Librewolf, their devs seem hella inactive but their builds are automated. Tbh I would prefer a working arkenfox more. Made my own softening and install script but its pre-alpha and I will likely rewrite it again in some time.

Pantherina ,

And that is not related to the comment. If this partner is gone, Firefox lost a big deal.

Pantherina ,

Whats that about?

Pantherina ,

Get over it, find a job!

Pantherina ,

Yeah but what part? Does a plane fly into some directory because it bursts?

Pantherina , (edited )

The steel beams that failed in the World Trade Center were primarily the floor trusses, which supported the floors between the columns. The intense heat from the burning jet fuel weakened these beams, causing them to lose their structural integrity and ultimately leading to the collapse of the towers.

Thanks ChatGPT lol

So the plane crashed into the building and there was a floor carried by steel beams and those bent and caused the whole building to collapse.

Like Airdrop (using wifi) could never possibly work like normal Bluetooth sharing (using Bluetooth)

Pantherina ,

Signal Statuses are literally the only way I "social media" with people I know.

kermit sad

Pantherina ,

This was always my idea, abuse "free money" apps where you watch ads for money en masse with automated swipes using apps like Smart Autoclicker and tadaaa! Free money.

Would be worse for the environment than mining Bitcoin though.

Pantherina ,

Use Firefox Translate please ;D

Trick: use Firefox translate, export website using singlefile, share the website as html.

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone (lemmy.world)

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

Pantherina ,

Banking is a hit or miss, GrapheneOS should pass all security checks and more, but none of them is Google certified and apps start to request that, which sucks

Pantherina ,

Shes kinda antivaxx. So prefer a tech-incompetent but kinda politically educated grandma.

Btw now that my last Grandmother died, I find it pretty weird to talk about Grandmas?

Pantherina ,

No, electron, xwayland, GNOME cause problems.

KDE with fractional scaling on Wayland works well.

Not sure about GNOME today, but they hid it away in the past and forcing 120%/150% made everything blurry

Pantherina ,

This is just a theory but I assume they just dont scale, they have their UI sized to a set size and thats it.

Pantherina ,

So they do the same as GNOME? Scale double and then scale down?

Okay that makes sense as you need more pixels to work with.

Pantherina ,

This. Old dude ranting all the time, refusing change, being kinda self entitled and with veeeery MURICA vibes.

Pantherina ,

Wow this is great!

if you are using your own index, I think you could use a more economical approach to fight the spam bullshit of the modern web.

  • instead of using badness enumeration, crawling everything and filtering malware, use an opt-in principle
  • have a community method of gathering new trusted websites
  • use websites internal search functions to get more results
  • use categories to split up the websites, reinventing what people should find: general, news, navigation, science, politics, IT, technology (not code), art, music, philosohy, ....
  • have an app or submission website where users can submit new websites, and some form of community control over it (kinda censorship but in a good way)

This could fix the web as it currently is, by rethinking what should be found, pushed etc. Rating websites by quality could also be helpful.

Also if you support payments in crypto or cash, there should be no problem to make it paid.

Android phone saving metadata for screenshots (i.ibb.co)

I always remove this data from my screenshots before sharing, but is there any way to prevent this from happening in the first place? I've searched and searched, but all I can find is information about how to remove the data after the fact, which I already know how to do, but it would sure be nice if it never got added in the...

Pantherina ,

GrapheneOS Camera is very nice. May only work on Pixels, but on stock android (which is an insane tracking platform you should ditch) too.

Download their appstore, there you get the camera app.

Pantherina ,

This was about screenshots, sorry. No idea, dont think you can change that without a different android OS

Microsoft is once again injecting pop-up ads into Google Chrome on Windows in a bid to get people to switch to Bing (www.theverge.com)

The software giant first introduced malware-like pop-up ads last year with a prompt that appeared over the top of other apps and windows. After pausing that notification to address “unintended behavior,” the pop-ups have returned again on Windows 10 and 11....

Ublock Origin does not block "malicious Javascript" reliably. You need NoScript for that, and a opt-in approach. Block everything, unblock what you need, hope its not malicious.

Pantherina ,

Yes thats why you have the button to click on. I also need to allowlist basically every site I visit.

There should be some way to share such a list, to reduce the manual work.

I highly recommend manually enabling Javascript.

Pantherina ,

Flash should be possible to disable about:config as its legacy technology.

Could you explain the overlay remover?

Noscript is the only good addon for blocking javascript and allowing only some parts for specific origins.

Pantherina ,

And sometimes it prevents sites from working, because paywalls that are avoidable by blocking the cover are deprecated and nowadays real solutions are used. This means such size will just break.

Ublock can also remove overlays, and I am sure it you add more lists they will be blocked by default.

Having less code run in your browser is always recommended.

Pantherina ,

That probably is a Ublock origin filterlist. Did you ever open UBOs settings? Try to not use too many, too many lists increase RAM and CPU usage and are all using badness enumeration so they will be 80% duplicates.

I dont know if UBO deduplicates them (removes duplicates), that would make sense.

Pantherina ,

I am actually considering rebasing to Fedora Kinoite Prerelease as I get hard crashes on normal Kinoite... damn

Pantherina ,

You are using that Duckduckgo thing which is not a reliable source of information.

I would be interested in what a "tracking attempt" would look like.

Your VPN sees EVERYTHING you connect to, if you use HTTPS that is not a big deal but can help target stuff to your usage.

If it is tracking or just traffic passthrough is decided on their servers, which no weird Duckduckgo app can access.

Pantherina ,

Thanks, I think it is very relevant to understand how this DDG VPN "tracker blocking" works.

If it is about an app sending requests to lots of domains, this may have many reasons. For example it could check the IP addresses of all these tracking serverers to block apps from communicating with them via IP and not URLs.

This would be a reason that a trusted app connects to tracking servers to update their internal filterlist.

This "known to collect" seems to be unrelated to the actual connection, just "this service often collects data about x".

If this is true, that is HIGHLY misleading and please update your post to explain that possibility.

Pantherina ,

You need to contact them, if they connect to known to-be-blocked sites to get their IPs.

Googerteller does this:

Note: Find it ironic or not, but to query the list of all Google IPs/subnets, this needs to contact one Google domain, actually. (That request does not emit a sound, though.)

And I would ask DDG how their "tracker blocker" works and if it would also block such requests.0

Firefox saw an increase in users (~50% in Germany and ~30% in France) following Apple’s default browser changes in the EU, as did Brave. (www.theverge.com)

Firefox spokesperson Christopher Hilton tells The Verge that the browser has seen a more than 50 percent jump in users in Germany and a nearly 30 percent increase in France....

Pantherina ,

Fucking onion browser??? Damn

Pantherina ,

Maybe on setup but not on factory reset it seems.

I have ever only gotten factory reset phones... and one that was in arab but I could find the settings by comparing menus to grapheneos, pixel os is luckily close to AOSP

Pantherina ,

Its likely just a setting in about:config

Or install Firefox from the official deb repo, or from flathub

Pantherina ,

Followers of capitalist projects, believing their "you are important" lies. And still dislike followers of different equally shit companies.

Pantherina ,

GNOME Classic looks like GNOME 3. But Ubuntu doesnt use GNOME too, they highly modify it too.

So you dont get the best experience anyways.

Pantherina ,

TIL the boys where advertizing vegan chicken nuggets. Nice.

Will still not step inside a KFC but nice anyways.
