eldavi , to Technology in Key misinformation “superspreaders” on Twitter: Older women

i had this cuban moreno friend who was overly proud of his spanish heritage and would make fun of my chicano spanish sometimes. each time he did it in public, i would shut him up by asking someone in the group which one of us was latino which one was american; my garden variety mexican looks always got picked as latino and his afrocubano ass got picked as american. it was especially delicious if the person i asked knew that he could speak spanish.

i thoroughly enjoyed using american racism to put him in his place and it's probably the only time in my life where that racism worked to my advantage. lol

yes obviously I have to choose bad over worse.

we'll all be doing this for the rest of our lives thanks to this system and it still leads us to the same place that the worse option does, but at a slower pace.

do you know where?

eldavi , to linuxmemes in making fun of windows is our most treasured tradition

Linux user, still tweaking colors and theme options in their DE after 4 years: Let me finish setting up my device!

switch to gnome; customizations are intentionally buried because a huge majority of users don't go very deep w with them.

eldavi , to Technology in How to opt out of the privacy nightmare that comes with new Hondas

i’ve learned the hard way that the aftermarket makers have learned that planned obsolescence makes them more $$$ and going for similarly aged infotainment systems work longer than many of the new stuff

eldavi , to Technology in How to opt out of the privacy nightmare that comes with new Hondas

add to that list better gas mileage than most new cars of the same type and i feel the same way bout my '08 ranger. i've had to upgrade the infotainment system 3x already because of the planned obsolescence built into them.

eldavi , to Technology in How to opt out of the privacy nightmare that comes with new Hondas

and here i was thinking that i was ahead of the curb with my 16 year old car because it gets better gas mileage than most new cars of the same type.

eldavi , to Technology in How to opt out of the privacy nightmare that comes with new Hondas

i like the police warnings and the apps that automatically look for a better route in real time when there's traffic; which means i'll be keeping my already 16 year old car until i die or parts run out, i guess

eldavi , to Technology in How to opt out of the privacy nightmare that comes with new Hondas

useless infotainment screens that can’t do anything but playing mp3 off a USB stick

i had a similar thought a while ago and it feels like we're regressing back to the 90's

eldavi , to Technology in How to opt out of the privacy nightmare that comes with new Hondas

If they still don’t care, then so be it.

it's not that they don't care; it's that they don't understand the impact it has on their life and i'm convinced this is true of everything.

eldavi , (edited ) to Technology in Senate passes TikTok ban bill, sending it to Biden, who has already committed to signing it

sure, now that it's politically popular; nevermind that they did nothing to make that a reality and made it worse instead of standing up for us after promising that they would.

eldavi , to Technology in ByteDance won't sell TikTok, would rather pull it from the US

algorithm is a word employed here to help dumb down the concept of the IP that people will want to buy from tiktok; no one means a literal algorithm.

eldavi , to Technology in ByteDance won't sell TikTok, would rather pull it from the US

they use the same algorithm across all of their companies so selling it would create a strong competitor and the chinese government is likely to block the sale anyways. tiktok revenue is a small slice of bytedance's income, so it makes sense to swallow the relatively small loss to keep their product intact when it's crystal clear that it's far superior to anything else atm.
