Some cars aren't quite that simple, on newer models they're hiding the keyhole on the bottom side of the handle behind a cover. But usually those models won't lock with the keys inside the car

Cort ,

The average real-world electric driving share is about 45%–49% for private (phev) cars and about 11%–15% for company cars

45-49% on privately owned cars isn't rarely, but 10-15% on the corporate side totally is. However I can also understand employees not wanting to give their company free electricity every night, while simultaneously companies do not have plans in place for employees to charge at work.

Company purchasing managers would be better off just buying regular hybrids if they're not going to set up a plan to keep these charged, otherwise they'll never get the financial benefits that sold them on the phev in the first place.

Cort ,

And not even Google's own Google voice supports RCS yet

Cort ,

While acknowledging your probably right about its future prospects for longevity, I really hope you're wrong. Maybe they can roll it into Google Fi wireless mvno but it'll probably end up in the graveyard like Google pay 2.0, among many others

Cort ,

I think technically op may be correct, as being banned from an industry is different from the business firing them. And probation isn't jail time

Cort ,

My 2016 Ford did record data on hard stops and high-g turns and sent a report to my phone to help improve driving efficiency. It was an opt in feature and promoted as a way to increase range since it was a hybrid. However all that stopped when the 3g network was shut down and ford decided they wanted to charge 2k for a 4g upgrade

Cort ,

And inertia. Same reason x86/64 is still the king. Nobody wants to update their software to a new architecture

Cort ,

I also suspect vibration from the motor may make camera/vision based triangulation more difficult.

Cort ,

Only thing I can think of to make this a trap is if some company has a legal requirement to report the digital intrusion and didn't.

Cort ,

Seems like an attempt at a covert ad

Cort ,

Pshaw, if it's not from the Gabon region of Africa it's just sparkling nuclear reactor

Cort ,

I think exclusive content is only a symptom of the larger problem, which is that we're letting movie production companies run their own (new-fangled versions of) theaters again.

Cort ,

Does Wi-Fi 7 have the same restrictions on AP mode for these cards as wifi 6e?

Cort ,

I would love confirmation but I'm assuming they are also restricted due to 6ghz license holders

Cort ,

I could see that happening if these are used in gas hybrid cars, or ev taxis, or maybe grid scale energy buffering

Cort ,

It'll even play videos that are actively downloading

Cort ,

Boris: Don't you know who I am?!?

Poll worker: no sir, you don't have ID.

Cort ,

Yeah just need 10Mw+ of solar and like 40mwh of batteries to power it 24/7

Cort ,

Building a cannon to shoot for the moon

Cort ,

Plus the batteries, unless you only want to run the thing while the sun is up

Cort ,

I think that sounds more like a feudal fiefdom than communism

Cort ,

Yeah from what I've seen of Jeff geerling's testing it can use all of a 2.5g and about 3.5 of a 5gbit adapter

Cort ,

What we need is normal roads with barriers blocking off cars from entering.

Bikes are cars.

So pedestrians only on these roads? Like a sidewalk?

Or are you saying bikes should be treated JUST like cars, except better, with routes that exclude cars?

It sounds like what you want is separated, protected, raised bicycle lanes.

And I'm no fan of rising on the sidewalks, but cycling is literally one of the uses for a mixed use trail.

'Vortex Cannon vs Drone' - Mark Rober shows off tech from a "defense technology company that specializes in advanced autonomous systems". That seems bad

I've enjoyed Mark Rober's videos for a while now. They are fun, touch on accessible topics, and have decent production value. But this recent video isn't sitting right with me...

Cort ,

I think fear is fairly subjective, and to me these are scarier than bombs and guns. Bombs have a blast radius and bullets don't stop after they hit their target, which means collateral damage has to be considered before using these. If you don't have to worry about that because you're going to just drop an anvil on someone's head it would make it that much easier to order someone's death.

Like yeah you're probably not going to see any mass killings with these drones, but it certainly makes individual targeted killings easier.

Looking for the Perfect USB Flash Drive

I've been using some cheap flash drives for things like installing OSs and the like, but now I've picked up a Dell Wyse 3040 system to play with which only has 8gb of storage. So I'm installing the OS onto a flash drive permanently (don't worry, just for messing with, nothing of value will be lost if/when the drive craps out)....

Cort ,

You could go with a 2.5in SSD in a USB enclosure. I think OP was just suggesting this as the highest performance option.

Cort ,

Not disagreeing, because you're right that the differences you'd see are minimal, but did want to add that latency & random I/o is better on most nvme than most SATA SSD. And that would be somewhat beneficial for an OS drive in my opinion. But the difference would probably not be noticeable, as you said.

Cort ,

I've seen the video before, but only now realized that the logo on his shirt says 'just cars'

Cort ,

cruising doing like 95mph. For reference I'm in summer sports tires and this is a very reasonable speed for this vehicle assuming you aren't around others

Max speed limit in the US of A is 85mph so that is in fact not a reasonable speed.

If you wanna drive your fancy Porsche fast take it to a closed track you absolute piece of shit

Cort ,

They're fine until they get off track with the page perforations. And the ribbons last quite a while, but are technically a security risk

Cort ,

I even recall a time I negotiated back and forth on Sedo to buy a domain name, and it turned out the seller didn’t own the domain.

I'm sorry, how is this NOT fraud?

I agree with OP. Domains should just expire if they're not renewed.

And honestly, I'm against the hoarding and resale of them too. They're a finite resource and should be limited to a fixed number per human being. And only transferred for free not resold.

Cort ,

I think it could be accomplished. If any income from the sale or transfer of a domain, above the standard registration fees, is taxed at 100% that would stop most, especially businesses. No it wouldn't be perfect, but no tax system is.

Cort ,

While you're technically correct (the best kind) I'd still argue that the subset of finite addresses that are human readable and relayable is significantly smaller. If you disagree just fill out a form on my website:

Market is down: bear/bare market

Market is up: bull market.

It's just the name we use to describe market conditions

Cort ,

Not with a net, you'd need something sturdy and not full of holes to catch the turds

Cort ,

Oh God, now they're stealing milk too?

Cort ,

One lane of pcie. Gen 2 for raspberry pi. Maybe gen 3 for other boards. So, 5-8gbit/s total. Compared to SATA 3 which is 6gbit/s, and there are 5 of those if the esata* port can go that fast.

Cort ,

He doesn't think, therefore he isn't?

Cort ,

Lmfao, not to mention that sticks are the very bottom of the tech tree

Cort ,

I'm genuinely curious too. Was there a big update? Bad interaction with the new plasma? I know they added av1 last year but I looked like a week ago and atsc 3.0 and ac4 audio still didn't work.

Cort ,

Lol, that's just how Antenna man has always done thumbnails. As a semi-regular viewer, I can say the interview with the small broadcaster really elevates this video above most of his other content. It's a pretty fantastic and informative video.

Cort ,

I think that's a big if. With their (generally) shorter life expectancy they have to be half to a third of the cost of silicon panels to break even on a 20yr panel life. And that's not including the labor to replace them.

Cort ,

Maybe learning a new language, but their post history appears to be all in English. Then again, they're also posting on 5+ month old threads about the war in Ukraine, so Russian troll maybe?

Cort ,

Huh, I thought pagers were still a thing in medicine/hospitals.

Cort ,

Oh no, looks like someone hasn't learned to count to schfifty-five

Cort ,

I do not, personally, suffer this malady

Um actually it's spelled m'lady. /s

[OC] Anyone else insist on using the generic name for all meds? (lemmy.world)

Image: 4 panels organized in a rectangle following a sequential order like a comic strip. The first panel is of a man with a very serious face stating, "Hey man, got any diphenhydramine?" The second panel is a grainy picture of the actor Robert Downey Jr. with a slightly inquisitive face and saying, "What's that?" The third...

Cort ,

I think genericide should be more common in today's world. And everyone can work together to achieve it
