    196's removal of downvotes are annoying as fuck sometimes

    lots of the tapes ppl use for it are translucent tho lmao

    people don't directly see the benefits of oil and gas in their life, but they do with meat

    librewolf is cool but I think it's too privacy optimised for the average user, it often doesn't keep you signed into sites (even with cookies enabled) and the ocsp things can be annoying sometimes

    probably because lemmy's pretty small compared to places like reddit and because everyone sees the same content with the same sorting, places like reddit make a few "help" requests visible and make them feel unimportant

    i like it but i think beginners should start out with" just works" distros

    Jumuta ,
    @Jumuta@sh.itjust.works avatar

    not really? farming meat doesn't necessarily have to involve so much antibiotics

    sure you can reduce the amount of antibiotics used by reducing the throughput of meat but you can also just put in tighter regulations

    I (can't figure out if I'm) us(ing th)e( correct drivers on) Arch, btw.

    Jumuta ,
    @Jumuta@sh.itjust.works avatar

    arch makes doing complex things easier though

    Jumuta ,
    @Jumuta@sh.itjust.works avatar

    didn't know about this, I'll definitely try it out

    You're running a t410??

    that's amazing that it's still usable today after 14 years, gives me hope that I can keep my t430 running until a similarly good device appears on the market

    desktop edit mode is so fun though

    Free and open source brain: referring to the platform as Nitter

    Jumuta ,
    @Jumuta@sh.itjust.works avatar

    https://nitter.poast.org still works

    the only way to get it to work now iirc is to have it puppet actual accounts rather than guest accounts so it's a bit harder to do, but privacydevel made a fork that can do that

    I'm like 99% sure this is Apple's deliberate decision to make it so companies with confidential data throw out their computers rather than recycling them

    Yeah, the new standard Sandisk Ultra are really good. I can't comment on the other variants, but the Ultras are really fast, cheap, and reliable in my experience

    if you're changing all your passwords and switching to Linux anyway consider using a free software local password manager like KeepassXC, I use it along with syncthing and it's great

    Jumuta ,
    @Jumuta@sh.itjust.works avatar

    Linux on the t430 is such a smooth experience though

    pretty sure organic is working on that, I remember there being docs on building with PT data.

    Hey Battery, are you OK? You've been saying 0% for 15 min now. (lemmy.world)

    Running a Gigabyte U4UD, been having battery problems for months now, and the battery health only reports 50% capacity. Started playing Battlefront and got distracted and saw my battery looks like this now. Been doing this for 15 min, so either my battery is magical... or the Clevo design is flawed. Seeing how long she goes for...

    that's a really interesting system

    i found a paper that has a lot of information about it if you're interested

    doesn't opensuse have guis for every single thing you could possibly do?

    Jumuta ,

    pretty sure the sn570/550 used to be a pretty good deal

    iirc they don't sell it much anymore, maybe the sn580 is still a good deal?

    Jumuta ,
    @Jumuta@sh.itjust.works avatar

    oh god, win10's dying next year?

    i really need to transition the rest of my shit to Linux soon

    Jumuta ,
    @Jumuta@sh.itjust.works avatar

    if you don't install the wrong packages or skip a step in the installation lmao

    Looking for the Perfect USB Flash Drive

    I've been using some cheap flash drives for things like installing OSs and the like, but now I've picked up a Dell Wyse 3040 system to play with which only has 8gb of storage. So I'm installing the OS onto a flash drive permanently (don't worry, just for messing with, nothing of value will be lost if/when the drive craps out)....

    @Jumuta@sh.itjust.works avatar

    I think the ultra fit uses some other piece of flash, I'd just recommend the plain Ultra or the Luxe. They pretty much have the same chip inside iirc

    I take pride in my below average linux knowledge rather than my arch installation

    fixing things have taken me longer but i learn a lot on the way so I'm not complaining :)
