electricprism ,

Right, like if I want a tablet in my car I will just get a dash mount arm and throw whatever current gen tablet on it. I don't need it as a part of the car.

electricprism ,

Browser based photo editing as a SaaS is haram.

electricprism ,

IPFS let's gooooooo

electricprism ,

Also, when can we get Internet over Radio? Good luck stopping waves bouncing off the stratosphere. Such a tech would immediately end censorship and lawfare using physics and science.

electricprism ,

It's a instant messenger that uses email as the backbone.

Kind of like how SMS and MMS was bootstrapped to a telephone number.

Eg: Chat@FirstLast.com

Matrix client for Android for family and friends. Your experiences.

I want to migrate my friends to self-hosted Matrix server I have for some time now. The problem is, that all Android clients seem missing for me. Element is too buggy (especially for encryption) and has bad UX. Element X is still experimental and lacks core features. FluffyChat has most features and nice ones like stickers, but...

electricprism ,

I wish they organized the rooms list on android better.

I favorite person to person and rooms I admin and the random rooms I am in push the rooms I care about down all the time.

electricprism ,

Pot trying to call out Kettle.

F. Doubt.

electricprism ,

Anyone see if self hosted server ever got easy enough? For realsies.

electricprism ,

I agree, however in the same spirit of email I would be pissed if Gmail blocked AOL or Yahoo suddenly someday "coz reasons" -- I prefer to stick to the 'federate all the things' plan -- let the baddies fail because they suck

electricprism ,

He's probably referencing that influencers of all platforms are paid to push propaganda to their followers by various state actors.

electricprism ,

Anything with Bluetooth is a ID vector.

And since Apple AirTag tech is a thing there are other ID capabilities.

Maybe a Faraday bag to cut all radio.

electricprism ,

So people are starting to understand Bluetooth is a weapon? Cool beans.

electricprism ,

How is Mozilla literally not controlled opposition? Their main source of income used to be Google.

How are they not just a antitrust prop so Google doesn't get split up by the EU.

electricprism ,

The echo chamber is strong. I am a big popularizer of that phrase for at least 2 years now. Agreed. Still the questions had to be asked to keep the concern alive.

electricprism ,

Partially yes, the other concern would be who does the DNS lookups? In my opinion there should be no DNS monopoly so there is no single point of failure if captured.

The entire concept of DNS is predicated on decentralization too.

electricprism ,

Anybody wire up a Proxigram to Fedi scraper for various accounts?

Public safety, fire department and several others I miss, NOAA, earthquake etc...

electricprism ,

Soooo how to split the packets up between 3 VPNs to make each providers piece useless?

electricprism ,

Jokes on them I block them on the DNS level.

I'm making a list, and I'll be checking it thrice lol.

Gonna ban all major sites and IPs. The Internet used to be about the small guy not the downtown.

Finally deleted my LinkedIn account!

After putting my account into "hibernation" for the past few weeks, I finally closed it. But I'm still looking for work. Thankfully I can still find positions (SRE and software dev) by just going directly to the company's site and finding a Jobs page.

Good luck to everyone else out there looking for work!

Microsoft owns LinkedIn

electricprism ,

Soooo the data on your phone isn't gone because you delete or reset the phone. You literally need to write a blob of zeros or random numbers to fill the space again.

And even that is questionable as there are areas of the storage you are not allowed to write too -- and those areas could contain identifiable data like contacts, SMS, etc...

Just a FYI

electricprism ,

Just make a bot to randomly click on everything to poison the algorithm.

Come to think of it, make some VM's spin up each with a different identity to monkey wrench it all.

electricprism ,

Say what you want about old timers but [ Notebook and Pencil ] has a 100% success rate if the attacker doesn't have physical access.

electricprism ,

Convenience and Security are different goals. You can either put security before or after convenience.

electricprism ,

PEBKAC isn't really an argument greater than a Strawman. If you're saying operators can't be trusted to be competent you might as well argue that these people shouldn't own computers or cellphones, or kitchen knifes or other things that require a minimum competence.

electricprism ,

It would be better if it was randomly generated, I'm looking at you CoralApples216

electricprism ,

There's this youtuber that goes around and films people in public, its funny because people get mad but most people in cities are already being filmed hundreds of times a day.

The message is the same, if you are worried about X vector you should really think about YZ first for it to make sense.

electricprism ,

This question really begs the point that cam and mic need kill switches that physically disconnect these things with a simple switch.

One of you go make a wall mounted light switch thing with a red LED for Workstations and sell it -- I could see this becoming standard.

Laptop world is going to take more inroads from slacker hackers scratching their own itch.

electricprism ,

Fuck Microsoft for buying GitHub. As expected they have made good into garbage.

electricprism ,

Thanks chat for restoring my faith in you.

Yes Google search is more useless now than when it was before spiders when it was simply a directory index.

Pot (Google) & Kettle (DDG), they're both shitty controlled opposition under the new Cable TV Death Grip. The Internet is enshitified, I guess we fucked up killing cable, the parasites simply followed along and made this shit too.

electricprism ,

Thanks to UEFI and other onboard chips, Intel ME, PSP much bigger fish to fry for sure.

Reddit Signs AI Content Licensing Deal Ahead of IPO (www.bloomberg.com)

Reddit Signs AI Content Licensing Deal Ahead of IPO::Reddit Inc. has signed a contract allowing a company to train its artificial intelligence models on the social media platform’s content, according to people familiar with the matter, as it nears the potential launch of its long-awaited initial public offering.

electricprism ,

Problem is Reddit content and votes aren't all human so unless they kept a record of which parts are just chatbots and which votes were faked its not exactly useful to train on in a pure sense.

Considering the disinformation wars and botnets between the big countries its hard to even get a idea of what people really think and what is bullshit and what isn't.

In any case I'm glad reddit has fucked themselves. This small corner of sanity is a bastion in a shit blizzard.

electricprism ,

Take a page from gnome and make the G silent for "reasons" ; P

electricprism ,

Last time I checked when GME blew up AMC was owned by China.

Considering the article Zero Surprise. Context matters. ( Also I didn't down-vote you just so you know)

electricprism ,

You seem like a top bloke I would grab a beer with, cheers mate

DuckDuckGo Introduces E2EE Backup and Sync Feature on Browser (restoreprivacy.com)

The project announced today the introduction of a new feature called “Sync & Backup,” which allows users to import bookmarks, passwords, and personal settings from other browsers to DuckDuckGo. Moreover, it enables users to move that data from one device to another or restore it on a new device in case they lose their...

electricprism ,

Agree. I find solace in SearXNG -- https://baresearch.org

But these past few years the search algorithms have changed to be anticonsumer and now users are using social sites to get information fast.

In effect the Internet has taken the place of Cable News and been ruined and dumbed down.
