Firefox saw an increase in users (~50% in Germany and ~30% in France) following Apple’s default browser changes in the EU, as did Brave. (www.theverge.com)

Firefox spokesperson Christopher Hilton tells The Verge that the browser has seen a more than 50 percent jump in users in Germany and a nearly 30 percent increase in France....

Pantherina ,

Could someone add an image of this setup screen?

I dont get why Apple would actively advertise other browsers.

Android is completely open and people still use Chrome, as its the default and nothing advertizes Firefox (Mull) or others like Cromite, Brave, Vivaldi etc.

Pantherina ,

Lol right, people use whatever they get fed. I cant believe how people use phones as products, what came with it MUST be perfect

Pantherina ,

What? I never saw such a selection on setup, and I set up some Nokia Android, LineageOS, GrapheneOS and Google Pixel OS

Pantherina ,

Never saw this, maybe it doesnt show when the phone is reset?

Pantherina ,

Crazy, this is crazy. And extremely good!

Pantherina ,

I always buy used (by people too lazy or with weird believes that dont want to repair or use old phoned). I really suppose they dont show this on factory reset.

Pantherina , (edited )

That graph looks exaggerated but this is over a few days which is crazy

Pantherina ,

True.

Pantherina ,

No the axis shows a detailed increase with clearly stated numbers. This is just the first impression.

We are not talking about Apple graph madness

apple bullshit

Pantherina ,

Aah yes, just to prevent.... touching your door knob?

Pantherina ,

SimpleTabGroups and the ability to place pinned addons in any area of the browser UI already gives you that

https://tux.social/@Rhababerbarbar/112077769187609417

Pantherina ,

You have the extension button, a tab context menu (right clicking on a tab) and thats it.

The extension can do a lot, but basically you go to the extension icon in the extension area and create groups, you click on the group and all other tabs are hidden away. Then you open tabs here, you can right click on a tab to move between groups and also set the tabs favicon (the small icon) as the tab group icon.

You click in the menu on another group and the current tabs are hidden and you move there.

It can also work with container tabs (isolated cookies) so allow to use multiple accounts, and I think the hidden tabs are frozen, taking less RAM and CPU

Pantherina ,

Mull, but use the DivestOS repository. F-droid also builds it but too much delayed.

Pantherina ,

This dude should totally use a ublue-nvidia image before the next Arch update kills their system again.

Pantherina ,

Btw Celluloid is the best modern MPV GUI with all the goodies like portals. And it supports MPV configs which can solve many VLC issues in a single line, like click-to-play ! Never going back.

Pantherina ,

Then I think VLC is the best

Pantherina ,

Rolling release?

I want revolving release, every one is a russian roulette to destroy my system

Pantherina ,

Damn MX Linux

Pantherina ,

Suicide Linux

If you mistype a command your distro gets destroyed.

Pantherina ,

Thats like calling MacOS and Playstation rises the "year of the BSD desktop"

Change my mind.

Pantherina ,

Folding at home?

Pantherina ,

Polkit rule, if you remove the requirement on subject local then it should work without

Pantherina ,

Thats probably still not possible over ssh.

Pantherina ,

Who uses YT music when there are so many free clients?

Pantherina ,

I mean, Waydroid works fine with Aurorastore and even Playstore. Sure that may break, but all that capitalist "we buy licenses" BS of course costs money

Pantherina ,

BlissOS Zenith didnt boot for me poorly, and other versions are slightly outdated. But I will try another one.

Waydroidnruns a rootful LXD container I think, which is not isolated at all. An OCI image ran through Podman would be way better.

Pantherina ,

Bluestacks is full of Ads and junk. But it has actual additions to make it work with a keyboard. Waydroid wasnt able to register multi-input for me, which makes basically any game unplayable.

But the android app smart autoclicker is the perfect replacement for bluestacks things.

Pantherina ,

Psssst, come to the side of the funny penguins.

I recommend a silverblue-surface image from ublue.it

UK Trial: Pornhub's Chatbot Halts Millions from Accessing Child Abuse Content (www.wired.com)

A trial program conducted by Pornhub in collaboration with UK-based child protection organizations aimed to deter users from searching for child abuse material (CSAM) on its website. Whenever CSAM-related terms were searched, a warning message and a chatbot appeared, directing users to support services. The trial reported a...

Pantherina ,

What is an "unwanted gift" though?

Pantherina ,

Lol makes sense. Meta being really meta here, but if thats needed... better too much than too little

Pantherina ,

Add SimpleX and Conversations-i2p

Pantherina ,

Hahaha, SimpleX on Android is fine, the Desktop client is kinda incompatible with anything (no flatpak, the ubuntu version is kinda broken, no repo, their sync requires a random firewall port to be open)

Pantherina ,

Yeah I avoid installing stuff to my system but I looked into RPM .spec files and that should be possible too. Flatpak would be the way to go though.

Pantherina ,

Welcome to security I guess

Pantherina ,

The AUR is not verified or audited at all, isnt it? So you need to check every release if that script was modified to download something malicious. For sure this works somehow, but idk how.

And sandboxing... flatpak has GUI tooling unlike anything else. Bubblejail is usable.

Pantherina ,

Yeah I tried the ubuntu version through Distrobox, which is way more secure. But they have no repo, and it broke apt lol.

Appimages are completely insecure, there are literally no updates. Its a random bundle of libraries, as old as possible to work on every old kernel, and they are just broken by design (see an old post of mine).

There is flatpak packaging work done and I want to learn that and help, as Flatpak is just the best.

Pantherina ,

That DDG app is interesting, so it records inter process communication without root? How?

Pantherina ,

Ah so Nekogram connected to Google?

Pantherina OP ,

I tried IOT too and it the bootloader didnt install.

Then I just installed Atomic Sway (because not that much bloat), and before logging in rebased to secureblue server-main-userns-hardened. It worked but I have no DNS? Damn...

Pantherina OP ,

Its overcomplex. For sure I could get used to it and maybe this is the way to go.

But you could wrap this tedious process in a function.

Fedora has a distro upgrade command (that totally sucks but okay) since many years, while on Debian I needed to follow some random Guide to get on the hyped Debian 12.

Pantherina OP ,

Strange, Fedora39 to Fedora39, I use that atomic base always (like 15 different installs, GNOME, Plasma6, Secureblue, Cosmic, Sway,...)

Pantherina OP ,

I was looking for such a guide but could not find it back then.

I followed this guide

Which may be overcomplex but it is complete and lots of things where not intuitive at all.

As I said, you could easily automate this step, instead of making it that manual. Or course I can do that, but why need to, if a sudo apt distro-upgrade would do it?

Pantherina OP ,

I rebooted and now it works. /etc/resolv.conf is not the file you edit, but that localhost DNS is interesting. Saw that a long time ago (Obi wan face)

Pantherina OP ,

Thanks! Will look into that
