Restore immich photo backup?

I have been backing up the photos folder for my immich. Something weird happened with one of my hard drives so i had to restore. It has a folder for each year and inside there is a folder for each day. immich doesnt support the ability to drag and drop the year folder into the UI. What's the best way to get all my media back...

Is there a trick to this? I have attempted several times. It always says the path is wrong... I've opened terminal for the container and CD into the directory and LS to see all my photos. Copy the path name and put it into the external library and it still says bad path.

HDD spins but OS doesnt see mountable disk

The primary OS for this disk was Unraid. Its formated in BTRFS. I don't think either of those matter. The disk spins and worked before the reboot. But now. No matter what machine, port or cable I use its not mountable. Is there anything I can try? I was going to attempt Spinrite on it however it doesn't see anything either....

I have two set up. But I live in the middle of nowhere. So no traffic. However I did get a fly by once. Someone flew over my house on a commercial flight broadcasting. That was neat. Doubt they were able to pick up my reply.

I used to use these guys for the same reason. I moved because of the forced agreeing to giving them your data. And now I'm paying less else where.

Selfhosted Wireless Cameras

I currently have a couple of (amazon) Blink cameras. I would like similar cameras but that are self hosted. Yes these basically are however the HW-Sync module sucks its slow. I've tried other chinese brands which are slower. I was about to buy the Eufy Homebase setup it seemed perfect easy low power cameras. However their "self...

I do love me some ESP32! I did not think about doing this.. I am sure there are stats on power consumption. I think making it outdoor/weatherproof would be the hardest part.

Do you have any that are solar? or outdoors?

What wireless cameras are you using. I too love frigate.

calmluck9349 OP ,
@calmluck9349@infosec.pub avatar

The blink cameras are battery powered. 100% wireless (no network or power cables) . Only trigger on motion or if activated for live stream.

Are the Reolink wireless? What models? Do you have outdoor ones? Im looking for outdoor.

Proton VPN doesn't work but my cheap shitty VPN that isn't well known works. Linux with Firefox or android with ff

They have the Spitz out now. I live rural and actually have this as my whole home modem.

I have a pfsense modem between it and my network for routing/vlan but its great! I have the modem paired with the waveform antenna on a 40ft tower. I love that it tells me connection speed to the tower similar to how your WiFi network adapter will tell you the speed between it and the WiFi access point. It will say like 200M. So I know I can get up to 200M but because of prioritization+usage on the tower my actual speeds are 80mbps during Netflix hours but closer to 200m when I first wake up.

Tldr: glinet makes some solid hardware and software. (I know openwrt did most of the heavy lifting. But its well polished. )

Its still expensive. I get better speeds from 5g/LTE. I live in very rural farm town usa. My LTE is through T-Mobile for $45/mo and average speeds of 80x20mpbs. Peaks around 200mbps down and 180upload.

I do have the antenna pointed directly at the tower above the tree line.

Wave form antenna kit - $400
Spitz modem - $400
But my only alternative was starlink so the ROI on this setup was real fast compared. I also have a Verizon simcard as a hot fail over. But that Sim is data capped. I work from home in IT so I need the Internets.

Ive thought about side hustling my setup and selling it to my neighbors. But it would just congest my tower more... Lol

pfSense on an old PC with two NICs should do well. You could buy dedicated hw like a protectoli. Ive had one for 6 years now no issues.

What's the real world connection speed from your residential IP to your Server?

I'm using contabo and the VPS I got is advertised as 1 Gigabit. When I do a speedtest or use iperf3 to connect to public servers I get pretty close to 1 Gigabit. But from my residential IP the speed drops down to 100-250 Mbit/s. My home internet connection can handle 500 Mbit just fine....

Where I live I only have LTE/cell for internet. I work from home. I use this https://www.openmptcprouter.com/

So I can have multiple WAN connections at home. Not sure if it would work in reverse. Maybe if you installed it backwards?

I use kagi.com as a search engine and it automatically does that for links I click on thru them. I think there is a browser extension for Firefox that will do this for you as well.

Is there a FOSS/privacy oriented IoT community?

Is there a community specific to FOSS or just general privacy oriented IoT? With plenty of hardware discussion along with software. Routers, piholes, Meshtastic, anything IoT but open source. If it touches a network but you want it to do something it doesn't. Flashing a doorbell camera with FOSS firmware. Hosting media servers...

Privacy respecting location sharing?(find my friends)

My family currently uses life360(iOS and android). But I hate their privacy policy. I'm looking for an alternative. The thing that's difficult is I can't find one that's opt in to each other. Like my parents are split so they dont want to share with each other but the rest of us do. Prefer selfhosted but anything is better that...
