Rather angry at my congressional representative for being completely silent since yesterday’s disastrous Supreme Court ruling. I gave their office a call to ask them to support articles of impeachment against all 6 justices who agreed with the majority and to support expansion of the court.
Please do the same. Call your representatives! We need to push hard to get our representatives to act swiftly and forcefully. Even if the vote will fail the first time; that’s not even the point. Waiting for November is not an option.
It won’t happen quickly—and with Republicans in power it won’t happen at all—but we need to begin taking power from our rogue Supreme Court. Like this: https://hci.social/@bkeegan/112718009105258956
@JamesGleick What's weird is that this will be seen as a partisan attack. When it actually applies to everyone equally. But that's the point and a big part of the problem.
I'm experimenting with https://honkasaurus.world which lets me use an identity on my own website without needing to host Mastodon myself. The hope is this way I don't have to move identities if want to switch my Mastodon host. Janky but promising so far!
This one's for the "nice liberals" who think gender stuff is just "too political".
Tough shit.
When you're in a position of influence in a community, then everything you do shapes the community. If you got this far by ignoring a social justice topic, good for you I guess. But you fucked up. There is no neutral position. Either you welcome marginalized people, or you welcome the people who want to keep them in the margins. You can't do both.
Today we're launching a new #Mastodon feature that will highlight writers and journalists that are active on the fediverse when their their articles are being shared.
Know what would destroy the Roberts Court faster than anything? A Judges' Revolt.
If I were a federal judge, I'd decline to honor any of the controversial Roberts Court decisions. I'd openly say, "that decision is not good law because the Court as currently constituted is corrupt and illegitimate, and to follow its decrees would be to violate my oath to the Constitution."
Impeach me. Do it. See if you can get the Senate votes. Otherwise, I'm appointed for life. Now imagine if dozens of federal judges, trial and appellate, did the same thing.
@JamesGleick You know, it's a shame; you see, Adam Serwer's sewery surname from Surinam is just THAT close to being a perfectly apt adjective for the dreck-pap-screed he penned; and, more broadly, for that long-pustulent Pravda of propaganda rag he works for.
“The President, who exercises a limited power, may err without causing great mischief in the State. Congress may decide amiss without destroying the Union, because the electoral body in which Congress originates may cause it to retract its decision by changing its members. But if the Supreme Court is ever composed of imprudent men or bad citizens, the Union may be plunged into anarchy or civil war.” - Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America, 1831
