Keep firing tech people, the tech peiple will have to find an hobby

Cosmicomical ,

If less people like you voted for trump, he wouldn't have to negotiate with those assholes

Cosmicomical ,

You are deranged

Cosmicomical ,

When the opponent is a nazi, not being like them is a good political program

Cosmicomical ,

What does this have to do with the question?
Having samples of the data they want to compress is fundamental if you hope to find an algorythm to compress 200x.

Cosmicomical ,

just have to tell them the prompt, along with a few variables

Before you can do that, you have to spend hours of computation to figure out a prompt and a set of variables that perfectly match the picture you want to transmit.

Cosmicomical ,

You are removing the most computationally intensive part of the process in your example, that's making it sound easy, while adding it back shows that your process is not practical.

Cosmicomical ,

I'm sure the basilisk will see through all this bootlicking.

Cosmicomical ,

Did he just invent self-hosting?

Cosmicomical ,

I know but I'm sure he's just throwing words around, what he meant is "gigafactory of COMPUTERS"

Cosmicomical ,

Don't forget also the male morning-after pill: you take it the next day, it changes your blood group

Cosmicomical ,

You are aware that the "crypto" part of cryptocurrency is short for cryptographic, right?

Cosmicomical ,

Ah ok, sorry

Cosmicomical ,

In that case you replace the part that died, instead of throwing away everything. (see Hulk meme)

A product you were just talking about pops up in an online ad. How? Advertising algorithms are so good that they may know what you want even before you do. C...

Cosmicomical ,

Ah ok, thank you for clarifying, that's not creepy at all

Cosmicomical ,

Lol, but on a serious note if they ask you that question it 100% means the workplace is toxic

Cosmicomical ,

Aww, so funny. Lemmy ha 2% posts by linux enthusiasts and 98% posts trying to make fun of linux enthusiasts. It stopped being fun months ago.

X automatically changed 'Twitter' to 'X' in domain names, breaking legit URLs (mashable.com)

On Monday, it appears X attempted to encourage users to cease referring to it as Twitter and instead adopt the name X. Some users began noticing that posts viewed via X for iOS were changing any references of "Twitter.com" to "X.com" automatically....

Msn messenger was perfectly fine, until people left me alone on there to join bloody skype

Cosmicomical ,

Also it's not really a brand, it's just a fucking letter of the alphabet. It shouldn't be possible to trademark letters of the alphabet. Basic decency, people

Cosmicomical ,

Exactly. Believe it or not, someone invented that word at some point in history. And it wasn't google.

Cosmicomical ,

Ok i see someone of us needs a refresher on the concept of invention

Cosmicomical ,

Sure but that didn't save you from skype either, i guess :'-/

Israel quietly rolled out a mass facial recognition program in the Gaza Strip (www.theverge.com)

Israel has deployed a mass facial recognition program in the Gaza Strip, creating a database of Palestinians without their knowledge or consent, The New York Times reports. The program, which was created after the October 7th attacks, uses technology from Google Photos as well as a custom tool built by the Tel Aviv-based company...

I see that the deadline for skynet in 2029 is more realistic every day

Cosmicomical ,

what kind of logic is that? A small victory is better than no victory

Cosmicomical ,

Yeah well let's start checking it real quick

Cosmicomical ,

Please just stop

Cosmicomical ,

Owning a gun makes you more likely to die by gun accident or by that gun being used against you. You logic is completely wrong.

Cosmicomical ,

Let me mansplain this.

There are 2 main ways to alter the way llms like chatgpt respond: 1) training & fine-tuning and 2) prompting.

Prompting means feeding the LLM information in the form of text, so it has actual stuff in what you could call its "short-term memory". That can be done interactively and only allows you to feed it a limited number of words.

Training and tuning are much slower processes and are used to build up and refine the "long-term" memory and to give importance and detail to specific topics, or to reinforce some kind of trait, like tone or type of answers it can produce.

I'm pretty sure what ibm and nasa did was a round of fine-tuning with material in that area of knowledge, not just prompting.

Cosmicomical ,

I would suggest you to look at one of the videos where they explain all the exploits used in a world record speed-run. That really helped me understand what's going on in that world. It involves much more investigation, preparation and physical skill than you may expect.

Cosmicomical ,

You are right, we should tax capital gains drastically so to disincentivise speculation, and force investor to rely on dividends. This would put a stop on the crazy run for growth we are experiencing as companies try to make their market valuation go up in this unsustainable eternal race to the top.

Cosmicomical ,

Lol sure. First of all "lobby" is a very transparent euphemism for "bribe". In second place the lack of proper rules in the US is creating behemoths that are very difficult to deal wIth. These companies are richer than nations and will be impossible to contain.

Cosmicomical ,

IE sucked since the beginning, that's not the reason it died.

Cosmicomical ,

Well not spyware per se but over the years they found over and over bugs which are really just highways left open in your system ready to be exploited. But to be honest that's not limited to windows.

Cosmicomical ,

Why do i have he impression that problems only get solved if the solution doesn't damage a specific class of people?

EU Commission fines Apple over €1.8 billion over abusive App store rules for music streaming providers (ec.europa.eu)

The European Commission has fined Apple over €1.8 billion for abusing its dominant position on the market for the distribution of music streaming apps to iPhone and iPad users (‘iOS users') through its App Store. In particular, the Commission found that Apple applied restrictions on app developers preventing them from...

Cosmicomical ,

"Their" is the keyword here, they think they own the users

Cosmicomical ,

Good metaphor, and their argument is "but we are also paying the gasoline". Still sounds like slavery with extra steps.

Cosmicomical ,

I think it's time for an open source 2d printer project, we have open source 3d printers and the technology is much more complex than 2d. Time to put HP to sleep

Cosmicomical ,

I'm sure there would be workaounds to that, also I'm not selling anything, just sharing a project and list of components. i'm not a lawyer but i'm pretty sure there's nothing they can do to stop me

Cosmicomical ,

Even if what you said was true, i think the better choice would be to go in the direction of simplicity, not the direction that favours segregation.

Cosmicomical ,

Plot twist, downstairs there is a fantastic free access party

Cosmicomical ,

How comes I never saw that implemented, then? Progressive taxation stops "progressing" at around the 100k threshold and that's basically just a decent salary. The Rich are never really affected by it.

Carbon credits would be a way to level the ground in some situations and could give you a right to say NO to people consuming more than their share, or at least account for externalities and get paid if you allow them to use your "quota".

Cosmicomical ,

So it's not so easy to implement after all
