PotatoesFall ,

For a second there, I saw it. Now it's just a fence again.

PotatoesFall ,

Agreed, shitty read. The 30% cut is crazy high though, and IMO the best point the article has. Steam DOES have a monopoly and that's inherently bad

PotatoesFall ,

I'm not saying Steam is the worst thing out there right now. I'm saying monopoly is inherently bad, and 30% is a crazy high cut even including the features you mentioned.

PotatoesFall ,

That's still a monopoly. The article says it too, if you don't put your game on steam, your sales suffer. It's similar to how spotify has a monopoly on the music streaming market.

PotatoesFall ,

and when you ask the other peasants if we should do something about it they just start licking those dangling boots

PotatoesFall ,

which, confusingly enough, is a linux subsystem under windows. The name sounds like the opposite.

PotatoesFall ,

I think there's probably some linux users that have never heard of WSL

PotatoesFall ,

nope. it's just a fancy word for a linux VM running on windows with special integrations like full file system access etc.

it's mainly used by developers who need to use windows for work but want a linux filesystem and command line for development. integrates well eith VSCode.

PotatoesFall ,

I think WSL was Microsofts way of trying to get developers to keep using Windows.

Best article about XZ backdoor?

Hey, I've been hearing a LOT about the xz backdoor. Crazy story, but rather than reading 10 different articles about it from 3 days ago when the story was quite new, does anybody know a high quality write-up that has all the juicy details and facts? I really like in-depth guides that cover every aspect of the story....

PotatoesFall ,

then why aren't we already doing that? Probably it's not as cost-effective? nuclear power is already crazy expensive.

That being said a very small amount of nuclear I'm fine with, just to make up for renewable fluctuation until we figure out power storage

PotatoesFall ,

In don't think we should federate either but most of that data is public anyway. Everything on mastodon and lemmy can be scraped without being federated.

PotatoesFall ,

The chance is higher that threads will add some features mastodon doesn't support and then people will leave mastodon for threads.

PotatoesFall ,

Your experience is very different from mine. Yoy make it sound rosy over there. In my experience all but a few subs have slipped to the right. I've seen blatantly racist top comments on racist-bait posts on multiple mainstream subs.

PotatoesFall ,

I'm glad it doesn't work, these comments are just spam to everybody but the poster.

PotatoesFall ,

It's private and you can verify that, not to mention it's non-profit. WhatsApp claims to be private but Meta has broken promises before and doesn't let us look at source code. It's not a "tiny bit"

PotatoesFall ,

joker chemicals? Did I miss another batman movie?

PotatoesFall ,

in some circles yeah.

In Germany it actually became famous because it allowed for huge groups and it's where covid misinformation breeding grounds took off. People thought you were a nutjob if you had telegram lol.

Which, while that is the dumbest reason to reject a chat app, at least meant that Signal was able to get more popular with uhhh smarter folks.

PotatoesFall ,

start a meme group. People may not want to install a chat app to talk to you, but they don't want to miss out on juicy memes.

this strategy worked for a few of my friends at least.

PotatoesFall ,

I imagine the morphine and diazepam will make the patient calm sleepy and maybe even euphoric?

PotatoesFall OP ,

Yeah fair there's loads of third party content for DnD. There is also for Pathfinder but not quite as much.

That being said, I've found the core system gives you more customization so there is not a constant need for outside content to keep the system interesting.

PotatoesFall OP ,

That only goes for Pathfinder 1. To be fair that still gets played a lot but imo Pathfinder 2 is the best TTRPG created yet.

PotatoesFall OP ,

Yeah if you have it go for it, better than letting those old books gather dust!

What I like about Pathfinder is that it's all free, so new players don't need to buy books at all before they can join.

PotatoesFall ,

You can play Pathfinder for free. The whole system, not just the core.

It's a better system.

Paizo is a better company.

I'm not omitting any context here. Pathfinder is the linux of the ttrpg world.

PotatoesFall ,

They already converted the core system, I have the GM Core and Player Core books.

That being said it's a minor remaster. all old content is compatible. My group has barely noticed the differences aside from a few naming differences. (There are more differences, I would say about 10-20% of the system changed, but it's not as confusing as that sounds)

PotatoesFall OP ,

Yep I definitely have!

PotatoesFall OP ,

phew, close one! Consider yourself lucky

PotatoesFall OP ,

bruh I done this shit past 20

PotatoesFall OP ,

I've had both happen. The first time I didn't piss myself I thought a miracle had happened.

PotatoesFall OP ,

I've had this in combination with sleep paralysis. Also my most panicked dream ever.

Basically I woke up in sleep paralysis, and then thought I had broken out of it when I had really just gone back to dreaming. It was my first time having sleep paralysis so I didn't know how to react.

The third time it happened my friend was there. Then I remembered I had already woken up twice and might still be dreaming. I had read about lucid dreaming and "reality checks" so I did a check with my hand and realized I was still dreaming. I had been wanting a lucid dream, but because it had been a nightmare so far, I got the coldest shiver down my spine as I looked at my friend, realizing "you're not real". I followed him into another room and confronted him. "You're not real". He gave me a super creepy smug stare and then suddenly im a split second he lunged at me, his mouth opening a meter wide as of he was gonna eat me in one bite.

I woke up drenched and out of breath, but I was nonetheless relieved to finally be awake.

PotatoesFall ,

honestly yeah. KDE takes forever to start and the Klauncher and main menu are so slow they always open the wrong apps. It's infuriating because otherwise it's a competent DE with great customizability.

PotatoesFall ,

Bluesky doesn't really have federation. It doesn't matter what server you're on, it's really just distributed hosting. Which is cool - but not as cool as federation.

this has become kind of a meme, I guess that justifies it?

Darknet Drug Dealers Arrested After Packages of Meth-Laced Adderall Repeatedly Returned to Sender (www.404media.co)

Police arrested three men accused of selling thousands of pills of meth-laced “Adderall” on various darknet marketplaces and mailing them through the United States Postal Service through a fictitious business called “Professional Paper Filing Inc.” that listed a real return address of an uninvolved business. That...

    PotatoesFall ,

This is definitely 110% laced. Meth is not amphetamine, its methamphetamine which has different effects and a VERY different duration, not to mention much higher addiction potential.

Sure they are both stimulants, but both heroin and carfentanyl are opioids.

Maybe you have been misled as to what laced means? It does not necessarily mean that it's deadly

    PotatoesFall ,

meth is neither of those chemicals. meth is methamphetamine which has different effects, more risks, is more addictive and has a MUCH longer duration.

    PotatoesFall ,

That is misinformation. methamphetamine is more addictive and has about twice the duration of amphetamine, not to mentiom different effects.

    PotatoesFall ,

I've never heard C-Person before, will definitely use that hahah

    PotatoesFall ,

Nobody because everybody knows this. Android is still not what people mean when they say linux
