The phone is, Apple isn’t. They outline everything in the keynote if you are interested.

ji17br ,

It’s more like a phone that slightly slower, or a phone that will randomly turn off. Pretty sure everyone would want the first.

ji17br ,

I believe that was for incorrectly done 3rd party repairs. I believe they did add it to release notes that nobody reads, but essentially you are correct. They got sued not for slowing the phones down, but for not being transparent about it.

ji17br ,

It had nothing to do with the capacity of the battery. It had to do with providing instantaneous high current when doing something demanding. Old batteries couldn’t do this and voltage would drop to unsustainable levels causing a brown out/black out.

ji17br ,

But it’s NOT a capacity problem. The phone would turn off and then turn back on. The batteries still had power.

It’s funny you say I am less technical when I describe the exact technical reason for a shutdown. You just keep saying the same thing.

It’s a chemical aging issue with batteries. As they age they cannot provide the same amount of current at the same charge level.

Current draw is not even close to steady, there are lots of spikes. It’s the spike that is a problem.

If you had a new battery that had say 500mAh of charge remaining the issue wouldn’t happen. If you had an old battery with 2000mAh of charge remaining it’s very possible the issue happens.

Hopefully this is a simple way to describe to you that capacity does not matter. It’s all about current.

ji17br ,

I’m done explaining. You’re still wrong. I understand max capacity is voltage*current but that literally does not matter. Study some electrical engineering and then get back to me.

ji17br ,

I think it’s more about using shitty batteries. Some 3rd party shops will buy the cheapest batteries in order to get a cheaper fee/make more money. From experience the cheap batteries are horrible and don’t anywhere near the performance of a quality battery.

Spotify is raising the cost of Premium subscriptions, again (www.engadget.com)

Spotify is officially raising its Premium subscription rates in the US come July, following reports of the move in April. The platform is increasing its Individual plan from $11 to $12 monthly and its Duo plan from $15 to $17 monthly — the same jump as last year's $1 and $2 price hikes, respectively. However, its Family plan...

ji17br ,

They also payout about 2.5X what Spotify does to artists.

ji17br ,

You’re only robbing yourself if you go cash only. $1 will be worth less tomorrow than it is today.

ji17br ,

If a user can open their baking app, and this app can sense that and open instead, then that is 100% an Android issue. That behaviour shouldn’t be possible.

ji17br ,

If that actually happens money is literally just paper at that point.

The $1 in my account actually grows. Sorry you don’t understand basic finance.

ji17br ,

Damn dude. You really have no clue. You lend the bank your money. They can use that money to lend to others. They give you some of the profit.

If you deposited money in a bank, and they told you it’s now their money and you own nothing, then you didn’t deposit money in a bank.

You are clearly leaving out important details. Banks can’t just take your money.

The fact that it seems to have happened multiple times to you is extremely suspicious.

ji17br ,

Again, I believe you are leaving out key details. They didn’t just take your money.

My assumption is that you didn’t understand how banking fees work and overdrafted your account or something. Perhaps got a credit card and only made minimum payments, which essentially just covers the interest.

Best Buy Membership "discount" (lemmy.world)

So I was shopping with my wife today and I said "oh let's see if my membership helps out." So we went and added the same item to each of our carts, and to our surprise, the total was the same! So what is it exactly that I'm paying for in this membership if the items "original price" is higher for me than it is for regular...

ji17br ,

And free shipping. I think he would have been charged for delivery on the non-member order. Probably why he didn’t add it.

Unless the item he is buying is one of the “exclusive offers”, then I don’t really see the issue.

ji17br ,

That’s not what’s happening.

ji17br ,

Ok I normally hate puns on peoples names, but Enron Musk is hilarious

ji17br ,

Better be careful, you might accidentally fall out of a helicopter.

ji17br ,

If you don’t like being disturbed while driving you should use do not disturb while driving.

iPad Pro with M4 chip boasts impressive performance jump compared to just-released M3 MacBook Air (9to5mac.com)

On raw performance might, the M4 really does live up to Apple’s promises, should deliver. Single core is up about 20% compared to all M3 chips and more than 40% compared to M2. The generational computational leap from the previous M2 iPad Pro is at least a 42% jump on single-core and multi-core.

ji17br ,

It’s not a waste at all. The extra computing power allows them to get much better performance than previous model OR the same performance with half the power use. That’s pretty important in a mobile device.

ji17br ,

MacBook Pros are 100Wh as well. Battery life is incredible.

ji17br ,

Ah so just the 16” is 100Wh then. Makes sense, more room.

ji17br ,

Some are selling your data, some are using it internally. Beyond that who knows

ji17br ,

What benefits? Publicity sure, but they don’t get tax breaks for collecting donations.

ji17br ,

Doesn’t That tower still need to route the call to 911? And if that routing is broken the call wouldn’t go through…I think?

ji17br ,

I was under the impression that a company (AT&T) owns the tower, and they can lease out connections from that tower to other providers. They are also required by law to route 911 calls for free, but I can see a scenario if they botched the routing where 911 would not be accessible from that tower.

ji17br ,

Not sure how accurate this would be as charging is not 100% efficient. Also the amount of power the phone uses while charging would have to be taken into account as well.

ji17br ,

I’ve heard this a couple times now. Where in Canada are they doing this?

ji17br ,

I just tried with the default files app. You can definitely rename file extensions.

Ticketek ‘glitch’ appears to re-sell fan’s $659 ticket for Taylor Swift concert — “They said, ‘someone else has it, we don’t know who, we can’t check or track who has your ticket’” (au.news.yahoo.com)

Ticketek ‘glitch’ appears to re-sell fan’s $659 ticket for Taylor Swift concert — “They said, ‘someone else has it, we don’t know who, we can’t check or track who has your ticket’”::A Taylor Swift fan believed her VIP ticket was 'stolen' from her account by Ticketek after an apparent system 'glitch'.

ji17br ,

Also, if they had booked flights, hotels, and made other commitments to travel to the concert that money might not be easy to get back.

ji17br ,

Yes you can. The battery plugs into the wall with USB-C.

ji17br ,

You’re a little slow. I’ll spell this out for you. Headset to battery with built in connector. Included battery to any battery bank of your choice with any usb-c cable.

ji17br ,

You read something that was true, falsely claimed it was incorrect, a different person corrected you, and rather than checking to see if you were right, which would be a simple google search, you doubled down that something is not possible. And now that you realize you’re wrong you move the goalposts and say it’s useless either way. It’s exhausting dealing with people like you.

ji17br ,

I’m just correcting the guy who said this was not possible and that Vision Pro did not use usb-c. Didn’t realize people don’t like facts around here.

ji17br ,

I would never buy a Vision Pro, doesn’t mean I’m not going to correct people when they are wrong about tech.

ji17br ,

Why are you continuing to lie? I never said you can connect directly to it. The parent comment said

“You can use any USB battery with it, just plug it into the battery pack.”

Which is absolutely true. You claimed it was false. I corrected you. I’ve made no other claims about wanting a Vision Pro, loving Apple, or anything else that you are insinuating. Just take the L dude.

I could not find any resources that charging a the Vision Pro battery from an external battery is a safety hazard. It’s using USB spec for power delivery, as long as it receives the correct voltage and current it wouldn’t care what is on the other end.

Sure, some cheap battery banks are not designed to be charged and discharged at the same time, but this is clearly not the case here.

ji17br ,

Holy shit dude. You still don’t understand? There is no lighting connector involved.

The cable coming out of the battery pack and goes to the wall is standard usb-c. Rather than plugging this usb-c connector into the included wall adapter, you could plug it into a battery that supports usb-c power delivery.

I honestly don’t know how I can make it any clearer for you.

ji17br ,

Did you just call this man dog shit in-person!? How rude!

ji17br ,

Honestly, a preview for another show on the same service doesn’t bother me AS LONG AS it is skippable. I’ve never used paramount so I’m not sure if that’s the case.

If I’m being honest when I was a kid part of the fun of going to the movies was the previews before, finding out about upcoming movies and what not.

I do agree that you shouldn’t see the same preview every episode cause that’s super annoying. But I’d be totally fine with one per session or something. Again, as long as it’s skippable right from the start.

ji17br ,

He just wants to hate Apple and really has no clue about this headset. I find it futile to reply to these types of people.

ji17br ,

If you genuinely think it’s worth less than $200 then I don’t know what to tell you.

ji17br ,

To me, no I would never pay $3500 for a headset. But I can also appreciate the insane amount of tech that’s included in it. Historically the 3rd or 4th gen of a new apple product is where they really hit their stride. And hopefully in this case come down in price.

As for the battery I personally don’t think that would be much of an issue since when I think about my main use case for it I’d be sitting on the couch and it would just be plugged into the wall. I couldn’t find the length of included usb-c cable online but I have a few 2 meter ones already that I would use.

On flights I can see it being frustrating for sure.

ji17br ,

The thing you have to factor in is they can’t make very many of them due to technical limitations. I agree $2k would be a good price but if they will sell as many as they could possibly make at $3.5k they aren’t going to sell for less. Gotta recoup all that R&D cost somehow.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a better, more refined headset from Apple for under $2k in the next few years. I’m sure they know $3500 is out of reach for the vast majority of consumers.

ji17br ,

You can literally run anything you want on MacOS

ji17br ,

Incorrect. Apple does not need to approve or sign any code for it to run on any Mac.

ji17br ,

Highly recommend Apple TV. My only issue is the insane amount of YouTube ads. Feels like more ads than content some days.

ji17br ,

Initially I agreed with the guy above you, and then I read your comment. Pretty refreshing take.
