrix to succeed. Especially companies, agencies and governments love matrix. Jumping on a train that already moves forward is easier than trying to push a standing train.

With xmpp, or signal I've got all my messages on my device. Distributing the info to other devices is difficult. With matrix everything sits on the server and distributes the info to the clients. That's like my file cloud, or my photo cloud or my music server, or my document server. Everything is saved centrally on a server and all is independent of the consumer device. I can use multiple devices and everything sits on the server. That's great for me as a user, it's easy.

Xmpp is scattered which is great on one hand but matrix development is moving very fast. Xmpp can't compete with that.

What's the advantage of xmpp over signal for the end user?

Especially since the original doesn't care about selinux and it would overwrite everything.

And it doesn't specify a repository which breaks auto updates of podman

The datbase files were saved in an internal docker directory and the breaking change is that the location is now different, outside of docker.

You can easily add POIs with streetcomplete, osmand or directly on osm.org . Just add POIs whenever you search for it and it is missing. It'll take some time depending on your area but if you don't start today, there won't be an alternative for you tomorrow. Ask a friend to do the same. My area has more pois and details and is more up to date and the location is more accurate than google.

Waze is google.

Osmand can do that easily. You can even copy coordinates.

Magic earth can do it as well but it's not open source. At least it uses osm.

I bet 90% of waze users have no clue.

I met people who didn't know youtube was google. The "instagram by facebook" should be mandatory like "made in germany" for all goods and brands.

"Made in germany" was invented by the British to show its citizens which products were locally made and which were foreign to boost local production. It backfired hard and people prefered German goods.

You could use his nextcloud account and use https://www.f-droid.org/en/packages/com.mendhak.gpslogger/ to upload your location to phonetrack within nextcloud.

Hiya, so quickly wondering wether you have enabled this or not. Obviously it's not great for privacy, but it also seems very nice to have for image cloud solutions, so that images can be sorted based on location. Are there any good solutions for this? I'd like have it enabled, but also afraid of sharing images with sensitive...
