That's kind of silly comparison, as that money wouldn't have been available to invest if it hadn't been spent on a home. It would have been spent on rent instead.

They technically didn't stop the reverse engineering from working. They threatened users with bans and scared them into not using the reverse engineered software.

Everyone using Beeper was authorized to access those APIs. Apple didn't like how they were accessing those APIs.

AI still doesn't "understand" language or pictures or anything else. It's little more than statistical analysis based on text and input from humans tagging photos. The fact that we can get some neat output is not indicitive that any understanding is going on behind the scenes.

God damn this shit is so fucking annoying. I paid something like $100 last year for the Roku Ultra because it was better than the built-in software on my TV and now I have to see ads? Fuck em, I'll repurpose a mini PC I have and replace the Roku.

I would be fine paying for a YouTube premium account if I could get one for like $3-4 that just removes the ads. I don't want their music service.

I don't get what you think that "realization" changes. I occasionally watch videos on YouTube and I'd be willing to pay a certain amount to watch to those videos without ads. Since they don't offer that, I'm not paying them any money. For the record, they did offer such a plan called "YouTube Premium Lite" not that long ago and they axed it.

Car and oil companies lobbied hard as fuck to ensure public transit in the US wouldn’t be good enough

I thought the lack of transit had more to do with everyone wanting their own suburban home with a yard, two cars, boats, campers, etc.
