Rodeo ,

Every time my dad has something to say about me I say that.

Who was responsible for raising me again? YOU WERE, you judgemental turd.

Rodeo ,

It's not apathy, it's an observation of the legal status of the situation.

Legally, you have no reasonable expectations of privacy in a public space, and as such anyone is free to record you. I don't think fingerprint data being collected from devices available to the public has been tried in court yet, but audio and video recordings certainly have been.

It's actually a good thing. Imagine if it was illegal for you to video cops.

Rodeo ,

that's vandalism and can get you in trouble.

A simple sticker though, which can be easily removed, doesn't count as vandalism, and can be done over and over again for almost no cost.

Rodeo ,

I don't get why people like the microblig format. It's so terrible for anything more than snarky quips.

Rodeo ,

End thread.

Rodeo ,

I bet half of them are Facebook's Threads.

Rodeo ,

they post updates of things they are making (music, games, and comics mostly); and they share photos that they've taken, and links and comments to news that they find interesting. Compared to Lemmy, it's more personal, because when you respond you are talking directly to a person that you are likely to talk to again.

You can do all that same stuff on Lemmy/reddit, except the comments are actually organized and readable. Trying to read a continuous comment thread on Twitter is such a pain.

Rodeo ,

I can't stand the actor's gross smokers voice, but she was an awesome character and her voice actually kind of fit with it. It's harsh and untempered, just like the character.

Rodeo ,

Literally every example OP gave predates the hunger games.

Rodeo ,

I agree, I think it would be pretty foolish to assume there was nobody behind the memes but the people. Here we all are denouncing Swift when she was actually spreading a good message about getting out to vote.

Rodeo ,

We barely have an army
The economy is lousy
But all that doesn't matter 'cause
Canada's really big!

Rodeo ,

But they're not even free. The Romans gave the bread and cicuses for free.

Rodeo ,

So if I take a whole gram I can get 10000 times higher?

Rodeo ,

It cracks me up how a scale of one to ten is always actually a scale of six to ten. Or maybe five to ten of they really hate the thing.

Rodeo ,

I work in trades and I actively avoid that "camaraderie", because 99% of the guys are total douchebags whose idea of camaraderie is completely misplaced.

Rodeo ,

The fix to being broke is to get more money.

Rodeo ,

German cable providers cheaped out and didn't upgrade their infrastructure for quite a while.

This is always the real reason.

Rich people being cheap.

Rodeo ,

But it's not a good solution. In fact it's not a solution at all. EVs aren't going to save the environment, they're going to perpetuate our reliance on personal vehicles.

Rodeo ,

Oh my go that's literally the point of my whole comment. You stated that EVs are a good solution. They are not a solution at all.

It's not a matter of perfect being the enemy of good, it's a matter of people mistakenly thinking that personal EVs are a solution. They are not a solution at all, they only serve as placebo to make people feel good while while continuing the same habits and relying on the same infrastructure that caused all this in the first place.

That was literally the point. Continuing with the same sprawling, oversized infrastructure built for personal, usually single-occupancy vehicles is not going to solve climate change. We are so far gone the only real, actual, solutions are in fact drastic, society changing measures. So your solution is for us to keep doing the same thing we already are but with 20% less pollution? While the earth is already past the 1.5C global warming mark? If that's your best solution then it's not a solution.

EVs are here to save the automobile, not the environment.

Rodeo ,

I wonder what happened to him in March 1997

Rodeo ,

But this growth can mean two things: higher living standards for its population or a more complex economy.

"A more complex economy" is a great euphemism for the rich getting richer while the masses languish.

Rodeo ,

The article states that the money has been put up, then it talk a lot about "Historically Black Colleges and Universities" but doesn't actually state that the money is going to those universities.

In fact, it states that the money is going to the CHIPS program of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and then also states that HBCUs have their program called CHIPS.

The article is misleading and a bit confusing and makes it seem like the money is going to HBCUs when in fact it is going to NIST.

Rodeo ,

I read an article from NIST itself about it, and that does indeed seem to be the case.

Rodeo ,

Is pen testing a visual test now?

How does the physical appearance of the device affect its electronic penetration?

Rodeo ,

Interesting. It sounded kind of ridiculous to me, I guess I didn't consider gaining access to a building or something.

Rodeo ,

11 year old me was given a bearskin rug and I hated it because it was a dead animal.

Funny thing though, I'm a butcher now.

Rodeo ,

Not really, I barf a lot. That's why don't drink anymore! I've embarrassed myself a few too many times.

Rodeo ,

So not at all based in science? Interesting as a historical curiosity but nothing more?

Rodeo ,

Perhaps "historical curiosity" was a little obtuse of me.

Media study on Gen Alpha kids show 'purposeful participation' over 'mindless consumption' of media and increased privacy consciousness over previous gen (variety.com)

Media study on Gen Alpha kids show 'purposeful participation' over 'mindless consumption' of media and increased privacy consciousness over previous gen::Gen Alpha kids are protective of their personal data online and enjoy media that allows them to control their experiences with content.

Rodeo ,

Every new generation is shit, but guess what, they aren't ones in power. If you want change it's the boomer in charge who you should be talking about. This is the world they built, it's not the kids fault they're inheriting a burning house.

Rodeo ,

I feel like that's the kind of commodification Watterson would have frowned upon.

Rodeo ,

Yes it is. He went and paid for a licensed image for which he did not have the rights, with the intention of displaying it to society.

That's the epitome of commodification.

The idea that tattoos are personal and therefore don't count as commodities is bogus. Personal effects are still very much commodities.

If Watterson didn't want Calvin and Hobbes on a t shirt or a coffee mug, why would you think he wants it on a tattoo?

Rodeo ,

How can they know it's your data without first collecting your data to compare it?

"Give us your personal information so we can ask others to delete your personal information" just doesn't sound like a trustworthy offer.

Rodeo ,

With all due respect it was not so apt as usury is specifically charging interest, not fees.

Rodeo ,

She was looking for the planet from whence came the chess playing supercomputer that beat Garry Kasparov.

Rodeo ,

So it's just like real life.

Those who argue for change are ridiculed.

Rodeo ,

Birds are not reptiles. They are different taxonomic classes and have significant differences in physiology and genetics.

Birds are warm blooded, reptiles are cold blooded.
Birds have feathers and skin, reptiles have scales.
Birds have two wings and two legs, reptiles have four legs.

Those are a few of the obvious differences.

Rodeo ,

Clearly it's the clueless middle managers above you whose jobs are bullshit.

Rodeo ,

What replacements are you looking at for the Fitbit?

Rodeo ,

Dang I was hoping there was something you could tell me.

Pinetime (or timeline, can't remember which) might suit you, but I don't think it's ready for me. I don't want another tinker device, I want something that just works, but I also don't want a corporate spy device. I think I'm outta luck until pinetime is complete.

Rodeo ,

With how popular they've been for years, I'd be honestly surprised if they hadn't enshittified. Reddit got a hard on for them like ten years ago.

Rodeo ,

PC LOAD LETTER

Rodeo ,

That's what I'm still doing now. I upgraded the RAM a couple years ago and the GPU last year, both with cheap older parts that were about $100.

The main problem I've run into so far is that Blender no longer runs since they only support CPUs ten years old or newer. But I don't do that stuff anymore really anyway.

Rodeo ,

They exist and they're called "utility kilts."

Rodeo ,

I did not realize that. And I also didn't bother to look that up, so thanks for the info.

Rodeo ,

Ah, so it's the "get a better job" take, is it?

If every grocery worker in town gets a better job, who is going to stock the shelves? When the stores close because they have no staff, where are YOU going to get you groceries from?

You NEED grocery workers. The economy NEEDS grocery workers. So they deserve to be paid well.

Rodeo ,

I've literally never once had a swivel head razor that didn't work.

It really seems like a stretch to make this into a skill issue lol
