On clearance? Time to stock up!

Just because your queerness is less easily depicted, it's no less valid.

Sorry, but that's Elena Kagan.

Elaine (née Gorman) Kagan is a long-time actor and writer, wife of Jeremy Kagan and mother of Eve Kagan.

I had something similar happen to me years ago in a Toyota minivan. The car stalled and died in traffic, some kind of electrical glitch. I got out to raise the hood. The door closed behind me and it came up with just enough battery to lock itself, with my keys in the ignition and my two babies and quadriplegic husband inside. It was 107° outside. And pre-cellphones. I bolted to the nearby gas station to call 911 and grab something to break a window. Meanwhile hubby tried to coach toddler how to wriggle out of car seat and open door, but straps were too snug. Firehouse was near, and the jammed traffic was all in one direction so they used the opposite side and didn't take long, and they jimmied the door open quickly. But it was boiling in there. Sat the kids by the road to cool off with water and get checked by paramedics, gave water to husband in car with open doors, and waited for a tow to the gas station so I could lower the ramp and get my husband out. Meanwhile of course we made the traffic even worse, but people weren't too mad when they saw our plight as they squeezed past.

I'm wondering, did some similar glitch happen here, or do Tesla doors lock every time they shut?

Mouselemming ,

Ah, that is stupid.

Mouselemming ,

I saw Sizzler right away and realized "fine" wasn't serious so this was an easy one

Mouselemming ,

Which is what I got when I clicked the link. Maybe it's a time zone thing?

Mouselemming ,

I hope you are being careful to choose native species, or at least avoid invasive species. The wrong plants won't help anything and may crowd out important local plants.

Mouselemming ,

It does, from what I can tell with a quick googling about DNR trees.

Mouselemming ,

Their shtick?

Mouselemming ,

Them beating you in the head with their stick probably didn't help.

Mouselemming ,

I thought so too, and schtick is a valid variant, but dictionaries list shtick first.

Mouselemming ,

You're doing Ceiling Cat's work.

Mouselemming ,

It's just that the kitty is so illegally smol, they used a microscope to take the picture.

Mouselemming ,

In the years since this joke first floated out into the tubes of the internet, Florida has gotten specifically worse for trans people, to the point that your thought would be quite plausible.

Mouselemming ,

Someone with, for instance, older kids who could get themselves into a situation (and only communicate by text) and a parent in a different time zone who's got Alzheimer's and is being cared for by a stressed-out sibling who needs support and agreement from the rest of us by group email.

Mouselemming ,

So, the monster was given a human brain that was already known to be murderous. Why, we don't know, but a good bet would be childhood abuse and alcohol syndrome, maybe inherited syphilis, given the era. Now that murderer's brain is given an extra-strong body, and then subjected to more abuse and rejection. That's how you create a monster.

Comics don't have to have a joke, they can just tell a story. This is a nice story of two people who care for and support each other in spite of discovering their selves and life goals don't sync with continuing the original relationship. They manage to break up the romance with each feeling freed rather than dumped, so they can continue to be friends. Hopefully their eventual new partners will appreciate this.

Mouselemming ,

When I was a kid I asked my mom why Superman was in a comic book when he wasn't funny. The answer is the same.

Mouselemming ,

Comics aren't nerd anything, they've been mainstream since the 1930s, honey. And a large number of them haven't been comical, although there are plenty which are. This one may be modern but it's nothing really new. The same story could have played out in a hetero relationship between supportive adults as far back as my mother's era. I wasn't using her as an authority, just a representative of the populace. And to note that only a little child thinks comics have to be funny. This one may be modern but the story here isn't all that new. It's
personal and fresh to the author, and I'm happy for them that their life is working out so well, but the plotline is straight out of a 1950s romance comic.

Hey how about instead of picking fights on the Internet, or even while picking fights on the Internet, why don't you go to your nearest blood bank and donate a pint like I'm doing now?

Mouselemming ,

Not wanted. Get your ass out there and give a pint. You'll be glad to know they're not excluding for Mad Cow anymore, so you should be fine.

Mouselemming ,

On the Internet no one knows you're a dog....

In some states iced tea would also be full of sugar. And "hot tea" is a dry teabag next to a cup of warmish water.

Check the menu for items that require milk as an ingredient. You might be able to order a glass even if it isn't on the menu.

Mouselemming ,

Like anything with a bechamel-based sauce or gravy, or custard/pudding/flan, or pancakes, etc.

Mouselemming ,

Thank you. Apparently that was during our family's Raffi period. As in, I'm old but I had tiny children then and no time or energy for anything else.

At least they got the words neatly written and balanced on the cardboard, and the fists are drawn better than on your average cardboard sign.

Mouselemming ,

Let's try to gauge the limits of language

Or better, put the pack in the bottom of your backpack and at lunchtime pour the whole smashed bag of crumbs into a little tub of yogurt and eat it with a spoon 🥄

It's possible that the school would allow him to drop off a phone in the front office every morning and pick it up before walking home. Depends how nice you are to the office ladies, but that's always a good idea anyway because they're more powerful than you can imagine. (Some school office staff may not be ladies these days but the principle still applies, and in elementary school most probably still are.)

Theoretically to check for smuggling and/or theft, I've been told. Come to think of it, if exactly the right weight of merchandise "fell off the back of the truck" to balance the weight of the humans you're trafficking, you'd be safe and make double profits.

Poor sweetie is doing the best she can, pooping in the box and THOROUGHLY burying it! My old cat did that until the day she died. But our present cat is unclear on the concept; she scratches at the plastic edge and in the air, then walks away with the poop still proudly and aromatically perched atop the undisturbed litter. It's a tradeoff.

Nurses Protest 'Deeply Troubling' Use of AI in Hospitals (www.404media.co)

“Life-and-death decisions relating to patient acuity, treatment decisions, and staffing levels cannot be made without the assessment skills and critical thinking of registered nurses,” the union wrote in the post. “For example, tell-tale signs of a patient’s condition, such as the smell of a patient’s breath and their...

I'm reading a lot of comments from people who haven't been in a hospital bed recently. AI has increasingly been used by insurance companies to deny needed treatment and by hospital management to justify spreading medical and support personnel even thinner.

The whole point of AI is that it's supposed to be able to learn, but what we've been doing with it is the equivalent of throwing a child into scrubs and letting them do heart surgery. We should only be allowing it to monitor the care and outcomes as done by humans, in order to develop a much more substantial real-world database than it's presently working from.

Women's shoes in 1900 routinely had high heels as well. Here's a sample:

The difference may be about an inch from the 1950s shoe shown.

I think he was perfectly justified in removing the plants, but should have done so before he wound up screwing the innocent new tenants who probably can't break the contract unless it specifically includes the plants. By delaying, he's basically handing the landlord a check from the new people.

We've given up painting faces with arsenic and lead, and moved on to PFAS and microplastics.

Firefighters say to keep the door closed, it significantly increases your chances of surviving a fire. And if you smell smoke, FEEL IT before you try to open it. If it's hot, go straight to the window.

Having said all that, I have a cat, and don't have room for a litterbox in my bedroom, so open it is!

    Mouselemming ,

Her sainted predecessor slept out of our room but often with our kids. But she's gone, the kids are independent adults in other states with their own cats, and this little cat started off too young to be left alone all night, so the pattern was set. The main difference now is she has the run of the apartment as well, and the litterbox and food are out there. I'm a pushover for a cozy feline.

    Mouselemming ,

Sorry for you dude. Where are you?

A high of 69°F for me tomorrow. Nice.

    Mouselemming ,

Minnesota? Well hell, you guys only have about 3 months you don't need snow tires. And for one of those it's 90°/90% humidity often as not. But you have walleye! Best fish I ever tasted.

    Mouselemming ,

Probably doesn't matter that much to you, as a cockroach 🪳
