Oh this is fantastic. It's definitely something that's been missing and been a conundrum in regards to figuring out how to sort it. Glad to see the PixelFed developer figured out how to do it.

The Immich logo is a massive improvement.

sabreW4K3 ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Out of curiosity, why isn't this stuff done by default?

sabreW4K3 ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Your frustration is palpable and that's disappointing. Lemmy has improved a lot since we all arrived while the software experience is a lot smoother, admins have been clamouring for moderation tools the whole time. Ultimately there needs to be more contribution to do everything that everyone wants, but moderation needs to be a higher priority for sure.

I will say this though. I know you dislike developers discussing, disagreeing or even arguing, but I actually think it's nice to see things in the open.

Whether you find happiness here or elsewhere in the fediverse, I wish you the best of success and not just because you host one of my communities 😂

sabreW4K3 ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

I like it here too.

Undermine of course. Capitalism does what capitalism does.

This is a weird one. On the one hand, we have Mozilla, the last remaining browser company not sucking at the teat of either Google or Apple and we all expect for Mozilla to somehow generate enough money to pay enough employees to stay competitive on the other hand we have the users who expect them not to do anything to try and leverage their userbase to create financial independence.

The problem with Mozilla remains the same problem that they've had for a while. Mozilla doesn't acknowledge the symbiotic relationship it has with its community and the community always over reacts, which means there's a chasm where simple things should be easy but they're not.

Take this for example, Mozilla only had to have a public facing discussion about this and then go and do it anyway.

Sometimes paying lip service works. But since they didn't, you have people like OP who feel like something nefarious is happening and in the end Firefox users lose out as things like donations being pulled hurt.

Mozilla already shows ads, as do all the other browsers, however unlike the other browsers, you have a fully functioning uBlock that can and will remove anything that the preferences don't cover.

My post covers all of your points.

Yep, create an automation and have the schedule (time/date) as the trigger

Tumblr and Wordpress to Sell Users’ Data to Train AI Tools (www.404media.co)

this could not be timed worse for Tumblr which is in huge hot water with its userbase already for its CEO breaking his sabbatical to ban a prominent trans user for allegedly threatening him (in a cartoonish manner), and then spending a week personally justifying it increasingly wildly across several platforms. the rumors had...

Fuxake! Now I've gotta move my blog?

sabreW4K3 ,

No one actually believes that Tumblr will implement AP

sabreW4K3 ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Good read. BlueSky basically gives people the feeling that they're in control, but actually is in control of everything. It's like a house with no electricity.

sabreW4K3 ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Everything on the left (except Tux) is terrible today and that's fine, things evolve. It would be fun to see modern versions of each of those logos though.

I was so in love with Pidgin for a while that I even made a mock-up for how to improve it. I think I still have blog posts up about it.

sabreW4K3 ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Them turning it up would be good. Also shouldn't there be a duplicate post check built into the platform?

Self Hosted IFTTT RSS Replacement

A couple of years ago, IFTTT did a thing where they asked people to sign up to premium and they could pay whatever they like and could keep the service forever. I didn't use many of the services, but thought it made sense to try and preserve something so useful for in case I did need it. In the meantime, I would allow it to...

sabreW4K3 OP ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

That's why I'm looking into a replacement. My subscription was mostly about me supporting and since they're unappreciative, I'll look elsewhere.

sabreW4K3 OP ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

It's not the articles I care about. Though that would be nice, it's the notifications. Does Fresh have that?

sabreW4K3 OP ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Should I be worried that there's been no commits in the past three months?

sabreW4K3 OP ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Reminds me of Node Red. Feels like it's probably a lot more complicated than what I'm looking for though, which is basically just phone notifications of certain RSS feeds

sabreW4K3 OP ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

I tried to look this up in a search engine and got nothing back, what is this?

sabreW4K3 OP ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

So, I tried to install this on my Raspberry Pi, only to find out it doesn't have ARM64 support, which is kind of alarming. It's a shame, but indicative of the lack of commits. I hope the project can find a new lease of life, but for now Huginn isn't a viable option for me at least.

sabreW4K3 OP ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Just wanted to say thanks, I ended up going with n8n.

You should add a community for it over on one of your instances.

sabreW4K3 ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

I don't understand. Why are they so specific in the Docker Compose? Why not just have a Docker that pulls the latest of each package without requiring the user to copy long strings?

sabreW4K3 ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Sorry, I think I'm asking my question poorly, what I mean is instead of

image: tensorchord/pgvecto-rs:pg14-v0.2.0@sha256:90724186f0a3517cf6914295b5ab410db9ce23190a2d9d0b9dd6463e3fa298f0

Which clearly requires user interaction, why not take that out of users' hands and just have

image: tensorchord/pgvecto-rs:latest-stable

Which is effectively what they're using anyway? I can understand freezing on a version when the upstream removes a feature, but that's not happened and even so, why do they need the SHA verification? Sorry if it seems stupid and straight forward, this is the only container I host that does this and so I'm trying to understand it rather than just feel aggrieved by it.

I don't get it! But I also elaborated here: https://lemmy.tf/comment/5043780

Advice On Proposed Router Design

So I'm trying to build a router. Just need something to handle the networking in my house and the plan is to separate things out via virtual local area networks. sabreW4K3 OP ,

This post is tremendous, thank you.

I originally planned to go for an all in one, but then started finding cool stuff and it made sense to make it so I could swap out bits of the set-up without having to replace the whole thing.

OPNSense versus OpenWRT. I got lead astray! 😂 but seriously, everyone says that eventually everyone ends up running OPNSense anyway.

Regarding the Banana Pi, I was looking at them for ages and someone said to go for the NanoPi over it as the support on the software NanoPi is better.

Regarding the rest of you post, I'm still trying to digest it. Clicking links and reading stuff, but I wanted to thank you. Truly!

sabreW4K3 OP ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Just my RPi, hence the looking for another SBC to do the routing.

@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Bloody hell, thank you!

sabreW4K3 OP ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

I was reading the comments on the OpenWRT forums about the new router, even the people there feel it's underpowered.

If it can run OpenWRT and PiHole, I'll be happy.

I thought I thanked you for this at the time, but it seems I didn't. Sorry about that. This post has been invaluable to me and has coloured how I've been aiming to build out my network. Thank you so much!

This is my first time learning about Sunshine/Moonlight. How does it work? Does it run via an emulator? Is there an official way to get games?

sabreW4K3 ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

That's really cool.

Is it possible to have a Subsonic server that falls back to the YT Music API when a song isn't downloaded?

The major thing keeping me from self-hosting my music is that I mostly discover music by using the radio function in ViMusic (Uses the YT Music API to stream music) or by finding a song through friends, social media, etc. and then listening to it in ViMusic to see whether it's good and I want to add it to my playlist....

sabreW4K3 ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

I haven't tried, but you might be able to add a YouTube server in Symfonium

sabreW4K3 ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

Let's be honest though, "don't set a wallpaper, in case they track you" is extreme. It's the privacy equivalent of the £1000 Ethernet Cables.

sabreW4K3 OP ,
@sabreW4K3@lemmy.tf avatar

This is my plan. I'm gonna get a NanoPi to do the routing.
