Use the adapter plug as mentioned.

Type C can't spin 360°. I have a 90-degree 3.5mm jack, which doesn't create a risk of breaking the port, so I can put my phone in my pocket in any position.

Hurts waterproofing, phone slimness and design

Check out the Sony Xperia 10. It's the smallest phone on the market with a 3.5mm jack, micro SD slot, 5000 mAh battery, and IP68 rating.

Nothing was taken away. It's literally just combined with another port now.

Haha, remember 2000s, when most phones were using proprietary connector for both charging and headphones output? Everyone hated that stuff.

michael_palmer ,

PostmarketOS devs have made huge improvements over the past year. Now it can be used for daily driving. Some functions do not work simply due to the lack of drivers.

michael_palmer ,

I mean that phones had combo port both for charging and headphones. Using adapters was annoying. And if you saying that 3.5mm is obsolete than why newest Macbooks have 3.5mm port?

A product you were just talking about pops up in an online ad. How? Advertising algorithms are so good that they may know what you want even before you do. C...

I always say into the microphone of my smartphone, "I know you're listening to me." If they are really listening to me, they will get scared. And if not, no one will know about it.

Gitlab is crazy. They require my phone number and credit card details just to create an account.

michael_palmer ,

Maybe debit card would also work, but why they need this info at all? I wanted to create new issue for app, but Gitlab required card details. I had to write to the developer in Matrix.

michael_palmer ,

I can't live without dash-to-dock extension.

Traffic data? If a grandmother had a penis, she would be a grandfather To implement this function, Osmand should gather location data from every user.

Freetube supports maximum 1080p, you should specify it.

The alternative to Traccar is Find My Device (FMD)

michael_palmer ,

1-2% with always on VPN. My kernel is very old (3.18) and it doesn't have wireguard kernel module.

michael_palmer ,

It's optional

michael_palmer ,

By default defender is active on AtlasOS. You can disable it manually with bat script

michael_palmer ,

Tried photopea on my phone. It's laggy. I use cracked version of "Photo Editor" for making memes.

What's wrong with GIMP? I used photoshop before, but GIMP pretty comfortable for me.

michael_palmer ,

New versions of Android have made turning off mobile data more inconvenient. Now, you need to tap twice instead of just once in previous versions.

michael_palmer ,

Android phones don't share VPN connections through the hotspot

michael_palmer ,

TTL is a part of TCP/IP.

michael_palmer ,

There is an app that can change TTL value through iptables. It requires root.

I dismantled several cheap inkjet printers for parts. There are countless useful parts inside for my future DIY projects. 24-volt power supplies, several motors, pulleys, belts, hundreds of small bolts.

michael_palmer ,

Usually VGA connector has slots for a screwdriver.

michael_palmer ,

I use alpine linux with musl and openrc. It's an old laptop, so I use it only for torrenting and watching movies. Basic stuff work just fine. The only thing that doesn't is Nvidia proprietary driver.

michael_palmer ,

So stupid idea. What if some 220V cable from a third-party manufacturer does fit?

michael_palmer ,

I use Soocas ET2. Maybe it's not the best trimmer, but at least it's super convinient and nice looking. I bought it for 30 €.

I have about ten of these cables, and they are interchangeable.

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone (lemmy.world)

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

michael_palmer ,

Google-free phones? What are they? I know only Pinephone and Librem 5.

michael_palmer ,

Huawei doesn't even provide possibility to unlock bootloader, so it's big NO. Currently I'm using Lineage OS on my primary phone and Linux on secondary phone. But the main problem is big amount of proprietary staff like modems, that can even work bypassing SOC and OS. I found only one phone with truly open-source hardware. It's Liberty phone from Purism. It costs 2000$ and has perfomance comparable to 50$ Android phone.

michael_palmer ,

I thought about it too, but I want to make a tablet based on RPI 5. I have a 3D printer, so I hope to be able to make an adequately sized case.

michael_palmer ,

Guys, have you ever been screwed by chinese seller on Aliexpress? Or missleaded by chinese ad? Lie and cheating is a part of chinese culture. So I think, that China is really a security threat.

michael_palmer ,

Tiktok was caught spying on American journalists. Where is the racism here?

michael_palmer ,

That's because Aliexpress refund system works good. But some time ago, several chinese seller tried to fool me in direct messaging saying "close the appelation and I'll return money to your PayPal". Also I had bad expirience with chinese software. It's always proprietary, contain bugs and rarely get fixes.

Nothing prevents you from using your Smart TV in the same way as a dumb TV. Just don't connect your TV to the internet and use a third-party device via HDMI.

michael_palmer ,

Yesterday I was in an electronics store and saw a 65" 8K TV and a 65" 4K TV. The difference in image clarity is almost imperceptible even if you get up close. Maybe 8K will be useful for huge TVs like 85" or more.

michael_palmer ,

What is the problem?

michael_palmer ,

If TV can't remember last used HDMI port that TV is a shit.

michael_palmer ,

That's crazy. I always recommend people to use self hosted Wireguard VPN. Installation is basically one command from github (autoinstaller script). Or use Mullvad VPN, it seems to be privacy-friendly.

michael_palmer ,

It's not as complicated as it sounds. Mostly, it's just a matter of following the instructions.

michael_palmer ,

Firstly get access to ssh console of your server. Then use this script to install wireguard. Then use this command to install pi-hole. These scripts definitely work on Debian and Ubuntu, I haven't tested other systems.
