That's the biggest thing. apt install xyz works on my N100 based box every time I expect it will, but it was always a crapshoot on a Pi. If you don't need GPIO you don't need a Pi.

sploosh ,

They didn't give you shit. You paid them for a service. Corps are not your friends.

sploosh ,

Shit, I'm a dog person and you've got me rethinking things.

sploosh ,

My cat is a sweet baby, until you pet her 1/4 inch too close to the line near her belly that's invisible and keeps moving. When you do that she turns into a furry squirming angry thing that's sharp on 5 of its 6 points.

Is it mangosteen? I'm guessing it's mangosteen.

sploosh ,

If a bunch of enthusiasts are simply forgetting their basic post-OC troubleshooting and causing tons of RMAs... well that's just funny.

Your glove caught fire because you put it in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes, when leather will readily burn at 210 degrees. I don't know how other people are pulling it off, as googling around pulls up the same instructions you apparently followed.

I never believed them, because I feared it would catch fire.

Seems like you knew better, which must make this more frustrating. Nothing stings quite like a self-inflicted wound.

As for the Easter stuff, that's really all about your personal situation and your belief system.

Redditors Vent and Complain When People Mock Their "AI Art" (futurism.com)

Setting aside the usual arguments on the anti- and pro-AI art debate and the nature of creativity itself, perhaps the negative reaction that the Redditor encountered is part of a sea change in opinion among many people that think corporate AI platforms are exploitive and extractive in nature because their datasets rely on...

sploosh ,

Asking a computer to create an image is fundamentally different from constructing a scene and photographing it. One is using a machine, skill, talent and creativity to create art. The other is having a machine generate art for you.

I've got a BeeLink N100 system that's just a bit bigger than a NUC, has two 2.5Gb LAN ports and came with a 512gb nvme drive. Works a treat as a Jellyfin server with TONS of processor and ram headroom. N100 is a great little chip, so long as you're not expecting i5+ power.

Power factor isn't a thing in DC and GPT appears to have assumed a DC powered fridge.

sploosh ,

Given the lack of an inverter in GPT's transcript there's no AC to invert.

sploosh ,

I agree. This should be called a honey sauce at best.

I drive a Chevy Bolt for work and RAM drivers routinely roll coal on me.

sploosh ,

No, I drive a Volt when I drive my Volt that I own. It is not quite the rocket-powered go-kart that tue Bolt is, but it's still quicker off the line than your average can and a lot of fun to drive. Chevy's hybrids and EVs are totally decent cars that cost very little to operate.

sploosh ,

Ford? If so I feel your pain. The controls for the ventilation in their infotainment system are godawful. The time between input and output is so long that you have to look down to hit the "button" to bring up the ventilation menu, look back to the road while it takes 2 literal seconds for the menu to pop up, then look back down to the diagram of the vents to decide what you want blowing or not blowing, hit the right "buttons" and then wait for the thing to respond and do what you asked. Meanwhile you've gone 1/4 mile at highway speeds with your eyes barely on the road.

What was wrong with a dial with all the possible vent combinations? I want the defroster on and I want hot air on my feet? That's at 7 o'clock. Just blast my face? 12 noon. It was simple, it worked. It did not require looking away from the road once you were familiar with it.

I own a launch era Switch. When I run Yuzu, I use the keys that I pulled off of it. When I play games in Yuzu, they are games I have purchased and dumped using the Switch Nintendo sold me. The controller I use is a Nintendo Pro controller. I play on my computer because it is MUCH better at playing Switch games than my overclocked Switch is. Just fuck off with this Nintendo, stop making your games worse.

sploosh ,

Your Switch needs to be hackable. If yours is any revision beyond the initial release chances are you are out of luck. I set it up a long while ago so I can't recall the steps, but googling "Nintendo switch overclock" will get you what you're looking for.

The Switch is based on the Nvidia Shield, whose stock clocks are roughly double the Switch's. This means you can OC it without exceeding the manufacturer's specs, which is pretty neat. Bringing the memory clocks up really helps titles like ToTK.

sploosh ,

It is dead simple, just make sure you get one of the little jobbies that you slide down the right joycon rail to short the pins that you need shorted - you'll be doing it often when you're setting things up and you don't want to be messing around with a bit of wire. I seriously doubt that you will brick anything, especially if you take your time and read everything through before you get started. These instructions should get you where you want to be.

My 7800xt pulls about 230 watts at full bore, giving me my monitor's refresh rate in FPS, 144. Limiting the framerate to 72 results in no tearing and drops the GPU watts to 170. Worth it.

sploosh ,

Longevity. I build a computer once every 6-10 years and don't do much upgrading in between. Buying a beefier GPU means it'll play new games well for a good long while.

And it's not like I'm doing this all the time. I was curious about the power usage, so I made a script to monitor it and starting tinkering with settings to see what the delta would be. I'm a 100% ultra, max resolution 95% of the time.

KWh is a measure of total energy, not instantaneous power. Your watt meter was saying that since last reset of the value it measured 40 KWh of energy use. That's not an insignificant amount - a Chevy Bolt can go around 180 miles on 40KWh.
Watts, or kilowatts, are instantaneous power. That same Bolt can easily pull 100KW while accelerating and if it could somehow do that for an hour, it would have used 100KWh. It could never make it the whole hour as it has a 65KWh battery, so it would run out after 39 minutes.

sploosh ,

Autocorrect seems to disagree, but autocorrect doesn't know shit about power vs energy. Fixed it.

So that rich asshole killed a bunch of developers' income streams because he checks notes is paid too much. What a greedly little pissboy the former mod of /r/jailbait is.

Don't buy an information vacuum if you don't want your data sucked up. Definitely don't buy multiple generations of information vacuum from the same company.

Bruh $200 for a show is still an absolute fleecing.

School districts buy Chromebooks by the thousands. Steam Deck is definitely paving the way in terms of demonstrating a consumer use case for Linux, but I would be shocked if there are even 1/100th the number of them in the wild as there are Chromebooks.

sploosh ,

Why would a washer need a dampness sensor? Making things wet is what it's supposed to do.

sploosh ,

Yo man let's not go crazy, $300 a year would be on the high end of acceptable for that. The costs to keep more data available when you own the licenses are quite low as a percentage of total operations, so keeping old content up should be the norm instead of something to be lauded. You don't get a cookie for base competency.

I long for the day that women are properly briefed on what the insertion process is like and that doctors give them sedatives for it. Everyone I know who has had one has said they love it but that the insertion process was much, much more painful than they had been told.
