Literally just picked up a new laptop and immediately uninstalled windows 11. Drivers will be fiddly but it's already working fine.

I will never use the privacy ffest that is win 11.

blahsay ,

Hmmm I couldn't get it to boot off the usb till I'd set up win11. I didn't know I could refund w11 or I'd have tried harder!

blahsay ,

I'm kinda scared to ask but is there actually a Christian version of Ubuntu or is this just ripping on mint or something

blahsay ,

Holy craaaaap.

blahsay ,

Hah actually yes thanks

blahsay ,

It's funny how the people writing comics like these don't see that they are perpetuating a stereotype themselves.

blahsay ,

White people are all racist would be one stereotype shown here but there's a few

blahsay ,

That's a racial generalisation...otherwise known as racism.

The thing they're complaining about in the comic...

blahsay ,

You got it. Racism is treating people differently based on race.

The only way to end it is to stop drawing on differences.

blahsay ,

You got it.

We can't beat racism by continually pointing out racial differences. This is just more racism and isn't helpful.

blahsay ,

Casual racism through generalisation you say? You really can't see how that works both ways?

blahsay ,

I dislike racism its true.

blahsay OP ,

True! It's not like we're paid unless you count the occasional dead lizard

blahsay ,

In fairness a good set of chisels is important for fine stone work.

blahsay ,

They had decent steel back then but you're right. They probably had to have a wheel grinder nearby or it would have been painfully slow.

blahsay ,

Toshiba oddly enough. I've been burnt by the big names like Seagate a few times now.

blahsay ,

If the user can't figure it out you built it wrong

blahsay ,

Factoring in intuitive functions is part of proper engineering

blahsay ,

Self checkouts are the worst! Perfect example of bad engineering. I had the shower thought the other day that perhaps they design them to be slow and crappy so they can gather more biometric and video data of us at the checkout 🤔

Seriously though there is a whole branch of hardware engineering that specialises in making things intuitive and user friendly....even for the special needs (apple customers)

blahsay ,

The scales are always off and unnecessary anyway. They factor shrinkage into the price.

blahsay ,

Plug it in and use it you say?

Google apologizes for ‘missing the mark’ after Gemini generated racially diverse Nazis::Google says it’s aware of historically inaccurate results for its Gemini AI image generator, following criticism that it depicted historically white groups as people of color.

I hope no one tells her you can learn from suffering too.

    blahsay ,

Chinese trolls and bots are not your imagination.

Facebook is wildly unpopular on here and you're still being downvoted

    blahsay ,

This could be a 'works better on chrome popup'. Instead it's a hard block

    blahsay ,

Fine I'll stop misleading people about 10g.

In other news have you heard about our 11g network?

    blahsay ,

It's time for Google to die. They are a truly awful company now so it's time to take her down to the shed like ol' blockbuster

Women STEM students up to twice as likely as non-STEM students to have experienced sexism (www.hepi.ac.uk)

We know that women students and staff remain underrepresented in Higher Education STEM disciplines. Even in subjects where equivalent numbers of men and women participate, however, many women are still disadvantaged by everyday sexism. Our recent research found that women who study STEM subjects at undergraduate level in England...

    blahsay ,

You're being disingenuous. The study posted relates to sexism at university where stem subjects are predominantly female.

Workforce stats /= University stats which I think you're aware.

    blahsay , (edited )

Your own damn link contradicts that bullshit stem bachelor degree stat.

I'd search for another but people shooting themselves in the foot amuses me to no end 😂

    blahsay , (edited )

Your Yale link is nonsense as I think you're aware. Your original link shows a closer stat to reality though it's based on 2020 data - currently stem is predominantly female.

Interesting; you have to dig past the usual misandry sites to find an impartial source but Pew research found 53% of stem graduates female in 2018 and rising.

    https://www.pewresearch.org/science/2021/04/01/stem-jobs-see-uneven-progress-in-increasing-gender-racial-and-ethnic-diversity/

You can also just check unis individually.

    blahsay ,

Nah you're still being disingenuous. The stats don't lie - even the stats you provided 😂.

I would have thought you'd be happy to see stem taken over by women. Though if you were actually interested in equality you'd also be worried about why men aren't applying. That's a real problem - for women too.

"Women earned 53% of STEM college degrees in 2018, smaller than their 58% share of all college degrees." - Pew research

    blahsay ,

Yep, pretty much. Slightly more women in stem these days and rising.

    blahsay ,

44% is workforce stem. This article deals with university stats.

    The relevant data is:

In STEM fields, the pipeline is leakiest in life science, psychology and social science fields, which are female-dominated at the undergraduate level — the female share of degree recipients in these fields was 58% at the doctoral level compared with 66% at the bachelor’s level in 2017. In contrast, the four fields with the lowest female shares among bachelor’s degrees recipients — geoscience, engineering, economics, and computer science — have higher female representation among PhD recipients (see here).

    blahsay ,

As you said 'there is a slight over-representation of women in STEM (degrees earned) overall'

My statement was that there's more women in stem at uni these days.

These seem to align to me.
