When you're clients are a handful of companies who will more aggressively change insurers than consumers to save a penny and have their own legal teams, it becomes harder to price gouge or illegally deny claims.

WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Has it reached 25+ years for me yet? Somewhere around there.

Based on which definition?

I feel like by most commonly used definitions I would be. About half my income (before taxes) goes into savings, my position is considered management, I make between 75%-200% of median national income, I have a graduate degree.

I don't make half that rate though.

Not sure I think middle class is a useful method of classification though, but still curious why that specific number.

WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Picked my area and 29K puts you in the middle class, which is like $13/hr, and its pretty close to the national average for COL.

Does this just make trans people not trans and make cis people trans and give them dysphoria? Only changing the mind, not the body? If so, then what does this do to NBies? Would more agender NBies become poly gender, gender fluid enbies become gender solid, and multi gender enbies become a gender?

Was the tradeoff meant to be specifically difficult for ace trans people?

that doesn’t mean you can afford to build out a charging station at your own home.

You you suggesting its normal for people to not have outlets at their house but own electric cars? Haven't outlets been standard for decades in homes?

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

How many feet of extension cord will a home owners association let be seen drug out on the front lawn?
PVC pipe and a small shovel are cheap. Easily fixed in an afternoon. Not exactly fun and assumes the person is physically able to do that.

What if there are no exterior outlets?
Most homes do, at least where I'm at. If they're in the back, that might not be practical still. Depending on the situation, adding a outlet could be less than $100. Which, if you can afford an electric car and gasoline, should be pretty affordable. But adding a dedicated circuit would certainly add more expense.

You going to leave a window open with an extension cord fed through it? Maybe fine if you live somewhere without neighbors… probably a good way to get robbed otherwise.

People put entire AC's in their windows. There's ways to ways to lock windows that are partially open 100% of the time.

What is the exterior outlets were shittily installed and are aren’t rated for whatever your particular flavor of electric vehicle you purchased?

If its just the outlets, fix it. A GCFI is like $20? So just replace them if they aren't already GCFI. Bigger issue is amps in the circuit. Unless it happens to be on a 20amp+ circuit, there's not really room for other things to run at the same time I think and it would probably be better off on its own. Also, if you have a lot of people there and have two vehicles you want to charge overnight, each would need its own circuit.

    Live in an apartment complex?
Then its not your home to be building a charging station at. A lot of apartments in the last couple years around here have been adding charging stations (including the one I'm at).

Of course situations vary. So, its not always practical or cheap. But you don't need a fancy level 2 charging station to charge a plug-in hybrid.

Laser death rays are probably effective at preventing them from voting, but also may lead to the laser death ray user to not being able to vote either. So probably not worth it.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Due low voter turnout, it should probably be at least 6 just to be safe if you're in the US or UK (95% confidence interval wouldn't include 0 or 1 voter, assuming 60% turnout)

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

    Badeline isn't evil I thought.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

At least online, it seems like the only Americans who call themselves far left agree those are all centrist positions. It's only "centrists/progressives*" (moderately far right Americans) and other flavors of far right who still often dont generally call themselves far right (trump enthusiasts, alex jones types, proud boy types) who label basic things like universal health care a far left idea or just call it impractical atm.

*I feel like 10 years ago, people who were at least moderately left were the main people using this term, but in the last few years, people right of center have been using the label to try limit progress by pretending they're just trying to be practical/realists about what can actually be done.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

You could do more than hope. A start could be just making lists, categorizing common communities. At least with that, someone could just go through and block or sub to all the coms within a category. No specialized knowledge needed.

W11 also has an annoying snap behavior between monitors, which may have led to that decision. My left monitor is 720p and my main is 4K. On W10, I kept the monitors aligned at the top and it made it really easy to land on the bottom left corner of the main screen. Now it jumps up to the left monitor doing the same thing.

However if people vote uncommitted in the primaries because they are convinced Biden is Genocide Joe then they aren’t going to want to vote for Biden in the general election.

If he changes policy, why not? People can make mistakes. Ideally, I'd rather not support someone who has such a past history and I'd be skeptical that the change is a long-term change rather than just trying to appeal to voters in the short-term, but given the other likely outcome, someone it certainly would be a lot better outcome.

Both of my roommates own a switch and I'm welcome to use them. If I'm gonna play, I'll just use those. Still, I'm people.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

I figure there's enough differences that they want to scare protentional devs from making the changes needed for it to work on Switch 2. They knew that getting rid of an existing open source emulator wasn't really possible, but is a new one is not made, then its not just a matter of sharing copies.

But given that consoles are becoming more and more PC-like, I wonder how hard it will be to make an emulator anyways.

Pretty sure AT&T in the US requires the use of their "U-verse" modems with a lot of their internet options. I think comcast locked unlimited data behind using their modem unless you wanted to pay more for the unlimited data than they charge for the modem. I never tried turning on bridge mode on them though, so no clue if that's enabled or not.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

You give a discount if people use windows?

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

But AT&T does or at least did. You can/could put it in bridge mode though and use a secondary one.

For Comcast, I never said you can't just get unlimited. Just that it cost more than getting the modem with unlimited:
    https://www.xfinity.com/learn/internet-service/data
$25/month for modem+unlimited while its $30/month for unlimited. Cheaper to take the modem even if you don't use it.

Its pretty cool. Number go up is exciting.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Given how many years its been since the first 100TB SSD released, anything short of 200TB seems kinda meh. Honestly kinda figured we'd be past the 400TB mark at this point, but I guess those sizes simply aren't that interesting from a business perspective even if just as a halo product not meant to actually sell much.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

You are probably expected to buy like 100+ of these at a time.

What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?

A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.

Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Groceries stores are usual huge. If you just want a single item, could still be 10+ minutes from getting to the edge of the parking lot to getting back to the edge of the parking lot with that one item. With a convenience store, its like 3 minutes.

Personally, I still rather go to the grocery store since they're generally a lot cheaper and have more options.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

As someone in Texas, convenience store and gas station are interchangable words in my mind. A dollar store would be what I'd call a convenience store that doesn't sell gas.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Convenience/grocery stores still would exist. Buccees is probably better suited to becoming local grocery stores than most gas stations and superstores in terms of size. They just wouldn't be a regional attraction and wouldn't require crossing a sea of concrete to get to the store.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Why would you carry a lawn mower to the gas station?

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

What if you preferred koolaid bursts and just didn't drink capri suns?

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Kinda? But not really. Sorta like sexual orientation.

Memes about calling others eggs are often controversial. Most of the memes are either just general trans memes that aren't really egg-specific or people making fun of their own egginess.

Just use version history to undo autosaves if needed. Which at least some basic level of VH to include the last manual save should be part of writer/calc/word/excel imo. But its easy to use other software to handle version history so you can do restores.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Even if its on by default, first thing you should do when installing or first using it is adjust the settings imo. How often is still a matter of personal choice. And other settings are as well. Granted, I get I'm probably far from the average given how much I like to tinker with settings and customizing toolbars, etc. Still agree it should be on by default along with some basic version history to undo unwanted autosaves.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

the range of the truck is definitely longer than the range of the EV

Depends on the truck and EV. Compare a Regular Cab F150 Raptor to a Lucid Air Pure, and the EV probably gets more range. Obviously looking for edge cases that probably aren't the case in Scrumbbles's story, but there's no way you can know the EV's range is shorter from their post. In a couple years, we might have 1000 mile range EVs delivered to customers (and cheaper than the Lucid Air), in which case the range would be more than the majority of ICE vehicles.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Some EVs are pretty good solutions. They're just not cars. They're trains and bikes.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

I think W11 should ideally run fine on a 2006 PC, but I don't think there's any reason to expect a computer that old to continue to get support. Still would have been annoyed if they had nixxed booting 4th gen or 6th gen, but that would be my fault for running W11 on devices without official support to begin with.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

IMO, it'll probably still be slow at a lot of things. The gen-6 i5-U laptops we at my job use have SSDs and 8GB ram (granted, also running windows because required for some software) and they're still really slow compared to things like my personal desktop and laptop. Boot times are fine at least, but web browsing isn't as quick and responsive as I'm used to (<2 seconds per page). They probably take more like 10 pages to load pretty basic pages (no videos).

Still, probably a ton faster with an SSD than without one.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Specific software requirements for work is the main reason for me.

Also, last time I used linux, it kept breaking, so I had to reinstall the OS about once a month and I had no clue what kept breaking it.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Gen-1 through Gen-7 CPUs also still work despite lack of TPM. If it was about trying to force the TPM thing, even just using AXV2 instruction requirement would have limited it to only Gen4-7 running without TPM. I'm sure there's other ways they could try to limit installs with the TPM-check disabled.

    WalrusDragonOnABike ,

Been a while since I looked, but last time I checked around me, the starting price for any work like that was like $200 (maybe it was less?). Not exactly worth it for a $300 phone that's already aging unless you need data off it or something. Granted, YMMV with pricing.
