That’s a neat application of LLMs. I echo the other comments here in that I’d want final say on file changes and the ability to only enable it for certain directories.

Ebikes will be banned in most of North America in 5 years, calling it now :/

Those articles pulled a lot of weight because my province over the last few years have removed all purchase incentives for EVs. The gov used to give up to $10k CAD rebates for electric vehicles. They recently got rid of it and after the election next year, they’ll fully get rid of all remaining incentives.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

Do you see EVs being mainstream anytime soon? There are no places to charge (spare for a few big businesses in the bigger cities) and EVs are often double the price of their gas counterparts.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

The smaller affordable EVs are not available in the North American market. The only choice North American consumers have is the large over the top unaffordable EVs. If consumers literally have no choice, surprise surprise they do with what they have access to.

Incentives in this sense really do nothing except subsidize luxury cars for the rich. Cheap EVs are available all over Europe and China but they are purposefully kept out of North America.

There is no political will or interest to actually switch over.

As a large language model I cannot comment on the ethical implications or legality of glue on pizza.

It is important to note that there are a variety of edible glues used in food production and if you are unsure, it is best to consult a professional. Remember, it is always best to bring any ethical or legal concerns about food glue to a registered dietician or other dietary professional.

Happy eating!

Orgies and psychedelics use is super common in their own rite, but it’s even more common in high tech silicone valley circles:

I’m in the market for a new car in Canada. I don’t want a gas car. Environmental reasons aside, they just cost too much and have too many moving parts that can wear out.

I can afford most any gas car I want. The moment it becomes electric I cannot afford it. A $10k BYD looks nice, but my government decides I actually need to pay $45k starting instead.

I get there’s protectionism of local industry, but clearly the market doesn’t want what the industry is making. We are held captive to whatever the industry thinks we want. It’s not a real free market. We are prescribed options to bail out the fledgling automotive industry (whatever is left of it after outsourcing everything to Mexico and SEA)

Wait until you find out the analysis they do on car door closing sounds and the clickiness of specific buttons! Industrial Design is COOOL.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

Haha no that’s not what I meant. Industrial Design is a profession and automotive industrial designers design all sorts of things, from the shape of the body to the swoopiness of a headlight to the specific clacky feel of various buttons.

My company has a mandate to sell 50% of our buildings. We also have a mandate to return to office. They’re having people sit on the floors with their laptops because there is not enough space.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

Exactly how my office is doing things. All of us are tracked by our phones to ensure commutes and then by IP address pulled from Entra ID and company-wide VPN. They cross reference it with our seat booking system.

We were 100% remote for all employees since March 2019. Managers now encourage us to go out and buy food at the restaurants nearby (some even “jokingly” ask for receipts which some people keep).

It’s more important to hold up the economy than lower emissions and improve morale, employee happiness, and productivity.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

Imagine reading in a national newspaper that a government official wanted workers back downtown to fix the downtown economy and then learning 3 days later that you must start showing up to an office to sit on Teams calls with your nationally dispersed team.

I’m using an old gaming pc. 16 gb ram and i5 9400F. Less specs than what you’re looking for but I’m running Nextcloud, Plex (@4k), Pihole, home assistant, and an entire Debian virtual machine. All of that uses 10GB of ram.

If ya want budget, you can go really far with low specs.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

That’s awesome that you’ve got such an old PC doing so much!

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

I use Nextcloud to hold all my personal and important files as well as my wife and I’s shared photo album. I use an old Surface laptop as a digital picture frame and have it on a random loop slideshow of our pictures album on our Nextcloud.

We use the iPhone apps to upload our photos and then it shows up on our frame. Works really well!

I use it quite a bit. I don’t trust big companies who commercialize AI so I run my AIs locally on my old retired gaming desktop that I’ve turned into a homelab/media server.

I use Kobold.AI to self host an LLM like ChatGPT (Dolphin-Mistral7b if you are curious). I mainly use it for low effort knowledge searches for stuff that is easier typed out long and descriptive (since google struggles with this). Since it’s AI I have to be careful about what I search since I’ve seen it make stuff up but for the majority of what I use it for (Programming syntax, Linux troubleshooting, general questions) it’s pretty good.

I also have Stable Diffusion running as well using the ICBINP model (which is pretty decent for photorealistic images). I use this AI to generate social media display pictures and porn :) it’s fun because it’s a surprise at what you’re going to get but sometimes it generates absolute horrors. Anatomical horrors. Those are genuinely horrific. Other times it’s really good.

Most of us do. Rogers and Bell (the only companies we can get internet infrastructure from) don’t often sell internet on its own. You usually have to get a cable or home phone package with it.

If you’re lucky and some third party company is leasing some bandwidth from the existing fibre or cable infrastructure, you can pay a bit cheaper and just have an internet plan on its own (like with Start or Teksavvy or the others).

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

I guess it depends where you live. I’m in Atlantic Canada and there aren’t any Bell or Rogers plans that have internet as standalone. Always in a bundle.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

Which is why as of later yesterday they limit how many searches you can do without being logged in. Fortunately using another browser gets around this.

I predict execs will never see this despite you being correct. We replaced most of our HR department with enterprise GPT-4 and now almost all HR inquiries where I work is handled through a bot. It daydreams HR policies and sometimes deletes your PTO days.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

No unfortunately. A lot of us fucked with it but it keeps logs of every conversation and flags abusive ones to management. We all got a stern talking to about it afterwards.

Spotify but only because we are all sharing a family plan and the price makes sense at that point for the convenience.

As soon as Spotify gets rid of family plans and account sharing (just like all other streaming platforms) I’ll sail the seas with Lidarr.

I had to prepare a high level report to a senior manager last week regarding a project my team was working on.

We had to make 5 professional recommendations off of data we reported.

We gave the 5 recommendations with lots of evidence and references to why we came to that decision.

The top question we got was: “What are ChatGPT’s recommendations?”

Back to the drawing board this week because LLMs are more credible than teams of professionals with years of experience and bachelor-masters level education on the subject matter.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

Haha and then the conversation would then be “Yes but can we see ChatGPT’s research?”

PerogiBoi ,

All you need to succeed on this planet is the self confidence to say things. It literally does not matter the accuracy. It’s how you express it. I wish I knew this when I was younger. I’d cut out all the imposter syndrome that held me back.

PerogiBoi ,
@PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca avatar

You joke but several sections of our HR department got cut and replaced with Enterprise GPT-4. We talk to an internal chatbot now about HR questions and some forms.

It did the opposite lmao. I asked it what my vacation leave was because you need to verify leave amounts before you’re allowed to request any additional leave. It said I had 0 in my balance and I know for a fact I have at least a week left 🤪 took almost a month to sort it out. Had to provide balance screenshots and everything. I’d be probably fucked if I hadn’t manually screenshot my leave amounts beforehand.

I love Wayland but I don’t love half my apps rendering as blurry when using my HiDPI screen. Wayland treating me good so far. I wanted to ride the poo poo on xorg train cause of Wayland’s snappiness and being modern but functionality is everything.

Check out LM Studio. Totally free and very nice GUI. You can do some very cool things with it. That and Kobold AI. Very simple self hosting no need for configuration either. Download and open essentially.

What a weak thing for such a big company to do. Censor the mention of an open source competitor that almost no one uses.
