Everything is political.

Sigh

That's only true in an academic sense. When a layman uses the term "political", they refer to discussion pertaining to things like how a formal government is run, comparisons between types of governance, government policy, etc.

While deciding what cookie to eat or what color your cat's litterbox is might technically be political in an academic sense, you're just going to annoy people if you try to tell them that those are political decisions. I have found that trying to force academic definitions into common use is confusing at best, annoying on average, and infuriating at worst.

An example of where a word's academic definition has no place in common speech can be found in "information". The informal definition of "information" typically is seen as referring to knowledge and the transfer of said knowledge. This definition allows you to gain information from a lack of something.

However, it is my understanding that the scientific definition of "information" does not allow for the aforementioned action, as "information" refers to the properties of physical matter. The result is that you cannot gain "information" from a lack of something. You might be able to come to conclusions based on a lack of "information", but you cannot actually gain "information" from a lack of something because "information" is inherently linked to matter.

Now. All of that said, this meme is related to something said at an engineering school, so on the one hand, it isn't entirely out-of-place to expect the academic definition to be used because it is an academic setting. Yet, on the other hand, it is an engineering school, not a political science school. As such, while OP should be aware that the academic definition of "politics" may come into play, it's also reasonable to expect that their professors and peers would mainly be using the common definition of the term.

However again, in my experience, trying to force academic definitions into casual discussion is confusing at best, annoying on average, and infuriating at worst. Please stop trying to do it. Thanks.

(Also, imo, genocide is like Schrodinger's Cat; it is both political and not political at the same time. Personally, I think it mainly depends on the depth of the discussion; but its "political" nature varies from person-to-person. Imo, saying that genocide is happening shouldn't be considered "political", but talking about why it is occuring is political.)

Edit: whoops, somehow my comment doubled, within the comment. The fuck happened there?

Edit 2: I swear I need to find a new phone keyboard, and I need to read over my comments before submitting. I'm finding a lot of stupid auto-correct errors, and it seems like they're becoming more common.

Edit 3: the reason I got hung-up on it, and I should have mentioned this, is because I often see "everything is political" used to justify bringing heavier topics into places where it's inappropriate (like chatrooms where people are trying to just hang out and have light hearted discussions).

It's like the sad clown from the Sims, except gay.

Just call the clown catcher.

Dude, that'd be an awesome BoI item.

Plastic Dinosaur (active item, 4 room charge):

  • size up 3x

  • 2x damage

  • deal contact damage

  • immune to contact damage (can still be hurt by projectiles)

  • can't fire tears

  • killing enemies makes Isaac roar

  • 50% chance to consume enemies and gain 1/2 heart (or maybe an item charge) when Isaac's damage is greater than the enemy's max health.

MossyFeathers ,

There are already active items that make you fully immune to damage (not just contact damage). That said, they are time limited as opposed to being functional as long as you stay in the room. However, my thought was that still being vulnerable to projectiles would help balance it, especially since it would also increase your size 3x, which makes it harder to dodge projectiles due to the increased hitbox size. Iirc size up at least used to increase hitbox size, though I think it was capped to stop you from being soft locked because you were too big to navigate the rooms.

MossyFeathers ,

Yes pls. Lemme in!

After reading the article, this might be an exception.

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year (www.billboard.com)

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

MossyFeathers ,

I thought that was Qobuz. At least I can actually buy music through Qobuz I guess.

MossyFeathers OP ,

A troodontid! A type of theropod and a very smart bird.

MossyFeathers OP ,

Yes, please! Let me in!

MossyFeathers OP ,

I literally said that it's a troodontid, lol.

MossyFeathers OP , (edited )

It's actually not, the person who made it used practical effects (they made a dinosaur mask)

Edit: here's a picture of the mask under normal lighting

I found out about Archesuchus' "Weird Birds" series last night and I'm kinda obsessed.

MossyFeathers OP ,

Yes, just a funny owl.

MossyFeathers OP ,

They are warm and share their heat, even when they don't want to! They are very kind creatures.

MossyFeathers ,

Yeah, I don't get it. No one says, "fuck Alphabet for how they're handling YouTube". No one says, "fuck Alphabet for baking spyware into Android and Chrome". No, they criticize Google for that stuff. Why is Facebook different?

I don't think the people doing it now are bots, but I swear the Facebook-Meta separation had to have been started by astroturfing. People seemed way too eager to accept the rebranding and act like Meta was somehow different from Facebook.

MossyFeathers OP ,

Holy shit somehow I already forgot that I posted this and scared myself.

MossyFeathers OP ,

But I haven't even started making my own yet!

MossyFeathers OP ,

It's okay, Jerma has that effect on people.

MossyFeathers OP ,

Right now it's all stuff that's been stolen borrowed from the Jerma subr*ddit, but I'm planning to start making my own edits.

I have the skill, just... haven't had the energy.

I love cursed Jerma edits though. They're 10/10. He has such a wild and unhinged community.

MossyFeathers ,

I know it won't happen, but it'd be wild if the Republican party looked at Biden, said, "we could win this if we didn't field trump" and nominated someone else as their candidate; while the Democrats said, "people aren't going to vote for trump, but they may not vote for Biden either, which could cost us the election" and fielded someone other than Biden. The result being that neither Biden nor Trump end up on the ballot.

Again, it's highly unlikely to occur (though we are living in "Strange Times"), and we're almost guaranteed to see Biden vs Trump, but it'd be interesting to see how that'd shake things up.

MossyFeathers ,

Skeumorphism was still alive in 2010. That makes 2010 objectively superior to 2024.

Rabbit R1 is Just an Android App (lemmy.world)

See, it turns out that the Rabbit R1 seems to run Android under the hood and the entire interface users interact with is powered by a single Android app. A tipster shared the Rabbit R1’s launcher APK with us, and with a bit of tinkering, we managed to install it on an Android phone, specifically a Pixel 6a....

MossyFeathers ,

Dude, maybe it was meant to be a joke, but that doom picture is so fake. C'mon.

Personally, I've found that not really being into sex is a deal breaker for most people. Combine that with the fact that I have a hard time trusting people and maintaining relationships with them, and I've kinda given up.

I just want to feel wanted.

Edit, on a slightly different note: for everyone out there who is """fur-curious""" but holding back for one reason or another, stop that. I orbited the furry community for probably 15yrs before "officially" getting involved in the community a couple years ago and I seriously regret that I waited that long. People are a hell of a lot nicer here.

MossyFeathers ,

Thanks for the encouragement hugs

MossyFeathers ,

I dunno man, they seem like cool people, but it seems like drama tends to follow them and their fans can be bat shit insane.

Okay, if I... if I chop you up in a meat grinder, and the only thing that comes out, that's left of you, is your eyeball, you'r- you're PROBABLY DEAD! You're probably going to - not you, I'm just sayin', like, if you- if somebody were to, like, push you into a meat grinder, and, like, your- one of your finger bones is still intact, they're not gonna pick it up and go, "Well see, yeah it wasn't deadly, it wasn't an instant kill move! You still got, like, this part of your finger left!" NO I'M NOT GONNA PUT YOU INTO A MEAT GRINDER. I'M NOT GONNA PUT YOU INTO A MEAT GRINDER. NO. I'm making a reference to the fact that, like, if I, like, if I were to get fucking KILLED... I don't know, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYIN'. If- if- okay, if you were to- okay we're gonna take humans out of this, if alien Globgobglobgo 1 fuckin' shoots a disintegrating ray at alien Globglo 2, if there's only fucking TEETH LEFT, it's- it's fucking you're dead, you're dead.

"If I were to put you in a meat grinder," goddamnit, it's so fucked up! You understand what I'm sayin' though, I'm not actually saying that I'm going to put somebody in a meat grinder, goddamnit. Whatever.

- an entirely sane and not completely deranged psychopath.

MossyFeathers OP ,

No. Weebs are people who are fans of Japanese culture in general, usually to an extreme; ignoring shortcomings of Japanese culture and politics in favor of a highly romanticized version of Japan. An anime fan might think Japan is cool, a weeb thinks Japan is some kind of magical fairyland where catgirls grow on trees.

It's like tankies vs communists and socialists.

MossyFeathers OP ,

I don't know if there's a complete collection anywhere, but here's a Shincho Monthly article that she some of it (obviously NSFW): https://archive.org/details/erotica_of_osamu_tezuka

Most of it is transformation fetish stuff, ranging from human->anthro stuff to weirder inanimate and body-horror-esque/"what-has-science-done" kinda transformation art. Tbh I kinda wonder how much of it was really fetish fuel and how much of it was artistic musings. Some of the drawings are so bizarre that it's hard to believe that they'd actually trigger someone's fetish and seem more like he was just exploring surreal transformations.

Then again, I've been exposed to a lot of obviously pornographic art that normies would think was too weird to be fetish material, so I'm probably mistaken.

There sure is! I usually see them referred to as "ameriboos" or "westaboos" (both are plays on "weeaboo", which is the full term that "weeb" is derived from).

MossyFeathers OP ,

Eh, I think it depends on the weeb. I'd say that most are obsessed with Japanese pop culture, however it also depends on the individual. I've known weebs who were basically just into the anime/manga depiction of Japan, while others had a deeper but equally romanticized understanding of Japanese culture.
