Boeing Will Launch Starliner With Helium Leak (www.extremetech.com)

Boeing and NASA are moving ahead with the upcoming Starliner demonstration launch despite an active helium leak. The launch is now on the books for Saturday, June 1, at 12:25 p.m. EDT. If all goes as planned, Starliner will rendezvous with the International Space Station the following day and return to Earth on June 10. If not,...

First civilian

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan announced the Teacher in Space Project, and McAuliffe learned about NASA's efforts to find their first civilian, an educator, to fly into space.[20] NASA wanted to find an "ordinary person," a gifted teacher who could communicate with students while in orbit.[6][15] McAuliffe became one of more than 11,000 applicants.[ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christa_McAuliffe

Ya I've seen a bunch of this blatant bullshit spreading lately trying to re-frame the protests as being pro hamas when anyone with half a brain knows otherwise. Isreal's pr team must be working overtime.

I use freetube as well, but I have a feeling that it's just a matter of time before google brings the axe down on it too, especially if it increases in popularity.

Things like this are why I think the whole Facebook "encrypted messaging" thing is just a scam to try and look like they respect your privacy. It doesn't matter if you have the best encryption out there if the doors are wide open for them on either end and they're keylogging everything you do.

I feel for him, that's gotta be tough. I took in 10 strays, I can't even imagine having nearly three hundred of them.

I wonder why he didn't do something earlier? I know getting them fixed is expensive (it's going to be around $200 each for the 10 I have) but neither is 28kg a day for food. At least in my case I can keep the girls separated in the house as we slowly afford to get them done.

Ya I know I need to upgrade the hdd at the least, but no money for it. I've been taking care of two families of stray cats and getting them fixed so that's higher on the agenda. Maybe this fall or next spring it'll happen.

Do they really? (are worth something, I mean) I still have one upstairs in my house. I don't use it at all, I've just been using it to hold the house down in case of windy weather.

(actually I'm just too lazy to try and haul it out of the house and toss it.)

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

I knew they did better visually, I meant more that they're actually worth anything. The only reason I even still have this old thing is because it's bigger than my recycle bin and I have no urge even attempt to haul it away.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

Ah, not really planning on selling it anyway, I'd sooner just give it away to the unlucky bastard that would have to haul it off. I'm just surprised they'd be worth anything anyway. This thing is a 32 inch Sanyo

I haven't had a car with drums for a long time, but what I used to do was jack both sides up at the same time, place jack stands, but only do one side at a time. That way I had the other side available for reference in case something befuddled me.

And just to mention, https://charm.li/about.html has free online service manuals for almost every vehicle between 1982-2013 if you need one.

I updated my proton app recently and as I was updating it Microsoft edge updater tried installing updates as well for some reason.

I don't even have edge installed. I simply blocked it from having net access but still, they can go take a flying fuck at a rolling donut if they think I'm putting that on my system.

I'd like to flip to Linux, but I have an older nvidia card that doesn't play well with it, so until I upgrade some hardware win 10 will have to do. At least I'm firewalled so I can block their shit when it tries shenanigans like that.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

Nearly 10 now. Finding drivers wasn't an issue, but just couldn't get much performance out of them.

I'm probably going to update some stuff this summer and possibly flip to Amd so I'll probably try again then.

Edit: Found it on desktop, It's just not on the Mlmym interface.

Ah ok, I found the option on normal desktop, but apparently it's not on the Mlmym interface which I use the most.

Are you using Ublock, or Ublock Origin? Origin is the one you want.

Does Nvidia play better now with linux? I run a 14 yr old laptop (Asus k40in) but it's got Nvidia graphics, and it didn't work well last time I tried Linux on it. (several years ago now)

It's on 24/7, running win10 now and does ok, but I mainly use it for my yard cameras and light surfing when my main pc is busy doing other things.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

Ya it's not a huge concern as it runs rock solid for months at a time without even needing a reboot, but I would like to eventually toss windows in the virtual recyle bin at some point.

I have a few old hard drives kicking around, so I may swap one out one of these days and give it a shot just to try it and see how it goes.

Scam Numbers - Reddit's (and possibly the internet's) largest scam number depository, now on Lemmy! (lemmy.zip)

With almost 40k subscribers on Reddit, r/ScamNumbers is one of the most useful online databases for tracking down scam phone numbers. Some use the information for awareness, while others take advantage by prank calling scammers to waste their time....

My ex sent me a text asking a question, I didn't respond when I noticed it because she would have been asleep and promptly forgot about it. In three weeks it'll be two years.

I should wait until then and reply with a simple "Nope".

That's why I love my old Brother printer. I bought refillable cartridges for it and just refill as needed... I've had to reset the print counter once a few years back (supposedly it maxes at 15,000 prints?) but it is still going strong.

Sadly it sounds like the new brother printers are going the enshittification route too, so when this thing finally blows up I guess I'm going laser with a different company.

Rocketpoweredgorilla , (edited )
@Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca avatar

I can't find the article I had originally read but apparently yes. Even with the laser ones they are supposedly purposely lowering the print quality if non-oem is used. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31860131

I hope it's all just a misunderstanding, but I'm definitely going to have to look long and hard at what I'm going to replace mine with when the time comes.

I got a 9 volt battery three weeks ago for my multimeter, at home I put it aside somewhere the cats wouldn't get at it to play with it and lose it on me.

I haven't seen it since. I have no clue where I could have put the damned thing.

Rocketpoweredgorilla ,

Ya I picked up another one about a week ago now, so hopefully the first one shows up any day now.
