My mom and I beat the game after about a million runs when it came out. I still have flashbacks to the boomboxes and muffins.

BigPotato ,

Eh, Americans got that 24 hour news cycle brain. You can just admit to all the war crimes and not have to hide them for 50 years.

My Dell XPS 13 (Windows) will kill it's battery if you look at it funny... Or don't look at it at all.

One time, I fully shut down the laptop and put it in my carry-on.

When I took it out after my flight, my bag was suspiciously warm and the battery was fully dead. Power management on Linux might be a joke but Dell is certainly the Carlos Mencía of the comedy club. At least I know my enemy now though. I unplug the battery to turn it 'off'.

I mean, Fossil ended support for my Gen 5 a while back and... It still works. I mean, I mostly use it as an alarm and "ability to feel my phone vibrate when ringing" machine but it still operates...

Until it doesn't, I guess. The battery life is already shit and I'm jealous of my partner's Garmin.

Take CapCut off because it's more like TikTok editing than video editing.

Divinci has a learning curve but any curve is better than learning solely on a ByteDance owned product.

Linus Tech Tips (LTT) release investigation results on former accusations (x.com)

There were a series of accusations about our company last August from a former employee. Immediately following these accusations, LMG hired Roper Greyell - a large Vancouver-based law firm specializing in labor and employment law, to conduct a third-party investigation. Their website describes them as “one of the largest...

It's entirely possible that literally everything she claimed was false or exaggerated but there's still enough evidence of Linus acting less than decently on the WAN show with regard to his other actions that cast doubt.

The man who took another company's prototype and auctioned it off then claimed that they already had an agreement before contacting them somehow had zero evidence of abuse of power? We should assume that his willingness to abuse his power ends at his businesses doorstep because some of his co-workers are decent people?

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year (www.billboard.com)

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

BigPotato ,

I dunno. Spotify stopped billing me for the family plan I was paying for some years ago and at this point I've got five accounts mooching off of them and I'm using powershell to download gigabytes worth of music off of them...

Like, Spotify is evil but at this point I'm a negative number for them every month. I'm gonna keep on going until they decide to shut off the hose.

Oh, but I do go to concerts and buy records.

BigPotato ,

Shoot man, you gotta think about it the other way. Show them a mobile game, show them the prices, then turn around and show them purchasing power.

For instance, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp. Cute, aimed at kids, horrible leaf ticket practices. Broke down the pricing of one set and for the cost of ACNL and a 2DSXL - you've got something like a 0.8% chance of getting the whole set.

So, show that to a kid, do you want a 0.8% chance of having this set or a whole Game and System?

Granted, this was a while back - the price of those two together probably gets you a 2% chance these days.

BigPotato ,

The usual, I would but games (and proprietary software for work)

I run a Linux machine literally next to my Windows desktop and yeah it's 98% for my daily usually but that's still a week worth of "Not working" for my year.

Fallout 3 was hard enough to get working on Windows many moons ago but even with all the "Use Lutris" or "Use Heroic" cries, it'd be easier to run a whole Windows VM than to get it running natively and in the forty minutes of time I have to game, I'd rather just play the game sometimes.

So, if I have to play in their Sandbox, I'm gonna shit in it first so they don't try to come play too.

Plus, VR and all that.

Build your own drone. Don't bother paying the DJI markup when you can get a full frame mirrorless on a bunch of wood with brushless motors attached.

Maybe an AI could design a better Alienware case?

Music Piracy Is Back, Baby (gizmodo.com)

"Muso, a research firm that studies piracy, concluded that the high prices of streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music are pushing people back towards illegal downloads. Spotify raised its prices by one dollar last year to $10.99 a month, the same price as Apple Music. Instead of coughing up $132 a year, more consumers...

BigPotato ,

Even the Spotify downloaders are meh. I get so many errors on the few I've tried.

If you get any good recommendations, let me know.

BigPotato ,

I mean, you just have to learn everything mp3 formats and go pass the What.cd test and you're good.

BigPotato ,

I would like an electric 2004 Dodge Neon...

Does China have that? Not like in build quality, I know they're trash, just that exact car.

BigPotato ,

You're thinking about this too productively. I have forty tabs open because I'll get to it later and every time I see my fifty tabs it's a reminder to get stuff done. Then I close a few tabs, look at the other seventy and feel a sense of accomplishment!

It's not because I have a semi-crippling executive function disorder that I pretend is just a curiosity about the world and a love for learning.

BigPotato ,

I never had a problem verifying on Firefox a few years back so maybe it's a more recent bug?
