Here's one scenario.

  1. Facebook feeds its users content according to an algorithm.

  2. Facebook and lemmy users can interact with the same user content (liking, commenting).

  3. There are vastly more Facebook users than lemmy users.

  4. By dint of Facebook's greater number of users, lemmy users will see the most popular content that is fed algorithmically to Facebook users.

Conclusion: lemmy users are being fed content by the Facebook algorithm (in this still, thankfully hypothetical, scenario).

Like imagine Facebook promotes some viral post and it gets a thousands of upvotes. Any lemmy user on a federated instance, sorting by upvotes/hot/etc, is going to see that post.

That's the kind of top-down reach that is so alien to the fedi

I've used all these distros and I've never contributed shit lol. Love that shirt though... Is the v supposed to be like the vim logo? Or maybe upside down arch.

That just sounds like a magic 8 ball with some statistics sprinkled over

Mint is such a pragmatic distro. Honestly I admire people who are just happy with their Mint and don't feel the need to distro hop to ever more esoteric package ecosystems just to feel alive

Redditors Vent and Complain When People Mock Their "AI Art" (futurism.com)

Setting aside the usual arguments on the anti- and pro-AI art debate and the nature of creativity itself, perhaps the negative reaction that the Redditor encountered is part of a sea change in opinion among many people that think corporate AI platforms are exploitive and extractive in nature because their datasets rely on...

Yeah I'm pretty against AI art as a replacement for human art, and for it's job destroying potential, but I have friends who play around with local models, and their setup reminds me visual programming, where you move blocks of logic around.

Are you in this picture, comrade?

I'm good with whatever I have and I couldn't even tell you what brand they are but everything sounds great

On top of this I'd offer that it's advisable to avoid nurturing such highly tuned tastes if you can avoid it. At least if you're a perfectionist - you'll just make yourself unsatisfied and start gate keeping over meaningless distinctions.

I recommend getting into live bagpipe music. Take that hearing fidelity down a notch or two

I don't see why you need to bring everyone over with you. Even just a hundred is more than enough for a community

I mean do love playing out the fantasy of being a goodie two-shoes and being lauded over and rewarded for it, but your criticism is valid

Also they love just hanging out in the locker room for some reason

Exactly, it's a good thing that a food bank can prevent someone from going truly destitute in order to feed themselves. It prevents the emergency.

Well maybe not always prevents, but it helps ensure you don't fall below the floor of standards
