I look over once a day.

Herding plants is called 'slow life' for a reason.

Btw, there's render=vulkan or something like that in Wine. But what does it do, force the app to use DirectX in vulkan mode or what?

edit: nope, it basically does the same as dxvk using wineD3D; translation to Vulkan instead of OpenGL, only slower but with less VRAM (useful for some old 32bit games).

MonkderZweite ,

That's for webapps tho?

Please make simple webpages and apps not in web, webapps are bloated and software as a service is not future proof. Plus, they almost never work for me.

MonkderZweite ,

Don't give them internet if they can't use internet.

MonkderZweite ,

Pineapple and Banana is good on pizza.

MonkderZweite ,

There's a lot of good anime series out there. Those for grown ups are about a ratio of 1/5 but they are there.

MonkderZweite ,

But not with some cheap cheese replacement but Sprinz or similiar.

Avast fined $16.5 million for ‘privacy’ software that actually sold users’ browsing data (www.theverge.com)

Avast, the cybersecurity software company, is facing a $16.5 million fine after it was caught storing and selling customer information without their consent. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced the fine on Thursday and said that it’s banning Avast from selling user data for advertising purposes.

MonkderZweite ,

Why downvotes? Shitshows' integrated AV is good enough.

MonkderZweite ,

Isn't that a bubble? Phones are 10x more performant than they need to be anyway. Not like in gaming/server market where it's always too slow, no matter how fast.

MonkderZweite ,

If power consumption is lower

Is it tho? ARM is not purely RISC and x86 not purely CISC anymore.

MonkderZweite ,

Qualcomm has a pretty fast emulator for the growing pains.

With how much, 10% or 20% performance loss? Better buy x86 then.

Our of curiosity, which specific MS product is the one you see as most valuable / hardest to do without for IT security?

I can't imagine it's word or excel or anything document-centric. That's what most people think of when they think of MS Office, but in this day and age there are plenty of totally servicable alternatives.

You'll be surprised. Company documents are usually all made in the shitty format that only really works in MS Office.

And of course MSO doesn't even provide .NET components so someone could create a converter tools using MSO, you have to work around it or use Libre Office's soffice command, which provides limited support for proprietary MSO features. Don't tell me that's not on purpose.

There was a flood after the meditteran salinity crysis, which happened partly due to lowered pressure in the nord causing the ground in the south to recede after the ice was gone (think of pressing in a balloon). There was a theory that the black sea flood (was half as big prior) due to this was what we know as the great flood, with humanity living mostly around there at the time, but i think it was refuted, because the flooding happened over generations there.

The thing with glacier seas happened mostly in scandinavia, gb, up there, creating the english channel (the heck? German it is Ärmelkanal).

MonkderZweite ,

So they like cartoons with lots of murder?

MonkderZweite ,

There's a difference between carcinogen and neurotoxic tho.

MonkderZweite ,

What's there to talk about sports?

…watching or doing? There's more to talk about doing.

MonkderZweite ,

Oh, so it's celebs. How to keep 'em out?

MonkderZweite ,

Was ist damit immer? Deutsche sind bei Software eher Konservativ.

MonkderZweite ,

See? Don't run untrusted js.

Btw, were the owners warned somehow?

MonkderZweite ,

More like it's bad because of architecturial decisions (integrated init system; system state managemt in the same package as init and supervision), creating lots of unneeded complexity, number of CVE's, how the developers behave (or don't), and that you can't have other init systems in the same repo without a fuckton of shims and wrappers.

Sounds like valid concerns to me.

MonkderZweite ,

Since this is lemmy and not tiktok, anyone has a short description? There are reasons i can't play it.

MonkderZweite ,

Methinks my wording needs some work. :)

MonkderZweite ,

Thanks!

MonkderZweite ,

What was that bit about being a "gatekeeper"?

MonkderZweite ,

Maybe you should start regulating things a bit more proactive...

MonkderZweite ,

Nah, Wine runs most XP-times software better, Windows 10+ sometimes not at all. Some people do hacks like running wine in WSL because of this.

There goes your compatibility. Not to mention that Windows is probably the most incompatible OS (to the rest) in wide use (filesystem, non-POSIX, drivers, etc.)

MonkderZweite ,

That means you put it outside of the 70% who have to match.

MonkderZweite ,

Lightweight isn't the word i would use for anything web tho.

MonkderZweite ,

Retailers here (Swiss) already understood that "no and good" saves time on both sides. Goes usually like this:

  • Do you have a <market bonus card>?
  • Nope
  • Do you want to create one?
  • Thanks, no. <paying>

What It’s Like to Staff the Home of a Billionaire (www.thecut.com)

Say you’re on a yacht with your principal and they had a few tequilas, and then they’re like, “Oh, come on. Join us.” Ultimately, you have to remember that you are there because they’re paying you. It’s a job. They’re not your friend. Obviously, you need to share compassion and empathy. Sometimes your boss needs...

MonkderZweite ,

Most of their money comes from their money.

You can be sure that everyone possessing more than a 100 million has a skeleton in the cupboard.

MonkderZweite , (edited )

Try convincing your average Westerner to give up a noticeable percentage of what they own to Africans, though.

The difference here is how much of that is you actually need. The people in question have to waste it even though they use loopholes of loopholes to not pay their fair share in tax.

Apple (slrpnk.net)

I don't care if anyone has a Xiaomi, Oneplus, Samsung, etc. Each brand is using a modified version of Android, and they chose to be compatible with each other. But for example the "blue vs green bubble" drama is a thing specifically because of Apple locking their unsuspecting users into a closed ecosystem. And it sure isn't...
