Well maybe if you use proxmox and on top of that kubernetes and then home assistant in that? Overcomplicating for sure.

kylian0087 ,

Ports below 1000 or something are reserved for root by default.

kylian0087 ,

Shouldn't be necessary. What you can try is run it with sudo just to see if it works then.

Anyone has recommendations on where to find information on who to vote for for the European parliament elections?

Mirror all data on NAS A to NAS B

I'm duplicating my server hardware and moving the second set off site. I want to keep the data live since the whole system will be load balanced with my on site system. I've contemplated tools like syncthing to make a 1 to 1 copy of the data to NAS B but i know there has to be a better way. What have you used successfully?

kylian0087 ,

I suggest to use sftp/ssh with rsync instead. Much more secure then FTP.

kylian0087 ,

Have you seen the caps on some milk packs? Those are just evil.

kylian0087 ,

You have been free for a while then i suppose.

Is there a way to download a Windows.iso anonymously?

Hello, whenever I try to download the Windows.iso from Microsoft, it blocks me because I'm using a VPN. I don't really want to buy proxies or anything for this. I tried to download it off public WiFi but it was way too slow. I only need Windows for updating the EC firmware on one of my older laptops....

kylian0087 ,

Not sure if it is still possible. But I believe you can on Tor if you spoof your user agent to be a black berry or some other device. Then you can grab the direct download link to the iso and download it over Tor. Been some time since I have done this though. Keep in mind this is from memory so it might be slightly different.

kylian0087 ,

No idea. but I remember the direct download link for the iso to became available due to it.

kylian0087 ,

Yeah i did this until they make the entire homepage blank if you keep history off. Very annoying.

kylian0087 ,

A duress password to remove selected profiles would be amazing. So it still unlocks but quietly removes the profiles you are worried about.

kylian0087 ,

If you do go digging you would get caught. Safest way is removal in those situations. I rather have some data removed which preferably I have backups up. Then have to risk jail time in some country.

what will be my next server operating system (Fedora Server, Fedora CoreOS, NixOS), your experience and opinion

I want to reset my server soon and I'm toying with the idea of using a different operating system. I am currently using Ubuntu Server LTS. However, I have been toying with the idea of using Fedora Server (I use Fedora on my laptop and made good experiences with it) or even Fedora CoreOS. I also recently installed NixOS on my...

kylian0087 ,

If you mainly use containers perhaps OpenSUSE Micro OS is of interest to you. Other then that pretty much any distro will do. I use rocky Linux my self for a few different things.

If you want to try out many different distros virtualization is also a option. KVM or something like XCP-NG with XO or proxmox are great options.

kylian0087 ,

Yeah it is more of a debugging tool then anything.

Each of the rooms has their own dashboard you can access by dubble clicking it, the energy Dashboard's is still a wip.

kylian0087 ,

Ohh I see the typo. Yeah I am a bit dyslectic and read over these things.

kylian0087 ,

No worry's. Good catch though. I have just updated it to "Temperatuur" :)

not happening this soon. as Apple is complying by malicious compliance. alternative app stores are bound to some idiotic rules.

kylian0087 ,

Take a look at K3S if you plan to use kubernetes on a single node.

kylian0087 ,

a small PC with kodi can do this. It can do much more as well.

kylian0087 ,

it depends which device you get. Some routers are much better then others at routing. i think you want to look at the CCR series.

kylian0087 ,

On one hand I love unify on the other I wish i never went this route. They do make it very simple to manage a whole suite of devices. But updates sometimes feel "Alpha/beta" some more advanced stuff requires editing jsons in the devices them self. Also recently the battery in my cloud key gen 2 has blown and their is no way to replace it without replacing the whole cloudkey. Thing lasted like 2 years. which is ridiculous. Personally I have started to look in to Mikrotik which is a load more advanced and has a higher learning curve. but if I am forced to edit jsons and use scripts to do some more advanced things i might as well.

Sorry for the slight rant... just be aware what you can get your self in to.

kylian0087 ,

Amazing! Thanks for all your hardware Anthony!
