This but replace the comic book with a game box labeled Zelda, put Nintendo on the artist’s shirt, and instead of Sunday, the guy mentions piracy.

"I would rather brick us both into a Tomb of unsold comics and set it on fire than give you a discount!"

Sunday: "I sold out of the $10 comics, but the $150 edition is 90% off right now since I'm packing up."

Someone needs to say this to every person who uses the phrase "I never pay full price" for anything lol

It always sounds so smug!

Deceptichum ,
@Deceptichum@sh.itjust.works avatar

Or it means we’re so poor we can’t afford to not buy things on discount

MrJameGumb ,
@MrJameGumb@lemmy.world avatar

Fair enough, but people who can't afford full price don't generally proudly announce that they "never pay full price", they usually just haggle and dont make a big deal about it. The people who announce it are generally just entitled assholes who want something for free.

Moobythegoldensock ,

It’s code for “I can’t do any price discrimination on my own and rely on the seller telling me they’re giving me a good deal.”

In sales in the trades there’s a saying that 33% of people always buy no matter what, 33% need to be convinced and shown the value of what you’re offering, and 33% are too cheap and are usually considered bad money. That bad 33% cause the most warranty calls/issues, are generally a customer service time/money sink, and are often abusive.

rant

Ex. Realtors fall into that bad 33%. Often short with CSRs to the point of being abusive, want quick service because the buyer typically requests an HVAC/plumbing/electrical inspection at the last minute, and are CHEAP. We have a special price code just for them called real estate inspection. It’s 7x higher than the typical residential inspection fee because those assholes aren’t worth dealing with unless they’re paying through the nose.

Yes, I realize not all realtors are jackasses. We have 2 out of all of the ones that want our service that we have no problem charging the lower rate to because they treat our employees with respect.

I read that as redditors and was so confused

People like this are why prices are "$20 slashed 50% off"

Landless2029 ,

The American shoe store Payless tried to get away from this crap.

They stopped doing the raise and lower price model everyone else does and lowered all shoes to '"everyday low prices"

It failed horribly. They went back to raising prices and slashing prices and sales went up again.

It has to do with the shopper mindset. Everyone wants a deal.

JC Penny also had the same problem. My wife knows they do this and it still works on her.

dirtySourdough ,

I don't understand this, honestly. I look at the final price of something regardless of whether or not it's on sale and think to myself "Is this a reasonable price for this item? Is it something I actually want/need and will use?" If I answer no to either I usually don't buy it.

KevonLooney ,

You do understand it. There's an extra mental benefit to "getting a deal", so when you're weighing the pros and cons that's another thing in the "pro" column. Also, people subconsciously think expensive items are better. So this combination of higher original price and high discount makes you think you're getting a good quality item at a deal.

You are not immune unless you do a lot of garment making and can tell the actual time and effort that went into the item you're looking at.

Sunday:

The booth is closed because the product has sold out.

He tracks the artist down at another event and demands to buy a comic for cheap.

"Oh, sorry sir, I already sold all of them. It's on back-order. The price plus shipping is $15."

lowleveldata , (edited )

He wants to read your comic so bad he's scheduling a Sunday to buy it. That's something.

NeutralFlame ,

In a way it goes to show that he has lot of time to spend just not a lot of cash or an unwillingness to spend it

Retirees in a nutshell.

Or that he's planning to flip it for a profit.
