Its strange how flashbacks are often a little different from the original presentation

Which Lemmy client?

Kelly , (edited )

It's basically a universal format.

True, it even has "interchange" in the name!

CompuServe encouraged the adoption of GIF by providing downloadable conversion utilities for many computers. By December 1987, for example, an Apple IIGS user could view pictures created on an Atari ST or Commodore 64.

So you can shit on me

No, I'm genuinely curious about the different clients we, the Lemmy community, have available. Knowing their strengths and weaknesses helps people make informed choices.

OP couldn't post a picture as a picture format?

GIF is a picture format. It may contain multiple frames or it may not but it is a perfectly standard pallet based image format that has been around for 37 years (for comparison its older than zip or PDF). This is not the same as linking to a 1 second YouTube video.

My current client (Boost) is also treating it as unzoomable, but that is clearly a defect in my client. Even if it was an animation I would want to be able to zoom. Its something to raise with the developer.

In the meantime I just opened the link in my browser:

The idea of ferns, as a decorative plant, is most definitely a meme.

However you are right that ferns, as a lifeform, fall under the category of genes.

Kelly , (edited )

They still have them

The little red dot is in the ThinkPad logo, at that point they are acknowledging its central to their brand.

Alternative take: close your damn windows.

Kelly ,

You mean that song that ripped of the guy from SVU?

Kelly ,

A google lens search on the OP image found this:

https://youtube.com/shorts/Pc4dwk3le0g

Its readable but using webcomics as 3 second YouTube shorts is a pretty gross idea.

Kelly ,

lost revenue

You can be sure this is retail only.

Enterprise Windows won't have this feature and now appears to have added value for corporate customers.

Kenney has been doing it for a while.

He has pretty nice bundle up on itch if anyone has a spare $20 and prefers to browse on the local file system instead of the website.

Suddenly everyone who owns apartments or other rental property in a major city immediately sells it (even if just to be demolished) and kicks out the current renters.

Why? Paying for demo would be costing them more money. Same with sitting on it without tenants.

Kelly ,

"Epic’s filing to the US Federal Court shows again that it simply wants the benefits of Google Play without having to pay for it," Google's spokesperson said. "We’ll continue to challenge the verdict, as Android is an open mobile platform that faces fierce competition from the Apple App Store, as well as app stores on Android devices, PCs, and gaming consoles."

Is this the mocking? Its not a very good mocking!

If you are like me, and you also like the NSA, feel free to contribute and add more fun facts!

Its a fun read

Kelly ,

What do you mean?

Are these scripts being distributed via github or disabling telemetry on github?

Kelly ,

As far as I can tell outlook will call out the title of the first 3 emails in a minute, then if further emails arrive you get the general message.

Its really just a 'we are rate limiting our notifications, check your inbox' message.

Kelly ,

Yes, they know. The message is asking the user to change from their default to Adobe Reader.

Kelly ,

The op link hit a paywall for me, this one is working:

https://web.archive.org/web/20240401221646/https://www.wired.com/story/google-chrome-incognito-mode-data-deletion-settlement/

the company will now pay “zero” dollars as part of the settlement after earlier facing a $5 billion penalty.

I guess they would call that a win

Kelly ,

Backports for supported versions sure,.

That's why there is an incentive to limit support to latest and maybe one previous release, it saves on the backporting burden.

In a 1999 essay on reasons for the male predominance in computer science, applied mathematician Dianne P. O'Leary wrote:
.

Suggestive pictures used in lectures on image processing ... convey the message that the lecturer caters to the males only. For example, it is amazing that the "Lena" pin-up image is still used as an example in courses and published as a test image in journals today.
