Same because the Fedora Linux subbreddit helps a lot for general odd stuff that happens

KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

Fedora Linux IT support for obscure things that break and other Linux and Windows subs because I kinda like to see what boneheaded mistake Microsoft will make next

KuroeNekoDemon ,

Same except that was my server (Fedora 40 Beta). I nuked it and installed Ubuntu Server on it and reinstalled everything. Works but man bad timing as I'm moving out in a month

KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

I still remember that video I watched where a line in the Steam code back in the day was titled SCARY!!!!! and it was rm -rf $STEAMROOT. This nuked a guy's computer because short answer $STEAMROOT was actually / root, long answer here's the video. This nuked both his PC and his external drive that is some pretty bad code but this JavaScript code is up there

KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

So would it be funny if I made a meme like this except it was with the trojan horse meme template? I kinda want to

KuroeNekoDemon ,

All I see is more Linux Servers and PCs to try Arch and Gentoo on over my Fedora desktop that I use because I need a good balance of stability and up to date software

KuroeNekoDemon ,

As someone with ADHD this is exactly what happened to me when I switched to Linux. Continues to keep me occupied 3 months later

KuroeNekoDemon ,

Fun fact whenever I go back to my parents place I still see their old Windows 7 desktop alive and well for over 10 years and they don't care it just works

Linux: You can mostly stick to the GUI to install software, touch the terminal for obscure/command line applications and install GPU drivers and you have a functioning system

Windows: Forced to go into regedit and services.msc to fix high resource usage on a fresh install, debloat scripts to remove bloat on Windows and need to update system, scower the internet for drivers and all the software you need

I can see why I got fed up very fast trying to use Windows 11 in QEMU tbh...never trying that shitshow again...

Edit the only packages I had to install through Bash are: Neofetch, Htop, OpenSeeFace, Brave Browser, Wine, Nvidia drivers and ProtonVPN. Linux is very user friendly imo

KuroeNekoDemon ,

Wait you guys use Signal? Idk a single Canadian that uses it we all use Discord, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Telegram, WeChat, and Snapchat depending on the person. The reason why I put WeChat there because I had to use it in university because at the time we had a lot of Chinese international students so had no choice

KuroeNekoDemon ,

I hated Windows 11 because:

  • Constant Telemetry
  • Hogs resources. Examples include: Using 1/3 of my 1TB SSD and 1/2 of 16GB of DDR5 RAM
  • Tons of vulnerabilities, several that remain unaddressed
  • Forced updates
  • The UI and start menu is hideous, search immediately searches Bing instead of my system for an app

I love Fedora 39 because:

  • No telemetry, optional anonymous bug reporting
  • Uses only 50GB of my 1TB SSD and 1.6GB of 16GB of DDR5 RAM on the OS plus GNOME
  • Vulnerabilities continue to be patched through kernel updates (currently up to 6.7.7 on Fedora)
  • I get to choose when to update my system
  • I like my riced UI, the application menu is clean and search searches for apps on my system first with perfect accuracy

Did I prove my point?

KuroeNekoDemon ,

Time to hack the vending machine snd delete all the partitions off of it and render it unusable

KuroeNekoDemon ,

Yeah but this is the University of Waterloo we're talking about here. This hit Canadian mainstream media CTV News so I know that. Also for an university specializing in Engineering and Mathematics there's a shit ton of cameras around

KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

I was in shock at how smooth everything was like these madlads made something amazing that's less bloated than Xorg. Props to the devs!

KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

Same I wanna try KDE Plasma 6 and Pop!_OS's cosmic desktop when they release. These projects look really cool

KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

I get 1080p 120fps consistently with my RTX 3050 Mobile and high refresh rates

KuroeNekoDemon ,

I use Fedora with Gnome Desktop and it runs so well you will not be disappointed

KuroeNekoDemon ,

sudo dnf install fedora-39-workstation-edition

KuroeNekoDemon ,

This is accurate. Getting error codes in coding is like buy one get an additional 100 free

KuroeNekoDemon ,

Oh well don't blame the player blame the game

KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

Honestly if I played any games that had anti cheat I would run a windows vm in QEMU/KVM. Go the GrapheneOS route and sandbox the spyware (cough Google and Microsoft cough)

KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

For me Windows 11 used to consume 7GB of RAM, OpenSUSE Tumbleweed with KDE Plasma only uses 2GB

  • KuroeNekoDemon ,

Same I also add Decentraleyes and Privacy Badger to my repertoire. Never had a problem but maybe I should think about the sponsorblock extension as well

    KuroeNekoDemon ,

That is actually very true honestly but also needing sonething as stable as Debian, bleeding edge as Arch or right in the middle with Fedora and also which kernel the user made need for their hardware is also a factor in this as well. DEs take priority tho as it's literally the interface you interact with 90% of the time

    KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

Idk how it just crashed when I opened a Steam game and VSeeFace that runs perfectly with OpenSeeFace and Wine. I had over 10GB of RAM left btw

    KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

    Yes 2GB Swap in opensuse

    KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

So 32GB then? I have 16GB of RAM

    KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

You can never have too much RAM

    KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

No it's just Atlus being Atlus as it was SMT 3 Nocturne Remaster giving me shit and crashing my system. If I play the original version it's fine or any other game for that matter

    KuroeNekoDemon OP ,

Or if you read another one of my comments I found out that this was isolated to SMT 3 Nocturne Remaster on Steam. For some reason if I try to boot that with VSeeFace my PC crashes but not with the original version or other games. It's an Atlus being Atlus problem

    KuroeNekoDemon ,

Wait so the not being able to completely get rid of the Riot client and all their games and it still popped up on my desktop wasn't me going crazy? It might be Chinese malware in the end? This is just a whole new meaning to that now

    KuroeNekoDemon ,

Yeah give me a minute to install and setup proprietary Nvidia drivers, Retroarch, PCSX2, Lutris, Steam and Wine-staging along with all of the necessary dependencies. Worth it tho

    KuroeNekoDemon ,

I feel like a mother that says: “I’m not mad, just disappointed…”

    KuroeNekoDemon ,

Already ahead of you and installed Linux and around 2400 packages for the software I use

    KuroeNekoDemon ,

Man I really like OpenSUSE Tumbleweed with KDE you all should try it
