A typical wall outlet can only draw 1800w (1.8kw) no way is it drawing 40kwh (kw/h is a nonsense unit in this context). If it's drawing 40wh ghats actually quite low, a typical monitor is closer to 80-100w while powered on.

Where I live electricity is about 10c/kwh (cheap I know) so a 100w monitor is costing me about a cent an hour. More than worth it imo but you make your own decisions.

I know people hate on rgb lights but I really like mine. I have them set to red light at sundown, which is great when you want to get up for a glass of water/midnight snack/bathroom break without ruining your night vision and waking yourself up. It made a really big improvement to my sleep.

saigot ,

Yeah you have to be careful what you get, a lot of the cheaper ones are way way dimmer in colour mode than white mode.

saigot ,

Just out of curiosity, how does that work for foreigners, they would only be able to tell the income of citizens would they not?

saigot ,

If all your code isn't on one line you aren't a real programmer.

saigot ,

But abortion affects literally everyone.

saigot ,

Outside of incel memes when is the Chad ever the good guy?

saigot ,

Nah you still have to deal with all the increased crime.

Idk this seems pretty good for like a reception or something.

It's not just colour it's colour within what the algorithm already thinks is nice. If you only watch 4hour fish tank videos you'll only get 4 hour fish tank videos, just with purple fish. It's not like you have to just play this live either. Just generate the videos and add each non offensive one to a Playlist to run at the office. Sure it's not like a killer feature, I also doubt it took much effort at all to create.

Yeah but from the perspective of a government paying for your citizens education reduces crime, increases revenue and helps your country stay on top from a technology point of view. It's a pretty safe investment that pays for itself. I graduated 5 years ago, university and college isnt free where i am but is subsidized (and also access to low interest gov't loans) I have already paid in taxes more than my education cost the government. If I work for another 20yrs that's easily a 4x on the initial investment.

So the creator of ublock found he had taken on more than he could handle and transferred ownership of ublock to someone else. That project stopped getting updated and was eventually acquired by Adblockplus which is a for profit company that lets advertisers pay to be whitelisted.

Ublock origin is from the original creator of ublock and was original intended as his personal version of the extension free of the responsibilities he agreed to with ublock.

I mean thats happening too. There's an animated series about the avatar after Korea coming in 2025. There's also an animated movie following the aang as an adult coming out around the same time

Xkcd's thing explainer is what I have.

Plausibily, they could be trying to dictate the minimum standard for budget laptops, win11 doesn't really need a TPM, it's in the minimum spec so that every laptop is forced to have one.

saigot ,

That fee looks like it's mainly covering water/sewage which isn't the worst for a shared septic system.

saigot ,

They are reusable, they use replaceable argon cannisters, those cannisters cost 130bucks a pop though.

saigot ,

Yeah so if your job involves a lot of social energy you might not have enough energy to make a bunch of phone calls. Like it's a little hyperbolic, but if I have to do a lot of talking to contractors I'm taking a full half day because after that I am going to want to sleep.

This is a false dichotomy, the way you shutdown O&G is through political action, making personal choices to limit your personal carbon output is a political action. It directly hurts O&G and directly helps the alternatives.

Making a personal choice helps drive political will which changes how people make personal decisions which drives political will. Arguing about which step to bootstrap the process seems pointless. If it's easier for you to show up at Tuesday at 11am to city council meetings and yell for more bus routes do that. If it's easier to increase your commute 20minutes and drive up ridership to give ammo to the council people, do that. If it's easier to drop a big sum of money to lobby the government do that. Just do whatever you can that helps.

We are all drops of rain in an ocean, but without the rain the ocean would run dry.

saigot ,

Not driving in the majority of the US is flatout not viable for work and groceries

Yeah but if you and 10 friends inconvenience yourselves and do it otherwise, or inconvenience yourself by showing up at 11am on a tuesday to city council meetings you can make the bus a little better, and then it makes sense for a couple more people who were on the fence, which drives more improvements. I don't really care whether you start with the council meeting or the bus ride, we need both really, one enables the other.

This is all just a false dichotomy, it's all the same shit. Phrasing it differently and fighting over it is just distracting.

saigot ,

Your personal action affects only your own carbon footprint

That's not true. If I take the bus, I increase ridership and resources for buses, which in aggregate can lead to improvements to the bus route, which can convince others to ride. the people at your local city government can have a much easier time justifying an increase to public transit spending if they can show high or increasing transit ridership. Depending on your individual circumstances one may provide better impact to effort than another but taking a bus is as much political action as voting.

Others have given technical ways fb can eee, but I'm more concerned about rapid uncontrolled growth and corporate political sanitization.

Say you have a community dedicated to pointing out corporate greed. Your community federates with threads and wow it's really taken off suddenly you have gone from hundreds of up votes to tens of thousands of them. Wow this is great, but huh, why has my post about Facebook only got 3 up votes. Huh why does the word communism spawn a 200 comment chain of alt righters yelling. Why is there an obviously sponsored post at the top. Why is everyone saying "unalived" and using 🍉 instead of 🇵🇸.

saigot ,

You don't need two apps even if your instance defederates

Blasphemous 2 came out August of this year, so it couldn't have a review from April 16.

saigot ,

from googling the exact phrase in the review, it seems the game is Ultra Fight Da Kyanta 2

saigot ,

The modern version of this trick is bunny the dog, that dog that "talks" by pushing buttons.
