Funny to see a Chinese company talking about "constitutional rights".

Ring customers get $5.6 million in privacy breach settlement (www.bleepingcomputer.com)

The Federal Trade Commission is sending $5.6 million in refunds to Ring users whose private video feeds were accessed without consent by Amazon employees and contractors, or had their accounts and devices hacked because of insufficient security protections.

When the government takes your data they will call it legitimate

Google has the lions share of the browser installs. If this were not the case, you can bet Google would never dream up this nonsense to begin with.

Outtatime ,
@Outtatime@sh.itjust.works avatar

I didn't say it did. My point was that Google is getting away with it because they rely on ignorance and the lion's share of browser installs.

I hate Facebook and especially the hordes of scammers there. Not a single thing being done about it

Outtatime ,
@Outtatime@sh.itjust.works avatar

I don't trust the government to do anything right at this point.

Big city problems. This is why I love living in the sticks

You have a good point. You generally don't get the other side of the story. Mainly just op-eds that yeah one side. Would love to have actual journalism back.

Arstechnica seems to be the last bastion of actual journalism even though sometimes I feel even they succumb to the click bait shit.

I used to read ghacks daily. It's like the drudge report of tech news. Maybe even blues news.

You've never been to the South

Try again. Take your bullshit hot takes the fuck out of here. It's tired and old. Nobody is buying it anymore.

Exactly. If you run windows, the default defender anti virus is just as capable. Don't use 3rd party anti virus software or use the"free" ones.

Anybody who defends these actions by the EU is a poopy face

And the USA system is bullshit and I'm against it.

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone (lemmy.world)

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

This type of tech is already being put into vehicles as well. I used to get laughed at 20 years ago when I predicted this. Nobody is laughing anymore. If anything, they just accept it.

Outtatime ,
@Outtatime@sh.itjust.works avatar

That's cool. I was envisioning something even worse. Maybe in cahoots with the IRS they wait till you were also late on your taxes and did a double whammy

Nope. Let's jump to conclusions and shit on Proton without doing simple research on the issue. Looking at the above comments

Reddit: 'We Are in the Early Stages of Monetizing Our User Base' (www.404media.co)

Reddit said in a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission that its users’ posts are “a valuable source of conversation data and knowledge” that has been and will continue to be an important mechanism for training AI and large language models. The filing also states that the company believes “we are in the early...

Obviously, world governments are the answer to all our problems.

The alternative? To a global government?

Anything but that. That my final offer

Antifa ain't happy about that.

Modern Nazism?? 😂 Nazis were defeated long ago. I've never ever seen a Nazi in real life. You ok?

Outtatime ,
@Outtatime@sh.itjust.works avatar

You think a few knuckle heads waving that stupid fucking flag means the Nazis are back??! 😂 😂

You also believe in the Boogeyman? You have momma check under your bed at night?

    Would still be nice to hide that information

    The Irish government wants to pass a law that could see you or your loved ones jailed for possession of memes, cartoons or any content that could be deemed "hateful".

    The Bill includes no definition of hate and is wide open to abuse by bad actors. Defend free speech – say no to this legislation, and any legislation of is kind... Anywhere!...

    Love how this has just become an X hate chat. Y'all loved musk a few years ago. Now you just parrot the main stream media talking points like retarded muppets.

    So there are laws that people agree with that say people under 18 cannot buy/see porn at the store. What makes this any different

    Outtatime ,
    @Outtatime@sh.itjust.works avatar

    I believe the responsibility should be on the parents to keep their children from viewing porn before they're 18. Not the government. I also believe there should be at least some control over what minors have access to. Will it ever be 100%? Nope. All we can do is the best we can do

    Your Smart TV Knows What You’re Watching (themarkup.org)

    These TVs can capture and identify 7,200 images per hour, or approximately two every second. The data is then used for content recommendations and ad targeting, which is a huge business; advertisers spent an estimated $18.6 billion on smart TV ads in 2022, according to market research firm eMarketer.
