What file format do you store your media in?

Hello! I recently listened to a podcast that talked about how storing media files in .av1 format is very efficient and storage-friendly. I've been storing my files in .mkv format, but now I'm considering using Handbrake or a similar service to convert all my video files to .av1 if it's more compressed than .mkv. So;...

tobogganablaze ,

.mkv is just a container and can contain any encode. All my av1 encodes are .mkv files.

But the majority of my videos are in h264 for compatability, though I've been adding more av1 and h265 encodes lateley. But storage isn't much of a concern for me.

Does a VPN used on a smartphone with Wi-Fi disabled (mobile data only enabled) provide any sort of protection?

I've never completely understood this, but I think the answer would probably be "no," although I'm not sure. Usually when I leave the house I turn off wifi and just use mobile data (this is a habit from my pre-VPN days), although I guess I should probably just keep it on since using strange Wi-Fi with a VPN is ok (unless someone...

I would stronly recommend that you set your wifi to only join trusted networks. That way you can also just leave the wifi on and not have it connect to every random network it encounters.

I pay $2800 a year to this company for Internet and TV

Did they connect your house with solid gold cables or what is this?

tobogganablaze ,

Oh that's supposed to stay attatched? Thought it was only to make sure that bottle was unopened. I always just rip it off.

tobogganablaze ,

Yeah, no. I'd rather use a clunky website in a browser then installing dozens of specific apps.

tobogganablaze ,

!reddit is probably more suited for complaining about reddit.

tobogganablaze ,

I'm so glad I'm stuck with a "your hardware doesn't support windows 11" message.

So which flag do you think should come up? The Ottoman's?

18+ What is white label wordpress development? (startrek.website)

White-label WordPress development refers to the process where a company (typically a web development or digital marketing agency) outsources WordPress website creation and development tasks to another company or a team of developers. These outsourced developers work under the hiring company's brand, meaning the end products—be...

Developers that still voluntarily want to deal with wordpress must be a special kind of masochist. It's such an utter clusterfuck.

tobogganablaze ,

It was a poor imitation done by a software. They didn't even bother copying the work themselves. This is the very opposite of creative.

tobogganablaze ,

you have to have complete trust in the service provider.

Not completley, there is 3rd party audit companies that can verify claims made by the VPN providers, like confirming no-log policy and such.

tobogganablaze ,

How do you trust the third parties?

How do you trust anyone? At some point you either do or don't, because it's just not possible to verify everything in your life.

The alternative would be not using an VPN and for me personally I trust my VPN provider a lot more than my luck of not getting chaught by chance.

tobogganablaze ,

Have you considered converting to AV1 instead of H265?

I have a similar issue with my mac+chrome having to convert H265 -> H264 (even though it should be able to play it), but it has no trouble direct-playing AV1 for some reason.

tobogganablaze ,

So install and updated it without going through the store apps ... you can download all the installers directly from their website. Absolute non-issue.

What's the real world connection speed from your residential IP to your Server?

I'm using contabo and the VPS I got is advertised as 1 Gigabit. When I do a speedtest or use iperf3 to connect to public servers I get pretty close to 1 Gigabit. But from my residential IP the speed drops down to 100-250 Mbit/s. My home internet connection can handle 500 Mbit just fine....

tobogganablaze ,

Pretty much a perfect 1 Gigabit, because that's my LAN speed and my server is at home :(
