I am starting to think google put this up on purpose to destroy people's opinion on AI. They are so much behind Open AI that they would benefit from it.

Hotzilla ,

It is possible to happen without any 4D chess thinking, they try, they realize that they failed, but they realize that they win here either way.

This shit is so bad that even a blind guy can see it.

Hotzilla ,

Yes, because this whole thing is incredible stupid, that how could they not see it? Saying of course is that "never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence", but holy shit how incompetent this 2 trillion dollar company was.

Hotzilla ,

He wants to cash out before Tesla will crash and burn. Predictions are that Tesla is bankrupt in 5 years.

Hotzilla ,

I refuse to use discord, it is basically malware. Selfhosting is the only way, and TS3 works great for that.

Hotzilla ,

Yes, but free

Hotzilla ,

Huge RAM usage, wierd crashes, causes random lag in games, constant enshittification on-going. No thanks.

Hotzilla ,

Not everything has to be foss, it is in company's best interest to not make it as malware. In last 20 years that I have had TS installed on my server and client, have I had it act like malware. Discord in the other hand has instantly caused issues. Not saying that TS3 doesn't have had bugs, ofc it has had.

Hotzilla ,

I know that discord is doing bad shit, so yes.

How often you read the source codes of your tool?

Hotzilla ,

hyperbole, ever heard about it?

Hotzilla ,

"Discord is bad product, hyperbolically said, it works like a malware."

Hotzilla ,

So no closed source commerical product should ever exist? Discord is one too, I am just selecting one that I can control.

Hotzilla ,

Other is selfhosting and other is service. I pick selfhosted.

Nokia should have continued developing the Linux Qt system maemo/meego. I was working with it as subcontractor in Nokia, and it was awesome. The Qt/C++ was really fast to code, and you could basically port KDE apps into it with small effort.

If they would have continued with it, we could have had three major OS in phones.

I was leading architect in internal UI design tools, and the tools had features that android/apple toolsets not even now have. Mainly because you could run the Qt app with PC hardware without any emulation.

Hotzilla ,

Yeah, I was working on it, and it was awesome.

Hotzilla ,

Nokia was lead by engineers, which was it's strength, but eventually also caused it's downfall. This is why these things were so good.

Engineers told that the fullscreen displays without keyboard is never as good as physical keyboard.

Engineers told that 1 day battery life is not enough, the system need to be designed so that it can last a week.

They were right.

BUT apple's marketing and slick design convinced the American market that you can give up on those features. Nokia could easily made the same design, but didn't because engineers thought that users need those features. When they turned ship and accepted it, apple had its foot between the door already.

Hotzilla ,

Firefox for Android, AdBlock, Firefox -> Chrome user agent fake plugin. Works very well without any ads or issues.

This supports PiP which is YouTube premium feature.

I would jump ship instantly to something better if the content would be there.

Hotzilla ,

Firefox probably exist for iOS but I assume plugin support to be poor, because of apple.

Google Search is getting even worse for independent sites (www.theverge.com)

In February, HouseFresh managing editor Gisele Navarro called out publishers like BuzzFeed and Rolling Stone as some of the culprits that publish content about air purifiers despite a lack of expertise — but Google rewards these sites with high rankings all the same. The result is a search results page filled with SEO-first...

Hotzilla ,

Web today is three companies in a trenchcoat. It is bit sad that the innovation of late 90's has almost disappeared. I do hope Fediverse/ActivityPub would create this next version of free web, which is impossible for companies to control.

Hotzilla ,

Well, win10 is going End-of-life next year.

Hotzilla ,

One very important detail missing here is that Windows 10 is going to be end-of-support in 2025. You won't get security updates.

It is going to be shitshow.

Hotzilla ,

I have lived the time when unpatched windows was the norm. Oh the network worms which roamed freely and created huge bot nets. Sad that Microsoft has forgotten that.

Hotzilla ,

Faxes? Really? Is someone still using fax? Why?!

Hotzilla ,

Oh hell yeah, Teams is far from perfect, but it is still light years ahead of webex

Hotzilla ,

In my 20's, a girl in bar queue told me that she knows how to compile kernel from the source. I asked her to marry me instantly, but unfortunately she was not available.

Hotzilla ,

Based on the system prompt, I am 100% sure they are running GPT3.5 or GPT4 behind this. Anyone can go to Azure OpenAI services and create API on top of GPT (with money of course, Microsoft likes your $$$)

Hotzilla ,

Why discord gets involved is stupid. This is why you self-host these things.

Hotzilla , (edited )

Sorry, as IT person I have to disagree, app based MFA is just way much easier to maintain instead of HW keys.

Edit: forgot to mention that in Finland companies here has to provide phone if your work require that. In IT I don't want nothing to do with users personal devices, and it sounds insane to me that in US companies force apps to your personal devices.

Hotzilla ,

Company device of course. Like mentioned, in IT, I want nothing to do with users personal phones

Hotzilla ,

Simple challenge number handles that, for example Azure AD MFA forces that today

Hotzilla ,

Yup

Hotzilla ,

They don't even need to do triangulation nowadays, tower has direction and distance, because the way how 4G/5G work. 5G also has MIMO (meaning one burst of data to you carry data to other clients in same direction).

Hotzilla ,

I assume all vpn services accessible from china are run by government and they monitor the traffic

Hotzilla ,

Almost all of them do...

(To be specific, the scada machines are commonly Windows, but the plant logic PLC/DCS are realtime automation hardware, that really doesn't have OS)

To be fair, these datasets are one of their biggest competitive edge. But saying in to interviewer "I cannot tell you", is not very nice, so you can take the americal politician approach and say "I don't know/remember" which you cannot ever be hold accountable for.

    Hotzilla ,

Copilot runs with GPT4-turbo. It is not trained differently than openai's GPT4-turbo, but it has different system prompts than openai, which tend to make it more easy to just quit discussion. I have never seen openai to say that I will stop this conversation, but copilot does it daily.

    Hotzilla ,

Yeah, pretty much like that, in Azure and paid openai both let you modify the system prompt also. There is also a creativity (temperature) property that can be modified. When too high, it will hallucinate more, if too low, it will give same output everytime.

Retraining the model costs like hundred million and weeks of computing power.

    Hotzilla ,

It Iis GPT4-turbo, which is same gpt that openai uses now. It is not as good as original GPT4

    Hotzilla ,

It is multiple things, in chat it is just GPT4-turbo, with support to request data through Microsoft Graph API. So basically it can do API searches to data you have access.

In Excel, it can perform things like formulas, with context of your excel sheet. This is actually quite useful.

But still bit disappointed, the system prompt of copilot is in my opinion not as good as open AI's.

    Hotzilla ,

There are lots of mods to original, that add quality of life, extra content and should work fine with win 10/11

It has been few years since tried last time, I believe it was this mainly:

Smart metering has been a thing in Nordics for past 20 years, and it has enabled per hour pricing that guides electricity usage away from peak hours (you have to build the network/production for the peak consumption, which is a problem).

    This is pretty nonsense rambling.

What US of course needs is proper privacy laws. Electricity usage is protected by GDPR in EU, so it would be illegal for anyone else than you and your grid operator to see your consumption.

    Hotzilla ,

That is what happens when you let corporations run your country

    Hotzilla ,

Basic rule of any new tech, first geeks, then porn and after that the normal people

    Hotzilla ,

This is not correct, our police in Finland is trusted by people and not corrupt.

    How you get there:

    1. hold police accountable (e.g. every time police fires their firearm, there is investigation that was it necessary)

    2. require higher education (getting to police requires 3 years bachelor degree)

    3. teach them de-escalation instead of force

    4. have police always patrol in pairs (if police is alone, their gun is their partner)

    5. pay them enough
