This is a bit of a side note but I remembered you were looking for things to do while you were in MN a while back. If you still are, the National Eagle Center is always fun to visit. It's in Wabasha which is almost exactly an hour drive from Rochester. It's also probably a better place to pick up souvenirs.

You need some sort of licensing to do most HVAC work anyways. Theres no point in forcing companies to make all the parts available to the average joe when the average joe can't legally do the work anyways.

You would think that but where I work we are still manufacturing NEW equipment with GPIB. Industry moves at a glacial pace and plenty of compainies will still pay to have GPIB as an option.

Fir is used in the US (most commonly in the pacific northwest), it's just typically used for outdoor construction because it doesn't warp as easily and holds up far better outdoors than pine. So you will frequently see it used as decking, fences, or siding (although wood siding is getting pretty uncommon).

Fir is also sometimes used for framing like pine is but pine is usually cheaper. The only advantage fir has over pine for framing is that it tends to be a bit stronger. But there are very few places where you need that extra material strength and can't just use slightly more reinforced pine construction to acheive the same result.

Exactly. The level scaling in particular is what killed it for me. What is the point of even having a level up mechanic if your character doesn't actually get any stronger. Part of the fun of D2 was getting a character to a point where you could just stomp previous areas.

lemmy.ml has some absolutely draconian censorship. The word that was censored was probably b.u.l.l.s.h.i.t. (hopefullly it doesnt catch that). It's also quickly going full blown tankie.

If you want an instance that doesn't censor stuff like a club penguin chat and isn't run by people who regard Joseph Stalin as their personal hero then a good one to try is sh.itjust.works. I only use lemmy.world because it's the only one I could sign up for when I did. If I signed up now then I would probably go for sh.itjust.works or lemmy.dbzer0.com.

Nope. Youtube ads are served from the same domains as the videos so there is nothing you can to to block them via DNS. Your best bet is just installing Ublock for them. Now a days an ad blocker is a security necessity anyways.

I actually really like the unified remote app. It lets you use your phone as a remote for any computer on the same network. I think the premium version just lets you link more computers otherwise the free version is just as good.

Also yes, imprisoning a civilian population in a location and then bombing that location is genocide. They are clearly and deliberately exterminating civilians. The fact that we didn't remove all support the instant they started doing that is appalling.

Also before you even start with the whole "hamas is using the cavilians as human shields." Yes, they are. But that doesn't mean Israels solution of "kill them all and let god sort them out" is remotely acceptable.

Dam based hydro is way worse for the environment than nuclear. Nuclear is also safer than dam based hydro.

Pretty sure tidal is still safer and more environmentally friendly but you can't really use tidal just anywhere.
