This is my fourth profile on the Fediverse lol. This time, I'm hoping Mbin is where I stay!

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

Man, I love Debian. It's not the sexiest distro, but it gets the job done damn well

The Linux Experiment is regularly sponsored by some of them (IE Tuxedo)

The really irritating part is that tools like Playwright let you end-to-end test your product across the big three (Chromium, Firefox and Webkit). Which, most of the time, means these products that specify "Chrome only" simply aren't E2E testing with modern tools.

Us kbin / mbin peeps also have to cope with the fact that we have the worst image viewer of any social media ever on mobile. There isn't a save button, if you click the image it zooms absurdly close and you can't even zoom back out. You're left way too close to the image.

You technically can through federation but it's missing certain features (due to it being a Lemmy client). It's like viewing Lemmy posts via Mastodon

Definitely thought that was Chrono at first

Blow-hi was how I thought it was pronounced (sorry, I would do the IPA, but I'm lazy)

Any duck duck go alternative that is better in privacy and security ?

I have always liked and used Duck duck go more than google but now i am considering if i should switch because of the shit they pulled with their app and yesterday when i clicked a link it took me directly to their newsletter subsciption page not even like a popup a proper page without any way except manually backing out . So is...

EDIT: Fake screenshot about some facts from the Palworld development, very loosely based on a really interesting blog post from the dev that's linked in the post body. (programming.dev)

UPDATE: So, apparently it's mostly fake, taken from this article [translation] (where they even mention some kind of VCS)....

Version Control System - something like Git, Subversion, Unity Teams' VCS, etc.

Could probably try spoofing the user-agent of you really need to use their service (I mean, I wouldn't, this is wholly unethical). The Floorp browser (a fork of Firefox) comes with the ability to spoof to other browsers easily

BiggestBulb ,
@BiggestBulb@kbin.run avatar

That is indeed what I meant (since they block the viewers based on browser haha)

As an engineer with a boss I really do not like and who makes moronic decisions ALL the time (that I then have to go along with), I agree

If you happen to be new to Linux, do yourself a favor and start on Linux Mint.

There are no snaps, you can still install pretty much everything you can with Ubuntu, the Cinnamon Desktop is nice (better than Gnome in my opinion, but then again, I haven't used Gnome that much) and you don't have to deal with ads in the terminal. Mint is the distro most people should start on.

Apple Vision Pro launch pre-view testers complain about weight, comfort, even headaches::Reporters given pre-launch access to the new Apple Vision Pro have reported concerns with its weight and comfort, with at least two writers reporting notable discomfort using it. While there are undoubtedly positive experiences to be had...

Not shocked about the headaches (happens with most of the headsets), but I'm a little sad about the weight issues. That sucks - I'm an Android user but I was hoping Apple doing this would lead to some Android development in the same space

BiggestBulb ,
@BiggestBulb@kbin.run avatar

Pretty much - or Samsung, Xiaomi, Nothing or any of the other Android brands

BiggestBulb ,
@BiggestBulb@kbin.run avatar

I guess I'm moreso hoping the brands get in - specifically Samsung, Google and the others I listed. I think it would spur on a lot of new development in that area which is always a good thing

Hearing this sort of stuff before is why I just chose to use WSL with my Lenovo Legion. Especially since mine has an RTX card in it

Being real, why DON'T distros just have the ability to do the installation if you double-click whatever file is downloaded?

I feel like we should have either option - download and double-click or just use the command line.

I mean, what else would double-clicking a .tar.gz file or an appimage do than install it (yes, I know, look into the archive, but really - how often is that the desired thing to do)? So, therefore, why don't we just have it install the files that are downloaded?

This is a legit question btw, I really don't know the answer
