I am far from unbiased as I just switched back to my pixel 4a from my new Sony Xperia. I think the Pixel 4a is a flat out GREAT phone, full stop. It is perfectly sized IMO, has been very reliable, good battery life (though at this point I should look into replacing the battery), and it has a headphone jack. That being said, picking it as a new phone now essentially means going with a custom rom and hoping it stays supported. That's fine and all, but it's not something most people want. Just to be clear, the xperia isn't a bad option per se, I only switched back because the phone came carrier locked when it was supposed to be unlocked and the carrier it was locked to was uncooperative so I refunded it.

Sadly agree, I've been looking for a proper successor with no luck.

zod000 ,

Most of the newer CPU's have an NPU already, Microsoft just set a higher performance requirement for NPUs to be officially labeled an "AI PC" which they are pushing hard.

zod000 ,

My experience was similar, but I gave up after my first RMA because I saw everyone else going through the same thing. The N7 started as such a delight and ended up as one of worst product experiences.

For real, how is it that Brother makes the only printer that everything from my phone to my servers can use without problems. Bonus points for not gouging on toner.

My friend has probably this exact TV in their family home until probably the early 2000s. I bet it was because no one wanted to move it.

PopOS has been running games fine on my 3070 for many years at this point. It might be worth another try.

zod000 ,

It could be Wayland issues with Nvidia, I use three higher res monitors, but only 60Hz in X11.

Yeah, the only well known Satanic metal guy that I am positive "walks the walk" is Glen Benton from Deicide. Also he's a total dick.

People are making some better recommendations, but I haven't seen some of my favorites mentioned at all.

Here's my top three:

  1. 8MM
  2. Kiss of Death
  3. Color Out of Space

Roku TV bricked until agreeing to new terms of service

See title - very frustrating. There is no way to continue to use the TV without agreeing to the terms. I couldn't use different inputs, or even go to settings from the home screen and disconnect from the internet to disable their services. If I don't agree to their terms, then I don't get access to their new products. That...

I've owned multiple Sceptres and the only thing that ever broke for me was button related (on both the remotes and TV itself). You'd think buttons would be a solved problem, but I've owned three of those TVs because of the price (SmartTVs were not universal then).

That all being said, the displays themselves are mediocre and the speakers are weak and poor quality. The quality is probably right in line with the price, but if you're coming from a higher end TV, it will be noticeable. I always had to use speakers or a soundbar to get acceptable quality sound, the display you get used to pretty quickly.

Assuming Sceptre still makes dumb TVs by then, I'll probably switch back to them when mine either die or LG crosses some red lines.

zod000 ,

LG have started sending some bullshit major updates to both of my TVs recently. The whole "home" interface is now sluggish and full of video heavy garbage I don't want to see. They are still better than some smart platforms (looking at you Vizio, Samsung, and Roku), but I am far less pleased with them than I used to be.

zod000 ,

A good cross platform user friendly client goes a long way, especially having a good desktop version.

I've been there and it almost killed me. It wasn't money that got me (that much), but the lack of time and sleep. I'd live by vending machine junk and naps in the car between jobs.

zod000 ,

You aren't getting a "pretty good" gaming PC for $600-$700, be serious now. That doesn't invalidate most of your other points, but your exaggerations weaken your message.

zod000 ,

Since you're serious, I'd be very curious to see the part list for this if you have the time. I am quite aware of current prices and GPU prices are currently still rather bonkers, even with sales.

zod000 ,

That's very impressive for that price, though I am highly skeptical of those framerates since my PC has better specs and doesn't get that without some serious compromises in settings. How are you getting a Windows Pro license for $19? I use linux 99% of the time, but I'd love to have a pro license on the cheap.

The 90s Scooby Doo cartoons were pretty awful cash grabs and a far cry from even the first, what 3-4 Scooby shows. Everything from Scrappy Doo until the 2000s reboot (Mystery Inc, which my kids LOVED) was junk.
