  • Aleric , to Technology in How a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet From Hell Slowed Williams' F1 Cars For Years

Indeed, I'm pushing for SQL but work in a field that sees Excel as a huge improvement over past practices. They're about one step removed from writing on toilet paper.

My original career was in a much more data intensive field, so I've become "that guy" regarding proper data storage and hygiene. Case in point: we sit directly next to IT. Every time we talk about data collection, I'll get up on my SQL soap box and one of the IT folks will let out a comical groan.

100%, excel is great for spreadsheets and garbage as a database, yet so many people keep using it as a database. I'm currently pushing for my department to transition their many "excel databases" to proper databases and I'm getting mass surprised Pikachu face because no one else knows they're not the same.

I never understand why people think whataboutism arguments actually mean anything. Do they do this at home too? When their significant other suggests they need to do a better job picking up after themselves, is their first response about how the neighbour across the way is a bit messy so it doesn't matter?

You've got a little shoe polish on your teeth, boot licker.

  • Aleric , to 196 in elite gaming rule

I've had three gaming PCs and spent maybe $10K in computer parts in the last fifteen years. I know I've definitely saved more than that versus having a console.

Aleric , to Fuck Cars in Higher Vehicle Hoods Increase Pedestrian Deaths

I feel you. We need a truck for occasional use, so we got a high mileage retired work truck for really cheap. It's bare bones with manual windows and no power locks but it has dual rear tires and a flatbed, so it's perfect for when we or a neighbor needs to haul big shit. Unfortunately, so many people now assume I'm a dick size compensating fascist on the rare occasions I drive it. My wife and I are thinking of getting the cab wrapped in a rainbow with a big purple, glittery unicorn right across the hood.

You work with my wife? Thanks for taking care of her!

Aleric , to Technology in DRAM And NAND Chip Makers Are Determined To Drive Up DDR5 And SSD Prices

Ahhh, the old "I know nothing about what I'm talking about so I'm going to keep making things up" defense. Classic move and stunningly performed. I can tell you have practice.

Aleric , to Technology in DRAM And NAND Chip Makers Are Determined To Drive Up DDR5 And SSD Prices

Dictators and authoritarianism get you killed. Some capitalist countries have also have these things and, oddly enough, people also die for the same reasons. Could it be... the economic model actually isn't the issue?

Aleric , to Mildly Infuriating in The way this is written out really irks me.

I drive a Prius and have a very long commute which goes through a rather conservative area. My existence inadvertently pisses off so many big truck drivers. I'll never understand why some people need to speed up and pass me immediately after I've passed them. It's not a competition!
