plactagonic , to Technology in 42 key points of the secret #EUGoingDark surveillance plan for the new EU Commission

From some more articles I grasped that it is shady. Some lobbying groups, secret commissions and stuff like that. They try really hard to not be the ones to point fingers at.

plactagonic , to Technology in Linux May Be the Best Way to Avoid the AI Nightmare

I think that there are more issues like archaic connectors and stuff like that. You can't find new hardware with 30yo standard io.

plactagonic , to Technology in Linux May Be the Best Way to Avoid the AI Nightmare

The oldest version of Win I used was 95 about 2 years ago on chromatography machine (I think hplc or gas).

It is to my knowledge still in use in the school because the software don't run on newer machines. The teacher told me that he don't know what will he do when it dies. It isn't really an issue on Linux.

plactagonic , to Fuck Cars in The NYTimes is once again trashing the most promising mobility innovation of the 21st century

It's stupid but I understand. At these speeds you shouldn't be allowed to ride there. When you don't have to make an effort to get to this speed it is easy to lose track how fast you actually going. When you ride on bike path it is common to slow under 20km/h when it is full.

Here (in EU) I know lots of people who use them legitimately, but no one checks for removal of speed limiter.

Now at least they have to have insurance so it may decrease the number of a-holes because it is easy to check.

I think that e-bikes and e-scooters are misrepresented by few a-holes who makes motorbikes from them.

Yes when you brake the law and are going 30 km/h in a bike lane you are a-hole but most of them are ok.

plactagonic , to Technology in It looks a lot like VMware just lost a 24,000-VM customer • The Register

It will be probably more. I talked with sysadmin from some smaller provider in my country few months ago. And he told me that the migration will take them for most systems about 2 years (depreciation of hardware) and for some machines about 5 years.

So lot of customers are in process of replacing it but it will take multiple years.

plactagonic , to Fuck Cars in Noticed this while talking with a couple of friends

Maybe, it was few years ago when we chatted about it, and suspension seatposts are niche product so they probably didn't knew about it.

plactagonic , to Comic Strips in The one and only downside to wearing crocs

No it was only tested with Fedora.

To be fair I know few people with back problems and they say that full suspension enduro bike is their solution to ride anywhere. Even on roads.

They just need the cushioning of the rear suspension to not get their back wrecked on the first bump they ride on.

Battery less phone. He removed battery to make some embedded display.

plactagonic , to Fuck Cars in Gen Z is choosing not to drive

I and my brother did some math about cars.

We both work and have money for car but just insurance, technical and emissions control... is more expensive than public transport ticket (for one year in our city). And we didn't count in petrol and parking.

In short for us it just doesn't make economical sense to own one.
