    ‘Mamma Mia!’ Stage Star Sara Poyzer Replaced By AI On BBC Show To Recreate Voice Of Dying Person — Update (deadline.com)

    The BBC has issued a statement that offers important context to Sara Poyzer’s viral social media posts. The British broadcaster said it is using AI technology in a “highly sensitive documentary” to represent the voice of a person who is nearing the end of their life....

    Stephen Hawking grew to like his voice synthesizer. At one point, Intel, who made the device, offered to upgrade it to a more natural voice and he declined, as he identified it (as did the public) as “his voice”.

    if the listing advertised "high-speed internet" or anything with the wording "high-speed", then i'd call AirBNB and complain until i either got a partial refund or a rebooking elsewhere. Rate 1-star and post as many complaints as possible on as many social media outlets as possible with the full name of the AirBnB host. Name and Shame.

    Basically, be as big a nightmare as possible (without getting kicked out) until either it gets fixed or until you get enough money back to make you feel better.

    https://i.gifer.com/fzjD.gif

    edit:

    The owners live upstairs.

    i wouldn't let them sleep a wink until that's 50Mb/s+ both up and down. should be at least 100Mb/s, but 50Mb/s is manageable.

    They're fucking you while on vacation, and i would make their live a LIVING HELL. being cheap has consequences...

    gregorum ,
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    i don't see how that changes anything. in fact, i might be more outraged, as they're taking advantage of your poor, sweet, elderly mother, which is exactly how you should put it in every single complaint call, email, and social media post.

    gregorum ,
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    That makes sense.

    gregorum ,
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    your mom when she rolled off me

    if i pay for a service, such as an AirBnB, it had better be in suitable condition before i come to stay. if it's unacceptable, someone needs to be taught a lesson: Don't try to take advantage of people, or you will regret it.

    it's the only way these assholes ever learn anything: fuck with their money.

    gregorum ,
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar
    gregorum ,
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    a person is entitled to what they paid for. they are also entitled to complain when they get ripped off.

    but, sure, you can just roll over and get taken advantage of. sounds very "adult".

    enjoy that.

    gregorum , (edited )
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    to me, that makes it even more egregious. i'd send them a bill for your data plan, and i'd also browbeat them for putting someone critically ill, who is visiting the mayo clinic, until they got the issue fixed immediately.

    some people think they can take advantage of people like you and your mother, and i'd make sure they never did that again, not to anyone, ever.

    i'd get on the phone with AirBnB and be such a unimaginable nightmare, that they'd do anything just to shut me up.

    i've been extremely successful at this.

    edit: i once had a similar issue at a crappy hotel with bad internet service. i called their corporate office and threatened a federal lawsuit and had a lawyer buddy of mine throw some legalese at them (an obvious bluff). had them shook. 5 minutes later, the "we can't do anything" magically turned into "oh, we fixed the problem" and my internet speed was magically fixed.

    sometimes, you just havae to out-asshole the asshoels to get what you paid for.

    gregorum ,
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    there is nothing childish nor petty about demanding to get what one paid for. and complaining to AirBnB about it while also posting one's dissatisfaction publicly isn't going to get anyone banned.

    I didn't advise doing anything illegal nor did i advise harassing anyone.

    gregorum ,
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    well, that's why i mentioned the listing, and whether it advertised "high-speed" internet. if it didn't, this whole thing might be moot.

    gregorum ,
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    You imagine me as unhappy because it services your position to do so.

    I get what I pay for. I’m quite happy. If you can’t find it possible to believe me, that’s your own problem.

    gregorum ,

    i hadn't had a netflix sub in years, so when a buddy offered to add me to his sub, i pulled it up to see what was new.

    a sea of garbage, littered with all the shows i liked many years ago being offered as "For You." Yeah, I know they're great shows. I watched them a bunch of times 5-15 years ago. And nothing since, other than, maybe, a season here and there of those shows I hadn't seen.

    Nothing made in the last several years even interested me enough to look at the trailer. It's just 100% garbage, bespeckled with the long-ended (or cancelled) series that once made Netflix geat.

    Like a Circuit City, right before they all closed down.

    It does not say you should be intolerant of the intolerant while they’re minding their own business

    it is a fallacy that the intolerant mind their own business. being intolerant is, itself, an active state, not a passive one, and one to be actively resisted. being intolerant involves choice, a choice to be intolerant. there is no "minding one's own business" in being intolerant, as being intolerant necessarily involves minding the business of others and then making the choice to react to it.

    so your argument is, itself, spurious for it is fallacious in its foundation.

    People are born into environments they have no control over

    Nobody is born a Nazi. That is a choice someone makes. And it’s a choice that has consequences.

    If a person is sitting peacefully

    Being a Nazi isn’t “peaceful.” There is no “peaceful” state of being a Nazi. Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain of the United Kingdom taught the world that 1936 when he tried to leave Nazi Germany sitting peacefully alone.

    The difference between us is, I want Nazis to renounce their Nazi-ism. You don’t.

    you've made another mistake: assuming you can read my mind. you can't, of course. and, in making that assumption, not only were you wrong, you came to the wrong conclusion-- it'd be thrilled if Nazis renounced their beliefs.

    However, in the meantime, neither they nor their beliefs should be tolerated, and you haven't made any argument that compels me to believe otherwise.

    and attacking me personally rather than my argument is a pretty weak ad hominem fallacy, as i've demonstrated. so is using the straw man argument about "changing their beliefs" rather than what we were discussing: tolerating them.

    I don’t believe you’ll always be this way. I believe you can change

    i suggest you stick with the facts rather than beliefs and logical fallacies. they make for a better argument.

    US sues Apple for illegal monopoly over smartphones (www.theverge.com)

    The US Department of Justice and 16 state and district attorneys general accused Apple of operating an illegal monopoly in the smartphone market in a new antitrust lawsuit. The DOJ and states are accusing Apple of driving up prices for consumers and developers at the expense of making users more reliant on its iPhones.

    This SCOTUS will clearly do whatever they want. And if all your argument consists of is ad hominem attacks, this conversation is over.

    gregorum ,
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    Insulting me personally rather than attacking my argument is an ad hominem:

    Ad hominem (Latin for 'to the person'), short for argumentum ad hominem, refers to several types of arguments which are fallacious. Typically this term refers to a rhetorical strategy where the speaker attacks the character, motive, or some other attribute of the person making an argument rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself. This avoids genuine debate by creating a personal attack as a diversion often using a totally irrelevant, but often highly charged attribute of the opponent's character or background. The most common form of this fallacy is "A" makes a claim of "fact," to which "B" asserts that "A" has a personal trait, quality or physical attribute that is repugnant thereby going entirely off-topic, and hence "B" concludes that "A" has their "fact" wrong - without ever addressing the point of the debate. Many contemporary politicians routinely use ad hominem attacks, which can be encapsulated to a derogatory nickname for a political opponent.

    You don’t just say that I was wrong. You used a personal insult, and you even admit that you could have chose too not use an insult but chose to anyway, repeatedly. And, still, rather than use any evidence to make your argument, you can’t stop yourself from continuing to insult and bully.

    And YOU don’t get to choose what is insulting to ME. That’s some serious gaslighting DARVO shit.

    So, you are so deluded as to think that saying it 4 times in that little tantrum “isn’t saying it”?

    I must’ve really upset you, which is ironic, because I was nowhere nearly as offended as you seem to be now. Which actually makes me feel much better. Lol.

    gregorum ,
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    This is just DARVO, right out of the Narcissist abuser’s handbook

    • Step 1. Deny. The process begins with adamant refusal to accept any responsibility or acknowledge having a role or any involvement in the harmful behavior or actions. The truthful account of the events is stridently rejected and minimized. Denial seeks to deflect blame. Consequently, it also implies that it is in fact the perpetrator who is being subjects to an injustice by being wrongly accused of something they did not do. Denial distorts or disregards the reality of a situation.
    • Step 2. Attack. The second stage of DARVO involves character assassination with the aim of redirecting blame onto the person who confronted the perpetrator, scapegoating the innocent party and burdening them with accountability for the crimes of the aggressor. By shifting blame away from themselves, manipulators preserve their self-image, reputation, and/or position of power. It shields them from criticism and negative judgment. DARVO attacks often involve victim-blaming, distorting facts, minimizing the impact of their own actions, and exaggerating the faults of whoever confronts the perpetrator. The attack is essentially a smear campaign.
    • **Step 3. Reverse Victim and Offender. **Once the character assassination has formed a critical mass of bystanders who are successfully deceived by the manipulator’s false narrative, the victim-survivors is subjects to the painful process of scapegoating. Thus the final stages of DARVO sees the victim cast as a villain, while the perpetrator is exonerated. The reversal of victim and offender relies on pre-existing biases, stereotypes, or prejudices. It is often used to animate bystanders into persecuting and punishing the victim-survivor.

    Wow, you must really be upset to be putting in so much effort and time. Lol, looks like I got the better of you.

    I bet I can keep you going all day. But, hey, if I’m wrong, you can just stop… riiight?

    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    Ooo, more insults, and now threats? Cheers to your lack of self-control. Go on and keep telling me how upset I’ve made you. I’m enjoying this. Especially how you can’t stop.

    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    Heh, paranoia now, too? Just because someone else agrees that you’re breaking the rules ≠ conspiracy. And, apparently I’m the only one with access to AI art generators? But I do think it’s fun that you’re this upset. Paranoia, insults, threats, and now stalking? A bit hypocritical of you, lol. And right in line with DARVO

    https://lemm.ee/pictrs/image/09a422a7-04c6-4ff2-8c91-0fbf56368da5.webp

    Go on, tell me more about how upset you are. This is fun.

    gregorum ,
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    See, you’re describing how they said a personal insult, then you’re describing how they could have, instead, simply described what I said factually, without using an insult, and then you’re calling these two very different things the same while treating me like an idiot, expecting me to not notice the difference. Which is also insulting.

    It doesn’t matter how many times people try to explain that a very obvious personal insult isn’t one because it very clearly is. and repeating the insult only digs you deeper into that hole, as does repeatedly attempting to gaslight me.

    gregorum , (edited )
    @gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

    Wow. You sure are paranoid, all the way to the point of constructing this elaborate fantasy to justify it. And complete with a narrative of exactly what you would do.

    But in not you. If I were, I’d wonder how you got access to the reports that only a mod should see, and you’re not a mod or an instant admin. Curious.

    Look how upset and out of control you are, still blaming me for what you did, deflecting and deflecting. Keep telling me how upset you are. This is so much fun.

    Don’t forget your prayers!

    https://lemm.ee/pictrs/image/907efa22-ab5f-4626-82ca-7316ec1f91fd.webp

    Edit: while I’m sure you’re furiously typing up the next iteration of your ranting reply once again blaming me for why you are a bully who can’t control yourself and the paranoid delusion you’ve invented to justify it, I’m going to exhibit, the self-control of blocking you, because clearly this is just a enabling that delusion to fester and grow.

    Good luck to you!
