Can you suggest a good write-up / walkthrough for how to shift to gaming on Linux? I've installed and run it before so I understand the basics, but that was basically just to keep an old laptop alive to watch YouTube.

Fucking Windows...just purchasing one big DIY spyware package these days.

Finally my Radeon works better out of the box than Nvidia? Amazing.

Glad to hear Mint is the way to go! That's the one I already have some very basic experience with.

Is Steam necessary? I also use GOG because I prefer no DRM, but maybe that's not possible in the same way? I'll Google this one too.

Thank you for your help! And for the confidence boost to think this might be more intuitive than I fear...

undercrust ,

Oh that looks great, thank you!

The information in the hallucinogenic section about acid flashbacks is incorrect. This was a false rumour spread in the 70s to demonize the political opponents of Nixon.

undercrust ,

Oh, HPPD is definitely a thing, but extraordinarily rare.

I may have misspoke about the brown acid - this was a legit warning resulting from "home-brew chemists" attempting to make their own LSD and failing to create it properly. Most of the supplies back then were direct from Sandoz (Novartis) and basically were being given away to the scientific community for novel testing. Fun stuff.

I'm talking about the hyperbole of "acid flashbacks" which was a narrative introduced to discourage and demonize LSD usage by the political and intellectual opponents of the Nixon administration. "Rots your brain permanently" and all that other garbage.

Turns out regular LSD usage by the "hippie" community and by many people involved in high-level education (particularly college and university professors) was making people feel more connected and empathetic towards one another, and that just didn't do for the Republicans who needed everyone to fear "the other".

What they also did with marijuana and heroin, and subsequently with crack cocaine, was truly abhorrent.

Sounds like a pretty big win to me? Who answers emails after hours, yuck

undercrust ,

Congrats! That sounds like a great change.

undercrust ,

The problem is it didn't happen suddenly 😭

This is our chance to make this person's dreams come alive by downvoting them into oblivion!

Soon as an independent firm chosen by the other parties releases a 10-year review of Pierre's porn history I'll think about supporting this.

Until then, I'll continue to hope that this milquetoast douche-eater gets hit by a bus.

Reddit: 'We Are in the Early Stages of Monetizing Our User Base' (www.404media.co)

Reddit said in a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission that its users’ posts are “a valuable source of conversation data and knowledge” that has been and will continue to be an important mechanism for training AI and large language models. The filing also states that the company believes “we are in the early...

No apology for Wyze's breach, but only 1500 of the possible alerts for not-your-home were clicked on/viewed. Gotta love sensational headlines.

Also, if you're using a cloud-based camera for private spaces? Well, that's kinda a decision you made for yourself.

Genuinely don't comprehend why anyone uses anything other than Firefox. FF + uBlock makes the internet so much better

Ahh, after all this time, the Socratic Method still reigns

Literally everyone. Have you been living under a rock?

undercrust ,

Sorry if I miscommunicated. No, they're not selling your home address. But the idea that they aren't monetizing your personal data aggressively is laughably wrong and heavily documented.

Since we're all dummies and you know the answers, please go ahead and explain how Google goes about selling heavily targeted ads to uniquely identifiable groups, but that they also are not "selling data".

Are we being massively pedantic and saying that it's not actual user data, but rather leveraging said data to sell ads to the anonymized targeted groups, who are actively tracked by Google around the internet so ads can be served up at opportune times in their browsing?

Because that dumb argument is like saying Oxford Dictionary doesn't sell words, they sell definitions; or that McDonalds doesn't sell beef, they sell hamburgers.
