And hopefully in the future they won't even he able to see the domain. I wonder why they never considered giving out certificates for IPs to solve this problem. Seemed like the easiest solution to me.

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

Yeah, but often enough multiple sites share a single IP. It would already be better if the ISP (and everyone in between) didn't know whether I wanted pink-fluffy-unicorns.com or hardcore-midget-bdsm.com.

SNI says no.

Yeah, that's what I meant originally. But I still don't know how to enable that in my Apache. My Google-Fu isn't good enough. All I see is ads for CDNs and conflicting information about whether it's supported in Apache or not.

BTW: The game is currently on sale at gog.com for 99 Cents. Wanted to replay it and buying it was easier than digging out my discs or piracy.

Don't know. Lutris offered to install the Community Update so that's what I did. Direct3D 10 seemed to work best for me. But I have only walked a little bit around the tutorial so far.

Many refugees from Syria got poisoned by mushrooms because a common edible Syrian mushroom looks very much like a poisonous German mushroom.

You did it. You convinced me to install it again. I even dreamt about it the other day.

I think the init system is the best part of systemd. It is sooo easy to use. You don't have to write the same complicated shell script for your software like everyone else. You just give systemd the path to your executable and that's basically it. It does the rest and you don't have to worry about PID files or forking the actual software. Systemd basically runs it like you did while developing it.

I think what people don't like are all the other parts of systemd that seem to be tightly coupled. I don't know if it is even possible to run just the systemd init without any other systemd package.

The last time I got angry at systemd was when resolvd did some DNS shit I did not approve of.

Aren't the dogs in those funny videos often abused to act the correct way?

I'm not a dog expert, but shouldn't its tail be wagging like crazy at the prospect of delicious food? And many dogs like brokkoli anyways.

Holy shit, I'm German and now I can't hear what he really said.

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

I'm too lazy to look up the details. But you can have a small ssh server running as part of initrd. I think it's dropbear. I log into that and unlock the root drive from there.

Of course that necessitates an unencrypted /boot/.

Did it on Debian and it was relatively easy to set up.

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

I don't reboot my server that often. But I think I use a dedicated port and key for it. I don't use them anywhere else. Maybe the key has to be a specific format for Dropbear.

I once worked from my bed while I had a mild cold. Had a meeting with many international colleagues from all over Europe. I fell asleep. Luckily I had my camera and mic off. And it was about interfacing with SAP which I needed no help with.

I used to work at a company that used XSLT. They know that it's an obscure language that probably none of the potential candidates have ever worked with. But it's easy enough to learn the basics in an hour or two.

So the entry test was to strip some tags from an XML file. You had a day or two (maybe more) to do it. My solution wasn't ideal, I didn't use several of the shortcuts available in the language. But at least it did what it was supposed to.

A few weeks after I had started working there my boss came up to me, visibly frustrated and asked me whether the test was too hard. Thinking back on my problems I replied that maybe having the desired output ready so that you could test your own solution against it might be nice. But my boss's problem was that none of the last 5 candidates could even send in a solution that would run.

You had so much time, and running an XSLT script is really easy and takes no time at all. And for some inane reason these people couldn't even manage to test their code and still decided to send it in.

And I thought I was an idiot when I didn't know if it was spelled grey or gray in CSS during the in-person interview.

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

I wanted to answer "grey", full of confidence. Then I decided to look it up to be sure and found out that it's "gray".

The test was to spot mistakes in a simple html file. So I couldn't substitute anything. And my favourite gray color is .

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

It just came up in a discussion. The test was to spot mistakes in some HTML code. I marked the "gray". The guy I did it with said that that's not a mistake. At least he thinks it's not. We were musing about that for a minute and later found out that I was wrong. Nothing major. I just felt stupid about it.

I felt especially stupid because he seemed to be rather important. While everyone's e-mail address was firstname.lastname@company.tld his was joe@company.tld.

But he was just a nice guy and apparently I did well and got my rather high salary approved.

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

And people who like systemd just thought of the first part of the answer which is exactly what the asker ended up doing.

Which is basically the same as the runit way while putting everything in the user's directory.

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

lol, I didn't even attempt to read the full thing. But now you made me curious.

But only curious. I don't feel smart enough to read and comprehend the entire thing.

Hardware drivers aren't closed either. All drivers of the first Steam Deck are in the mainline kernel by now. The drivers for the OLED version will follow. If you can't wait for mainline support you can get the sources from Valve and patch them in yourself.

bjoern_tantau ,

:-D I plan to do the opposite when my Deck comes back from repairs. I want to install OpenSUSE on it to have more control.

Considering how low its energy consumption is it should actually make a good little home server. I think some people use it as a home theatre PC that can also play games that is constantly hooked up to the TV.

For SSH the ProxyJump directive is awesome. Have one server reachable from outside and then use it to jump to all the others.

Don't need it. I already lie in bed all day.

Both rule (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Two (presumably) girls lying in bed holding hands and looking at each other. The one on the left, labeled "Me" has shoulder-length hair, an uncomfortable :| expression, and is wearing a black hoodie, grey jeans, and sneakers. The one on the right, labeled "Also me" has longer hair, a subtle smile, a blush, and is wearing a dress...

OP, that's absolutely disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself! Take those fucking shoes off before going to bed!

Did you think about automating the certificate generation? You could put everything into a cron script. That's more or less the reason why certificates have such a short lifetime. To force automation.

It's nice. You can visit the cave where all its parts were collected. Apparently this cave has also been a popular party location for the intellectual elites so you can find graffiti of famous German artists and philosophers next to stone age archeology.

And I remember the toilets in the tourist house thingy being nice.

My favourite cigarette smoking area is my mouth.

What is a simple server solution for Jellyfin and Nextcloud?

I have a really bad "server" (just a laptop) that runs Fedora Server and uses Docker Compose to host Jellyfin. It has been very annoying to update (the web GUI for Fedora doesn't even work half of the time), updating is painful, and it's a pain to manage. I am trying to redo my entire setup, so I will be getting a NAS to store...

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

If your laptop is bad because it is slow I would try to stay away from GUI tools. Do as much as possible (ideally everything) from the command line. A server is usually supposed to be tucked away somewhere without a monitor or keyboard and mouse attached to it. Happily doing its job and only that.
