I recently installed openwrt in a banana pi, and it's so cool to see this distro being mentioned around. It's definitely a different linux experience, even after using linux for more than a decade.

nossaquesapao ,

That's really interesting. Are those routers already supported by the project, or are you going to port yourself? Maybe you could document the process and post it somewhere, ifyouh have the time ;)

nossaquesapao ,

The best place would be the wiki (https://openwrt.org/wiki/wikirules), but even a blog post somewhere would be helpful.

And remember to post about it on lemmy, because I think a lot of people (like me>.<) would love such a guide.

Did you stop using a computer between 1994 and 2001? I feel like there's some interesting story in there.

Just like that safetynet thing. They will write long pages about it, but won't admit they want to make custom android roms unusable for the average user.

The good thing about forums is that, once a problem is addressed, the solution remains there and is indexed by search engines for everyone to see. You can say anything about forums, but I doubt you never fixed some issue by looking at some old forum thread, without even having to bother anyone.

If the router provided by my isp won't allow me to change the dns server, is there a workaround for having to set the local dns server on each device that doesn't involve getting a new router?

nossaquesapao , (edited )

That's a great idea! I will try it tomorrow, thank you.

Edit: Worked nicely :)

There are a few services that allow you to play with the actual game being rendered on remote computers, while your pc only shows the image and sends the input commands. I think the more popular ones are xcloud and geforce now. There are also a few smaller services that allow you to run anything you'd like, without limitations.

Other search engines can be worse, but if we keep using google and allowing them to have the monopoly, no search engine will ever get better.

I'd suggest a raspberry pi. You can run lineageos on it without gapps, or libreelec if kodi is enough for you. This optio nis not only better than tv boxes for privacy, but is also much more durable, since you can usually install a newer android version later, while tv boxes rarely get updates.

It's not so simple. I've been trying to go the foss self-hosted way, as well as help p2p projects, and I got stuck because I'm behind a cgnat, unable to forward ports, and my shitty isp has no ipv6. I can't afford vpns at the moment, so I got stuck.
Besides, all that needed a lot of tech skills most people won't have. This is a serious barrier of entry for a lot of people.

I hate those sensationalist titles that portrait AI as if some sort of sentient being, and not just a tool the researchers used. The secondary title should have been the main one.

nossaquesapao OP ,

Patents seems to be the hardest one to find alternatives. The thing with google patents is that it searches from multiple databases, from multiple countries, so we don't need to look for each source.

nossaquesapao OP ,

I tried it, but didn't find a way to search for articles. it seems closer to zotero than scholar. Am I missing something?

nossaquesapao OP ,

Thank you for the tip. In my case, I'm working with technology prospecting, and we use patents as a source of information on what kinds of new technologies to expect, what technologies are about to become public domain, etc. It's not something that can violate any IP.

I'm still mourning for my t400 that died last week, and everything makes me remember my old friend :(
