Don't manually install any drivers, the ones in the kernel by default are ideal. Maybe a power related setting like cpu governor. Newer dxvk versions don't have the shader compilation lag that previously existed either

ryannathans ,

Shouldn't be a problem anymore, was only an issue with firmware when the card was super new

ryannathans ,

What are your requirements and desires for browsing/viewing?

ryannathans ,

Mega is e2ee and much cheaper

ryannathans ,

I recently discovered these comics let me tell you I am so fucking lost hahaha

ryannathans ,

Just wait till you find out about FreeBSD and its manual

ryannathans ,

Closed garden has the same problem too, it's not immune

Threads is automatically hiding comments that mention Pixelfed (mastodon.social)

For anyone wondering if Threads and Facebook at large will be a fine neighbor in the space and compatible with other apps/services in the fediverse: they’re already automatically hiding comments that mention Pixelfed https://mastodon.social/@dansup/112126250737482807

ryannathans ,

They've also just mapped themselves by selecting the inverse

ryannathans ,

A lot of people here really do be describing docker like flatpak

ryannathans ,

Not self hosted but proton's calendar is great

ryannathans ,

Or you could just post it and then fix it up later

ryannathans ,

AU laws are worse than US laws, in fact, the US gets AU to do things for them that would otherwise be illegal if performed by US agents

ryannathans ,

Though the bridge works really well

ryannathans ,

Doesn't really matter with them being non unique. Multiple people can have the same username, there's a randomly generated number that goes with it

ryannathans ,

A pact maybe?

ryannathans ,

I'd suggest a tor exit node but that might make some governments come knocking

ryannathans ,

Wonder if this is gonna make RED tech more or less consumer friendly.. They weren't going a good way I feel

ryannathans ,

Yeah a one off is generally a small batch run

ryannathans ,

They make it sound trivial to filter away

ryannathans ,

Most computer users don't even know what an operating system is

ryannathans ,

Ethically it'd be shitty and people don't want to be part of an instance with shitty admins so people would migrate away. Technically, nothing unless you're using a VPN. Welcome to the internet, the same is true for every website

ryannathans ,

Though, there's always malicious doctors

ryannathans ,

You can probably check the commits since 10.8

ryannathans ,

Is this in response to AMD's cuda adaptor

ryannathans ,

I use ubiquiti cameras and nvr for this purpose, might not be open source but I keep all the footage locally, it's easy to use and feature rich

ryannathans ,

You can even read message contents sometimes. You know what apps they are using and can precisely correlate messages with those services

Whats the purpose for usernames on signal?

Been using signal for years and love it and got the majority of my contacts on to it. My question is how are usernames useful now? You still need to register with a phone number with signal to limit spam and bots afaik and I'm assuming you should protect your username just like you do your phone number anyways because spam,...

ryannathans ,

Talking to people you don't want to give your number to. It's trivial to change username

ryannathans ,

Or even better use something like ZFS with CoW that can't corrupt on power loss

ryannathans ,

It was supported and the default out of the box when I installed my OS

ryannathans ,

Are you talking about Linux distros? What manual partitioning has to occur?

ryannathans ,

Silverbullet but you have to do your own authentication and TLS

ryannathans ,

Sucks that it doesn't have any authentication or TLS support

ryannathans ,

I have a 64gb one still going, one of the originals haha

Another successful OpenBSD setup

I've been buying these little boxes from AliExpress for years to use as firewalls and routers. My oldest one is almost 9 years old now! OpenBSD installs just fine. Just a BIOS tweak to always boot up after power is restored.

@selfhosted

ryannathans ,

Smg2?

ryannathans ,

Restore power status after AC loss

ryannathans ,

Basic usability features missing from teams. The PWA doesn't even notify you when a meeting starts

Originally written to render the GUI on another machine across a network to where the program is running a bit like RDP, it got bastardised into displaying GUIs on the same machine the app is running on and never lost the fat
