It even did the same thing with enterprise customers. All our machines suddenly started asking us to enable search. Like why do I need another thing when opening the Start Menu and typing is the same fucking thing?? And to fuck with my group policies and undo the customization I had is mega infuriating.

mjhelto ,

Exactly, this! uBlock Origins will block upwards of thousands of ads/trackers/whatever from YouTube. After it hits about 50k+, it'll start to act strangely. At that point I just refresh the video and it all goes away. I think this happens when YouTube changes something cached in the browser, which was originally not blocked by uBO, even when uBO might have been updated to block the new stuff. I have uBO on auto-update for this reason. Whenever I notice shit not working, F5 FTW!

The only way he could ruin porn sites was if the site's content were replaced with only videos of Elon gyrating his hips to Eye of the Tiger, while wearing one of those Borat bathing suits, never breaking eye contact with the camera.

If the moneys are anything to go on, that dude's in for an extremely painful death.

The culture of individualism will be extremely hard to move past at this point. Also, the wealthy won't let it happen. If you think the police are only there to protect the wealthy's investments, just wait till we actually get some traction on any sort of labor movement.

mjhelto ,

I mean, do it? No reason to announce it here, and no one will care about your plethora of cameras. Why would what someone chooses to add to their property be something that "pisses you off" so much?

mjhelto ,

Then don't go on their property?

Roku explores taking over HDMI feeds with ads (www.lowpass.cc)

Roku is exploring ways to show consumers ads on its TVs even when they are not using its streaming platform: The company has been looking into injecting ads into the video feeds of third-party devices connected to its TVs, according to a recent patent filing.  ...

Replacing the Windows key. Calling it right now. You'll be forced into using AI in future Windows versions by turning your, "Windows key + typing app you want to open," to a hyper-active Cortana you help, "train" with your data.

mjhelto ,

If anyone is dumb enough to put anything from that dude into their head, that brain was already damaged!

mjhelto ,

At this point, AI seems like a silly gimmick to these companies. We're a stones throw away from the scene in South Park with Funnybot 5000 and the movie execs drilling it for hours for movie ideas.

Technically, Office doesn't have auto save enabled unless you sync it with OneDrive or enable it in settings or GPO.

So wait, doesn't the naming for their builds based on the year and whether the first half, or second half, of the year? How would they have a 24H2 if we're only in February of 2024?

mjhelto ,

Samesies. Didn't give two shits when they bundled Amazon prime with video and such. Easy decision of my digital existence was dropping prime soon as they announced the ads and tiered payments.

mjhelto ,

I'm sorry for your lost employment. Hopefully you at least acquired skills to land an even better job!

mjhelto ,

Eliminate the erroneous emissions. Interesting take on the ol' "eat the rich." I like it!

My power got shut off one day before December last year. I thought the bills were all being paid cause I received no notice of delinquency. Turns out, my electric company purged my account.

When I tried to make a new account, going through multiple attempts where the only thing that worked right was their shitty captcha (select all motorcycles bullshit), I finally had to call them. Turns out, soon as I switched to a chromium browser, it allowed me to complete the registration.

I told the rep on the phone, a nice lady who was as shocked as I was that Firefox wasn't allowing registration to complete, to convey to their IT team that a) removing the accounts of paying customers is a really awful policy (who logs into their power companies site after setting up auto pay?) and b) that catering to a single line of browser was not bad practice. She said she'd pass it on.

I don't think she passed it on.

Only if you have to type it in to unlock your vault. Now, bear with me.

Bitwarden (maybe others) lets you set a PIN to unlock your vault. Normally, you would think this is a less secure setup, easier to crack with the method outlined in this article. Except with Bitwarden you have to set up the pin in every browser extension and every app install.

Meaning, unless they have access to your device, the PIN to unlock one instance of Bitwarden could be different from the PIN for another. They also don't have to be strictly 4-digit PINs, either. I highly recommend password managers, but for my money, Bitwarden has all my love.

Disclaimer: I am on no way affiliated with Bitwarden. But I could be if they paid me!
